Marvel, fresh from dominating theatres, is expanding its output of video games – led, of course, by Sony’s own Spider-Man and Wolverine adaptations. With a new Iron Man announced earlier this week, as well other in-development projects like Amy Hennig’s Captain America and Black Panther, many are pondering whether these titles could crossover like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU as its better known.
But there are no plans to do that, according to Marvel Games bigwig Bill Rosemann: “The world is, amazingly, very familiar and accepting of the multiverse,” he told Games Industry.biz. “We have all these different realities. Now they’re all real, and we want to give everyone the freedom to tell their story. We don’t want to say ‘you can’t blow up the moon, because this game over here by another studio needs the moon’. We want to give everyone the freedom and the clear lane to tell their story.”
So, there you have it: there are no plans to connect all of these different projects – largely helmed by different publishers – together, which is probably for the best. Do you prefer the idea of these various games standing alone, or are you more attracted to the concept of crossover content?

But each Studio can connect their own marvel games?, so playstation can at some connect their wolverine and spiderman universes, added with venom?
Man now all sony need to do now that Disney now own deadpool again is get the deadpool license, imagine and deadpool and wolverine vs spiderman and venom game
I wouldn't expect them to, without all Marvel games falling under one company it would be very difficult to maintain. Besides as much as a Marvel fan I am, I wouldn't want a wholly interconnected universe for the games.
Fine by me. Different interpretations made by creatives with their own unique styles are why the comics have lasted so long, and why the MCU is starting to feel a bit stale.
Good because the crap Disney is pushing out is ruining Marvel. I'd rather not have Thor and Hulk act like dumb comedians. Get Hulk back to being a beast!
I’m fine with that idea BUT I do trust Insomniac if they created a Marvel universe with the Spideys & X-Men. Would be crazy fun tbh
Game is not a very good media for interconnected universes. Think of how hard it was to play the entire Kingdom Hearts series for years, because each game was in a different platform. If you play something that refers a separate game, you might wanna try said game, only to realize it's not available in your platform.
I always found the idea floated around of a MGU (marvel gaming universe) naive at best. Its just not realistic.
@UltimateOtaku91 "so playstation can at some connect their wolverine and spiderman universes, added with venom?"
They could, but that game was already made.
It makes sense, it ensures everyone can tell their own standalone stories without having to worry about other games messing up the story. I feel like some games will try to reference other ones, especially if they're made by the same studio. Wolverine referencing Spider-Man and if EA made another game, it would probably reference Iron Man.
There's no need for them all to share a universe. My main criticism of the MCU is that it's not standalone enough, everything has to be connected. Moon Knight is my favourite thing to come out of the MCU due to it being standalone and accessible for once.
I'm all for this. I want Wolverine to be bloody and brutalist, with scumbags and murderers, realistic drugs cartels, and arms dealers and sex traffickers, and all kinds of people deserving of having their faces sliced off, in a world possibly with mutants in their demise. And for Spider-Man to be more of the same tone of the other games with its silly gimmicky villains and nerdy stuff. Trying to merge those universes would degrade both. Sure Spidey can get serious at times, but it's not the same world they live in and they don't deal with the same kinds of bad people. And that's just fine.
Good. The MCU has become so bloated and convoluted with all the shows/movies its almost impossible to keep up with anymore. Glad the games will all be their own things
Thank **** for that.
I love this! I loved the Guardians game and of course the two insomniac Spidey titles. I can’t wait to see more from Wolverine. However, I really can’t be bothered with the other announced games and this alleviates any fear that I’ll miss out on storylines for not playing them.
Thank goodness, I don't need another convoluted 'shared universe' franchise.
Why does everything need to be connected just make a cool story and go with it. I already got sick and tired of Marvel a long time ago i didnt watch most of the movies. Man its a 10 year or something plan so interesting.
But insomniac can though. And they have two big ones. I hope they get the rest of the x-men and fantastic 4.
@riceNpea I kinda liked the smart Hulk comics. He wasn't the crappy comedian from the mcu and he used some insane tech to fight villains. Tech only a Hulk could carry around and wield which was pretty cool.
@Flaming_Kaiser but most haven't and that's what companies care about. Hence the success of the latest Spider-man. It became one of the most successful movies ever because of the multiverse.
Marvel movies are struggling to stay connected after the end game.
@riceNpea you missed the character development of the character huh
@KozPar from Hulk to simp? I wish I did
@riceNpea it's almost like movies can't do the extreme unending arcs comics does even if they are adapting the arc where he indeed does that exact thing 😳
@naruball All the companies are the same especially with big money they all will become the same.
@RedRiot193 @CWill97 @UltimateOtaku91 I would be shocked if they don't connect the Spider-Man game into their Wolverine project.
I can see it now, Spider-Man 2 having a post-credit scene that teases Wolverine....or maybe even introduces him into the main game as a rival or teammate.
