God of War Ragnarok was always going to be a commercial juggernaut, but it sounds like the PS5 and PS4 sequel could go above and beyond some expectations. According to UK charts firm GfK (as reported by Games Industry), Ragnarok has already broken records, enjoying the biggest UK launch in franchise history — and that's based on physical sales alone.
What's more, the sequel has managed to shift more copies in a single day than any other God of War title has managed in its first full week on the market. Given that the adventures of Kratos have always sold especially well, this result will be a very promising sign from Sony's perspective.
Ragnarok is expected to leap straight to the top of the latest UK charts, which will be officially revealed in the coming days. Its predecessor, 2018's God of War reboot, is currently the most commercially successful instalment in the series, so it'll be very interesting to see whether Ragnarok can keep pace, and perhaps even overtake Santa Monica Studio's previous effort.
The report also says that 55 per cent of Ragnarok's opening PS5 sales have come courtesy of the console bundle, and so it's fair to assume that Sony's current-gen system will be posting some impressive numbers alongside its new blockbuster.
How well do you think God of War Ragnarok will sell? Are we looking at a real record breaker here, or will things slow down? There's no need for Spartan Rage in the comments section below.
