God of War Ragnarok Enjoys Biggest UK Launch in Series History, Just a Day After Release

I’m a few hours in so far and my goodness Sony Santa Monica have a winner on their hands. Well deserved!

Only started today, so far it is brilliant! This is a very talented studio.

I'm a few hours into it and it seems to be a fantastic game, I'm already enjoying the story more than the previous entry and enemy variety is already better. I expect this to be more successful than it's predecessor, which whilst itself has been a great success a lot of it was as part of the hits collection. So at least from a money point of view it should do more as Sony seem to be banking on their games holding their value longer much like Nintendo have done recently.

In any case its a great game and if you're a Playstation owner and like this type of game then it's certainly one of the very best

Not surprised. So far it's been very good. About 8hrs in, but that's me taking my time and exploring alot. Probably just scratched the surface!

Launching the game at Holiday time with a console bundle was a very wise move. The game is fantastic, everything is improved, the side quests are amazing and the story and acting is up there with the best in gaming.

There is a section that wrapped up GOTY for me and I haven't even finished the game.

I've bought it but not started it yet still finishing up the first gow hopefully be able to start it tomorrow or Sunday can't wait.

Get in there - well deserved. As one of our esteemed commentators would say - Kratos the GOAT. Word up son. Did I get it right?

Fantastic if these Sony top end AAA games keep selling and the consoles then Sony will continue to keep making more.

The console bundles just kept selling and selling in the UK, noticed more stock had arrived today and a work colleague ordered one in front of me at work today being delivered Tuesday.
After I tipped him off new stock had arrived this morning.

No lie these side quests are another level imo, they are fantastic

Can't wait to get settled down infront of the t.v. with snacks maybe a beer or two and the Dualsense. 11 hours in but I've been wandering off the beaten path and doing some sidequests.

This to me is what gaming is all about.

@ChrisDeku TLOU2 has one of the biggest openings... but also one of the biggest drop offs once word of mouth got around.
God of War has earned it the old fashioned way: by not "subverting our expectations" and just being what the fans want it to be.

I am still stuck on Ascension before getting stuck into God of War on PS4. This will be on sale by the time I get to it in a year or two. Looking forward to being late to the party.

Just about 4hrs in and already been to all emotions. This is brilliant.

Still very early into it and it's the best game played this year! Such a great start!

Its games like this that reminds me why I adore PlayStation so much and reminds me why I've always chosen a PlayStation as my main first choice console under my tv these past 27 years. Keep em coming PlayStation

Sony first party continues to one-up themselves in a sort of friendly competition. I have to wait until February to play Ragnarok unfortunately but I cannot wait as someone who loved every moment of the 2018 reboot and put 125 hours into it.

Amazing game. There are not enough superlatives. I was going to finish gotham knights first but i had to have a sneak peek and then that was it..

I've just over the last few days started god of war 2018 and I'm only 4% of the way through ,so alot still to do ,I've not played it before and it's absolutely fantastic ,graphics,cinematics etc etc ,well if god of war 2018 carries on being this brilliant, I can't possibly imagine ragnorok being any better ,but most people from reviews and here as well are saying its much better ,gosh have I got greatness to look forward to

It's one of the reasons why I love the playstation brand ,such amazing games from all developers, nothing is ever perfect ,(you could argue that perfection is in the eye of the beholder anyway ),but the playstation brand keeps delivering what I need and want as a gamer:)

Being fair he has got a good point and it is true.
I got a FIFA bundle as I wanted the PS5 model the CFI-12** number.
But I got lucky as someone a work go the GOWR bundle and we are swapping game download codes, so good result for me.

I guess everyone has adjusted to the price increase.
Glad to see it’s successful and I look forward to playing it.

@Dezzy70 pretty sure one can get the Fifa bundle if they don't want the God of War one. If Sony wanted to push sales of a game that most didn't want, they'd have Sackboy or Retural bundles instead.

Going by your logic Sonic, Mario and Masterchief are only household names, because us poor gamers had a gun pointed at our heads as we were forced to buy them alongside the hardware. When in reality we are buying the hardware because of the games!

No work colleague could only get the GOWR bundle and even I tried for him.
Anyway worked out well he got my FIFA code I got his GOWR code. So perfect.

@Dezzy70 that's not the case, though. I looked it up online. The Fifa bundle is also available at different retailers. He may simply not have been aware of it. At any rate, happy it worked out for both of you.

Hopefully this game topples call of duty in the charts, fully deserves it. Sony never fail to impress, 2 years into the current gen and yet its a playstation 4 game that's the most likely the best game of the year.

Well we did try pretty hard. But don’t be fooled by the likes of Game UK, as it looks like they have stock fifa bundle console nothing else, when you go to add to your basket they say no stock as Game UK add extra controllers etc and make you buy them with the FIFA bundle.
That is not Sony but Game UK making you spend more during these hard times we are going through to get a PS5 disgrace of a shop.

@Dezzy70 tbf I don't think there's ever been a time where I've seen a playstation 5 for sale in the top retailers that isn't a forced bundle. Whether it's sony themselves or not, I got my ps5 from shopto but had to have Deathloop, immortals fenyx rising, Ghost of tsushima and an extra controller in forced bundle.

Shop forced bundles are the worse even Argos and Smyths toys have started joining a little bit as well as the bad Game and especially Curry’s forced bundles to name a few.
And in the next breath they are telling you and have adverts how they are trying to help the UK during the cost of living crisis, lying scum bags they are.

@MightyDemon82 I did have to replace my busted PS5 with the HFW bundle when I already finished and got bored with the game which is almost a year old BTW.

@lets_do-this_1999 Yeah but somewhere after PS3 they've lacked variety which is why the PS3 library is head and shoulders above the PS4 PS5 libraries, this from a console that's was barren until nearly the end of that generation.

@Dezzy70 too true and the irony of it is you are not saving anything buying this game as a bundle, it will still be 70 quid, I'm not paying that not now and not anytime soon

Somethings been bugging me about this game ( and the last) and I now realise what it is, the puzzles completely destroy the illusion of being a god. Theres a wooden gate that needs opening, I'm playing as a powerful god, with an axe but rather than smash it down, like kratos does with much sturdier structures in cut scenes, when it suits, I have to mess with pulleys and levers. Or that ledge just above head height? could easily reach up and grab it or spend five minutes lowering the block. The guy leaps twenty feet in the air when taking down a dragon but 10 foot is too high to climb up? It's inconsistent, what are Kratos' powers exactly, he's a superhero when he needs to be then he's Nathan drake between bosses. Little lizards can hurt him but getting his face smashed into the ground from a 50 foot drop seems like an annoyance. It's a great game and I'm enjoying it but the swing from all powerful to everyman is jarring.

@Blackbluto Not everyone has to like the same things and that's ok, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with HFW spent over 140 hours playing it and didn't once use fast travel.

On topic played some more of this beautiful game and it certainly deserves it's success. The Devs keep one upping themselves at every corner!

It’s ok to pay it as long as it is a game you want to play. But it would be better without the game bundle overall.
