We’re still waiting – hoping? – for word of Sony’s seemingly non-existent annual livestream, but looks like the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase will come first. Scheduled for 9th September, 2022 at 1PM PDT, the broadcast promises “all-new announcements” as well as “new reveals from titles including Disney Dreamlight Valley, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and a sneak peek at the upcoming Marvel ensemble game from Skydance New Media”. That latter game’s from Uncharted’s Amy Hennig.
There’s no mention of Sony games Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Marvel’s Wolverine, although we wouldn’t rule them out entirely from this. We suspect it’s possible the heavily rumoured Black Panther title from EA could be announced during the event, although we’d expect it to be light on information given the project is seemingly still quite early in development. Nevertheless, this looks like it’ll be a worthwhile watch.
The show will be part of the D23 Expo, and while it’ll be available to watch in its entirety online, those in attendance at the sold-out convention will be able to enjoy it live on the Premiere Stage, “with a presentation following the livestream featuring developer interviews, special guests, and exclusive giveaways”. It sounds like one to keep an eye on, then – will you be tuning in?

Pure & split/second remakes🤞🏻
@Would_you_kindly Good luck with those.
@Would_you_kindly Split/Second is one of those properties whose IP is probably lost to time (and/or not worth investing in), but whose mechanics would shine in any number of properties.
I desperately want the next Hot Wheels Unleashed, as good as it is, to include the track destruction/altering mechanics of S/S. It'd make soooo much sense to include it in a series whose whole idea is it's a toy being played in the real world
Well that’s unexpected. Somehow didn’t know there was an ensemble game coming from Skydance either. Wonder if it’s X-Men seeing as we already have Avengers.
I expect no Playstation showcase this year. As for this one, the only Disney IP I have any interest in is Indiana Jones and that's 95% likely to NOT come to Playstation.
Time to get hyped for a couple 15 second long CGI teasers!
@Uncharted2007 I hope we get something. I mean with how many studios they own, we know very little.
I'll be surprised and a bit disappointed if Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine turn up. Sony you'd imagine will want them on their own showcase.
@Americansamurai1 I'd love to get Indiana Jones on PS5. I just don't expect anything because otherwise Bethesda would have been counted as useless a purchase as Bungie was to Sony. If you're spending billions, you don't put your content on the other platform. It doesn't make sense.
@Uncharted2007 I think Indiana Jones might be multiplatform because of royalties. I mean if it's only on game pass they'll be missing out on alot of royalties from each until sold, but who knows. I was actually talking about how I hope Sony has an event.
Epic Mickey 3 would be bad ass!!
The biggest things I want to see from this event might not be there at all, but I guess based on past surprises, you never know. I really just want to see another update on something Kingdom Hearts related. Whether it’s an update on Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link or maybe a Steam port of the series on PC. I probably wouldn’t get my hopes up for an update on Kingdom Hearts IV, because that’s still in early development, but who knows? Aside from Kingdom Hearts, something related to a single player Star Wars game would be great. Maybe Star Wars: Jedi Survivor? Disney Speedstorm, the kart racer they’re working on, looks fun, so that would be fun to see too. Overall, I just long for even more Kingdom Hearts representation at events like these, but the time may not be right. We’ll see.
@Would_you_kindly Pure, Blur (not disney i know) and Split/Second are the holy trinity of arcade racers for me
What would they have to talk about that's Lego Skywalker related? There's no more DLC planned, right?
@charbtronic
If you check out Marvel’s website…

hahaha not gonna happen but imagine a Disney vs Marvel vs Capcom fighter.
DvMvC.
either way, I guess it'll just be more boring Star Wars carp (yeah I typed it on purpose).
This is really cool. Hope they make this an annual thing.
@charbtronic the ownership of the Spider-Man IP has been clarified some months back. Sony does indeed own the movie rights to Spider-Man, but Marvel actually does own the video game rights.
The reason Spider-Man is exclusive to PlayStation is because Sony funded the game. Marvel approached both Sony and Microsoft on whether they wanted to fund and make a good Spider-Man game (better than what the quality would be if Marvel funded it), Microsoft passed, but Sony took the offer, so they were allowed to make it exclusive because they paid to make the whole game.
I except Wolverine is a similar deal, Sony is funding the game so they get to make it exclusive.
Looking forward to it. I would really like a new X-men game but can't see that happening when there's Wolverine to come. Would also love to see a new Avengers, a proper made one, only there was some rumours of EA doing Iron Man so if that ends up being true then Avengers is unlikely. Wouldn't mind a Defenders game in that case. Wouldn't say no to a Thor or Hulk game
I hope if there's any Sony exclusive Marvel news at this showcase, it's only a release date for Miles Morales on PC. Would much rather see other news like Spider-Man 2 info in a Playstation Showcase.
I remember when Disney was more than Marvel and Star Wars... Sad, really...
Indian Jones will probably be multiplatform, Disney doesn't care about MS endeavors with GamePass, they care about their games making actual profits for them.
I can hope for Kingdom Hearts 5
4 but probably not
@DualWielding well it is likely to have disney characters in it so never say never
@uptownsoul Correct. It's stated to be the last Bethesda game that graced Playstation since the buyout due to the game already being made for the platform.
@uptownsoul I hope it's a good game with a good writer.
I be watching this with very low expectations on anything worthwhile.
I'll be going into this with tempered expectations, but still hoping for a few happy surprises/reveals or updates to existing games!
I think I'm the only person out there who really doesn't give a damn about anything superhero related, movies or games.
(Batman is different, since he doesn't have any actual superpowers so I like that character.)
