It's been a while since we heard anything about Cyberpunk 2077 or its upcoming expansion, Phantom Liberty — which is still supposed to be releasing this year. But if Steam database logs are to be believed, then CD Projekt Red's silence could soon be broken.
As pointed out on Reddit, the game's changelist shows that a number of edits have been made recently — with the latest alteration being logged just yesterday, at the time of writing. Now, these developer edits don't guarantee the arrival of a major patch, but given the frequency of these recent adjustments, some fans believe that news could be coming in the near future.
Okay, so why is Cyberpunk 2077's 1.7 update so anticipated in the first place? Well, as reported back in September, CDPR said that the game's next big update would bring notable gameplay additions and improvements.
It's going to overhaul the title's rather stunted police system, and rework vehicle combat. What's more, we've been promised better melee mechanics alongside changes to cyberware. All of this will, supposedly, pave the way for the aforementioned Phantom Liberty expansion.
We don't know how close the launch of Phantom Liberty will be to the deployment of this patch, but we are due some fresh details from CDPR. The update could, potentially, drop along with the expansion itself, but we highly doubt that Phantom Liberty will arrive without a significant marketing push.
Will you be returning Night City? When do you think Phantom Liberty will release? Give the cops the slip in the comments section below.

Looking forward to playing this in 2077
I think it's far more likely they would bring these enhancements alongside the DLC, so unless they're also releasing the DLC suddenly, these significant enhancements aren't happening immediately.
Keep in mind they pointed out that new feature development etc is only being done on current-gen+PC, just like how the DLC is not coming to previous-gen. I'm sure dropping that old hardware is enabling these bigger changes (eg. much better AI+systems for Police thanks to more CPU). It would make a lot more sense to drop these big changes alongside the DLC to maximize hype.
Still ain't got round to this PS5 version yet. The 1.7 patch does sound promising though but having said that, the 1.7 patch should have been included in the game from day one, not day 450 however long it's been. One day I'll get my moneys worth from this game, maybe this year?
@themightyant literally snorted tea through my sinuses when I read this 😅
I can't return yet but I'll definitely be back for Phantom Liberty!

What will "finish" first, Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky? 🤷♂️
Would not mind waiting a bit longer if they add a psvr2 mode. Please !
Will it have more haircuts. Thats my major concern.
What ever came of the Music contest?
@themightyant Pfft, stealing my 2077 joke from 2020. I see how it is now....
I just want the police to call me a “f***ing gonk” as I’m dying and I’ll be all set.
Add PSVR2 support, not just cinematic ACTUAL VR support, and I'll take back every negative I've ever said about Cyberpunk.
@Krysus
No joke that would possibly get me to impulse buy PSVR2 right away if that actually happened. Talk about ambitious. Would be cool though!
@NEStalgia with THAT specific joke it’s first come first served 😂
Ah, yes. Everyone's favourite disappointment may eventually become an actual finished video game.
@danzoEX I think it finished and the music's been decided. It'll be interesting to see what kind of tracks made it in.
@Vil exactly. Somehow we are supposed to be hyped about a fraudently advertised project still trying to push out slow updates, years late, to fix basic systems that were missing or unfinished at launch.
Good luck with that level of short term memory loss, and willful serving oneself up as prey to slimey predatory development.
@Korgon @Krysus Totally agree. Bought it on xb, it's actually not a bad game these days, but it would fit vr amazingly well and be absolutely incredible to play in VR. I'd buy it again on ps for that.
Really looking forward to playing this again soon with all the improvements. I think i'll go a netrunner street kid again.
My prediction is it'll come alongside the DLC so that they can get a big influx of players, as gamers may be burned out by returning twice.
I have a 100% prediction rate so far. After deducing that Zelda would be a switch exclusive and that EA would bring out a sports game. I'd listen to my words, I'm like a prophet.
