CD Projekt Red has formally announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a sequel, currently codenamed Project Orion. It'll be developed in-house, and it sounds like it's still many years away from actually releasing. We wouldn't expect anything less!
"Orion is a codename for our next Cyberpunk game, which will take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe," says the studio.
And, well, that's about it. What do you want from a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel? Give yourself some chrome in the comments section below.

Can't wait to preorder! Oh wait
Already????? CD Projekt Red calm down!
Now experience twice the bugs!
Seriously, I genuinely hope they have learnt how to pace development and release something that works.
People shouldn't pre order, but you know they will anyway. Sometimes we get what we deserve, lol!
Hopefully this time they make it next gen only, they dont crunch, and maybe just maybe dont release an unfinished product. Time will tell
I'll look forward to playing the finished version on my PS6.
I'm looking forward to it but... won't pre-order this time haha
I like Cyberpunk, I'm in.
ill wait 2yrs post release for it to be almost finished.... so ps6
Nice, they didn't learn from their past mistake where they shouldn't announce their games way to early
I mean the DLC for CP2077 hasn't even released yet and despite that they already announce the sequel
I guess with all the good will Cyberpunk 2077 has recently gotten they figured "What the heck? Why not?" I look forward to seeing it in 2077!
Can't wait to have to buy a PS7 so the NPC faces will actually load!
Stop. Announcing. Games. Like. This.
Genuinely happy about this. They'll probably also use unreal engine 5, so I expect development to be more streamlined as with their in house engine.
Not sure the point of sharing a codename. Is the main character gonna be a belt salesman or something?
As stated before, lessons were not learned. This is the equivalent of an NPC continuing to do a walk animation whilst hitting a tree. Just blissful ignorance.
No denying the original game had a lot of issues at launch, but in it's current state I find it one of the more enjoyable games of the last couple of years. So I'm looking forward to learning more.
I do say though that this sounds more like a spin-off than a direct sequel.
Removed - unconstructive
In it's current state Cyberpunk is fine.
Not 8 years of hype fine, but fine. It's a 7/10 game in my book. I beat it, now I'm done and I don't really need more.
I liked cyberpunk 2077 played it after it was properly patched
they will learn from the original release and wont make the same mistake again
Let's hope that CDPR learned its lesson this time.
It seems like things have turned around for Cyberpunk 2077; but seriously...do the next one right. And for crying out loud, if the vision is too much for PS5/Xbox, then don't try to shoehorn the game to fit.
Please focus on making the next Witcher game a success first. Maybe the toughest follow up game in history after the immeasurable success of TW3 and the immeasurable calamity of Cyberpunk, on top of moving away from your main protagonist to add even more pressure on the series and studio.
Excited but like with any future games from them i shell be more cautious.
@Titntin
They are busy bees 🐝
Have we not got Witcher 4 first?
I hope there will be a 3rd person option like they did in RE8. But with this one i will wait for months after the release this company will never ever get a preorder from me again.
What do I want from CP2077 sequel?
A Game that is fit for release would be a nice start!
Glad they are doing a sequel.
Only Platinumed Cyberpunk recently on the PS5 and I loved it. Glad we are getting more.
Lift the carpet and sweep the trash under it then start a new game... Hmm I can't say I didn't see this coming. I was a true fan of cdpr, I had faith even when my gut was telling me they had messed up a long time before release, I stuck with them for months, just hoping they would do their magic and turn it around, but you know what? The game sucks, its a crap, poorly written poorly designed and poorly executed pile of poo. Just sayin 😘
Why do people keep saying CDPR will learn from their mistakes and the issues with crunch or a buggy release won't happen again? Why do you think that?
I didn't get into the Witcher 3 until well after it was released as a bundle with all the DLC - but I'm old enough to remember it had some problems when it was first released. The good will they earned wasn't from releasing a great game that worked well on day 1, it was from continuing to fix and improve their game, and throwing their customers a few carrots (like haircuts) for free to help show they cared.
Then 2077 came out about a year or two early after being overhyped for a decade, give or take. Now, some of you are all ready to forgive and assume they learned their lesson. Why? What makes you think they learned it? I won't believe it until I see it, and you shouldn't, either. It's easy to say at the beginning of a development cycle that you'll avoid crunch - when it's a year after their estimated release and it's still not where they want it to be, THAT'S when they need to be committed to avoiding crunch or releasing a half-finished game. THAT'S when the pressure will be on - not now.
So much of Cyberpunk 2077's potential got left out by not having multiplayer hopefully this new title rectifies this.
@Shepherd_Tallon This is exactly how I feel. I am glad I played it, but it is a 7/10 even without taking bugs and such into account. Mediocre world and stories, especially when compared to the outstanding Witcher 3.
I could be tempted to pick up a Cyberpunk sequel, but the reviews and word of mouth would have to be pretty good.
Overpromissed and under delivered. Game works fine now but isn't what was advertised so any hype for any CDPR game is gone for me. If it's good and not broken I probably by it.
@Flaming_Kaiser they were initially making cp2077 1st and 3rd person but then dropped the 3rd for the added immersion that 1st would bring...that was my first warning that things were going badly and that was way before the first release date was announced lol.
This makes sense. First game suffered major criticism quite rightly but is now very popular so rather than spend time on a bad product, create a new product with its name to make up the bad first game and keep the user base.
I’m behind it and will preorder as I imagine it’ll be everything the first game should have been.
CDPR never learns - keep overhyping games that are over a decade away, that will need be unable to live to the hype. Seems they didn't learn anything from 2020.
@Matroska Xbox One x was fine at launch and since the next gen update so is PS5 so no PS7 needed.
CP77 and Ghost of Tsushima are the only open worlds that I have enjoyed since GTA San Andreas. So yeah sign me in.
YES!!!
The Cyberpunk RayTracing Overdrive Mode at the Nvidia RTX4090 presentation looked amazing.
Cant wait to see what they make this time. The world they created has so much potential.
I'll stick with PC this time also.
Glad the universe isn't abandoned. They've worked hard to make 2077 a belated success and I hear mostly praise about its current state
@Casco I don't know if a single tweet saying a sequel is being made and it will take the franchise further is overhype that they can't live up to.
id prefer a prequel.
This is legit 7 years away.
I guess they did this to attract talent...but still.
clearly all the promised dlcs for the first game going into the sequel
Actual trains, that you can ride in/on. An actual cyber verse net to explore and get zapped by ice. No invisible walls or higher fences. Better gear, more options. Maybe something other than night city, like militech base or some nature. Would it kill you to introduce pets, drones, ability to go cyber psycho.
Just keep night city and maybe have 1 or 2 recurring characters and for the next game focus in AI, mission structure and for the love of God, driving feel! The design, aesthetic and sounds of night city they nailed. Make it like yakuza where they just keep on building depth into the framework of Kamurocho
I preordered Cyberpunk 2077. Restarting the game because of a crash really got on my nerves. I still Loved the core game enough to play through one faction to 100% complete all quest and side quest! Then grabbed the platinum on launch PS5. It did still had issues but was much better over all.
So Hell Yeah I will buy the next CyberPunk game DAY ONE!
Hopefully get to play it before I die of old age
All this is is them trying to Hype up investment again they've learned absolutely nothing from their previous mistakes including announcing projects way too early and then trying to slam them through the last minute and thus releasing it completely bugged and crap or unfinished like cyberpunk all done under extremely crunchy working conditions .
The reason why they're doing it right now in this moment is because they got together in a little boardroom somewhere and saw the numbers of people coming back and playing cyberpunk because of a stupid anime and were 'like hey let's capitalize on this hype and create more hype cuz that worked so well for us last time!'
cautiously optimistic
F**kin' nova! A game that I can really really look forward to, no matter how long it takes.
It will probably run horribly on PS5 and people will argue that they should have made it a PS6 exclusive.
Would be interested to compare pre order numbers to compare to 2077 when it comes around. A measure of the damage done.
Hopefully this one won't be stuck in pre-production for years then rushed out unfinished.
Sucker born every minute.
I'm almost at the end of Cyberpunk, and I have to say I've really enjoyed it! I think the characters are top notch, all very memorable. The combat is pretty great too and gets better as you level up and install more cyberware. There's some really good side missions too. A solid 8, possibly 9 for me. I think if they could make the city a bit more memorable for the sequel that would be a good start!
I definitely won't be pre-ordering it, unless the embargo is lifted early enough to allow reviews and gameplay.
Predictions:
On PS5: barely runs
On PS5 Pro: runs a little better
On PS6 with PS5 compatibility mode: runs ok
On PS6 version: runs good
@Somebody this is just the start, an announcement of a game that is the better part of a decade away. They have announced a mainline Witcher game, they should have committed to delivering that instead of just committing to so much stuff.
Hyped for this already but FOR THE LOVE OF GHOD CDPR BLESS THIS GAME WITH A THIRD PERSON OPTION!!!
If this make you hyped, slap yourself hard.
Good lord, I feel like comments should be closed regarding anything CDPR. I understand the backlash from Cyberpunk 2077, but they are doing their best to fix it, and all people want to do is continually trash them. At this point, we all get it. Move on already. Either forgive them and accept that they are trying to fix what was broken, or just stop commenting, or at the very least be original in your comments.
Also, everyone only talks about how great The Witcher 3 is (and rightfully so), and how bad Cyberpunk 2077 was, but they aren’t a one-off; they made two other games prior to TW3 and they were quite good. Cyberpunk is actually a pretty damn good game now, regardless of whether or not it “lived up to the hype” or it wasn’t the game they promised. It’s not as if it’s awful - and even though their next endeavors may or may not be masterpieces, I highly doubt they will be bad games. They have talented writers, and know how to create memorable characters and interesting stories within their game worlds, whether that’s through the environment or side activities.
Personally, I think people need to chill out and wait. Until then, be smart. Stop preordering games; it’s pointless. Why buy a game on launch day? Wait for it to go on sale or until it’s patched. Why do people need it right away? People complain about games releasing annually like COD or Assassin’s Creed, or the constant remakes and remasters, and yet it’s the consumers fault for spending money on it. If you want things like that to stop, here’s the solution: Stop. Buying. It. The companies aren’t forcing you to. Hold yourself accountable.
Lucky enough to play it on a PS5 at launch and enjoyed the hell out of it. I’m definitely in for a sequel, but really hope they deliver a polished game for EVERYONE at launch next time!
@Bluethief I like to kick against the game because it was a mess. Its fine that everyone makes it ok with even people going so far to say that people who bought the PS4 version where at fault. And lets be honest here they sold it as a PS4 game that ran on a PS5.
@BlackMayge Why should i chill out the game was a mess i cancelled my preorder yea it run good on a PS5 more then a year later. Ill wait till there next released game and after the reviews.
Slow down horsey!
@BlackMayge They sold me a broken product, promised waaaay more then they tried to deliver, all this done on purpose for all the wrong reasons. I have a reason to flip them off, but I do not see how that is your problem? Do you have family working there?
Take 2 - 'tHe WaY it sHould have Been experienced...'
eh good luck cdpr. yes broken, ps4 pro remembers. (launch player and gone through every update. least the plat was done ps4/ps4pro.)
@Flaming_Kaiser Why should you chill out? You answered your own question - because you canceled your preorder. You were subsequently refunded your money and didn’t spend anything. Plus, what is the point of preordering a game? I don’t understand this concept. Most games are easily accessible at your local stores. I can see preordering a collector’s edition because those are limited.
@Humaniac No, I don’t have family working there. The game has been out two years now. You sound like a disgruntled ex. Move on; CDPR is, and they are doing their best to fix their mistakes, and they are doing a good job at it.
@Casco it was likely announced to attract developers or investors. This a common practice lately. They aren't really hyping anything here. It's literally just saying what we already should have expected, there will be another cyberpunk.
I really hope development goes way smoother this time and that they're able to make a fully realized game. I get that they fumbled pretty flippin hard with the first game but they shouldn't be crapped on forever for it. I do hope it'll be 3rd person this time.
@BlackMayge Great thing is in the stores here i dont even have to pay upfront just walk in only with CE games. Thats why they give tons of nice extra's and some stores have even extra stuff.
