Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software has confirmed it doesn't have any post-launch DLC (downloadable content) in the works for its wizarding simulator as of right now. Speaking with IGN, game director Alan Tew said the team has been so focused on shipping the base game that "at the moment there are no current plans for DLC". Of course, the open world title will be supported with patches and bug fixes — one update is already live — but big expansions aren't on the cards.
If the studio does change its mind then it'll be starting on any DLC from scratch, meaning it will be a long time before it's ready to reveal those plans. As such, Hogwarts Legacy expansions are either never happening or are pretty far off in the future.
What's already there, though, will last you quite a long time. Gunning for the Platinum Trophy will take at least 50 hours of play, and our Hogwarts Legacy guide will help you get there. Had you been hoping the game would get DLC? Share your reaction in the comments below.

Would love to see quidditch and wizard chest as DLC if they decide too in the future! That's all I feel is missing from the game.
@OMG_Waffles
Oh wow, I didn't realize neither of these were in the game. They sound like they'd be great DLC options!
I remember from the GBC titles, they had the collectible wizard cards... I wouldn't be against a return of those, along with a straight up TCG side game!
@Browny
Yep both are missing from the game. I feel that not having them in game does take away a bit of fun that could have been especially since the quidditch stadium is parked right next to Hogwarts school. It's a fine game (strong 9 - 10 in my opinion) with addition of wizards chest and quidditch would have totally put it over the top for me and been a 10 - 10.
Well that's incredibly disappointing
Please don’t. Just work on a sequel, where, as fun and good as the first game is, the weakest aspect of the game isn’t making you feel like a student at hogwarts.
A sequel that actually has social gameplay elements and other students don’t just disappear with little reason for you to care, could elevate the game to something incredible.
Again, Legacy is a good game, but a proper sequel that uses the already built hogwarts could blow it out of the water.
Was really hoping for a Quittich add-on. Would definitely have paid for it!
I like the idea of no DLC for the game, and the studio instead starting work on a sequel with Quidditch and other goodies included. It's a breath of fresh air to buy a game and knowing it's the complete package.
A sequel then 🙏🏻
I hope they make a game that takes place in the 4th century bc.
Oh you best believe after these sales figures, they will be put to work on it soon
These days I tend to prefer having all the content in the game on Day 1 without DLC being added further down the line. But like others have suggested, I wouldn't say no to them adding Quiddich.
Much prefer it this way. Also this way they can develop for current gen only. I still find it hard to believe this game will eventually run on the Switch.
First time I'm disappointed we received a full product and we will not be getting any dlc for it 🤷
They are likely still working on the ports for ps4/x1/switch. I imagine plans for dlc or sequels come after.
Given sales, it would be insane not to expect a sequel. The game really did much better than i expected. This is by far Avalanche's most successful product.
That's totally cool. Take a break and then, perhaps, make a Quidditch game? Either way, the massive success of this will surely lead to Warner Bros. making more Wizarding World games through their Portkey label and lay off the superheroes for a while ...which I for one wouldn't complain about.
I'm so sick of superheroes, man ...
I absolutely believe them when they say they put their all into shipping the base game so I can't say I'm too disappointed. If they want to hold off, take a well earned break and come back with a sequel some time down the road that takes some of the feedback they got for this title then by all means do so.
Whatever they decide Avalanche is officially on the map as far I'm concerned. They created a wonderful game.
A quiddich game could need to be a stand alone spin off, and still i dont see how they make this game make sense. Quiddich world cup on GC had a certain charm but its a made up game that isn't that well thought, just sounds fun on paper
The potential to have a GTA online style of game branches off and developed from this would be amazing.
Competing houses… tons of quests… addition of quidditch…. Ect ect…. This games potential is amazing.
My child dislikes games… more a reader… cant stop playing this game.
The menu system and the current quest menu and the trails you can make appear.
This game has so much potential and is going to get so many people to discover gaming on a level of OHhhhhhhhh so this is why people enjoy games.
And on the flip… I’m not a reader so I’ve never been into this potter stuff…. But now I get it and will be watching all of the movies.
This game is so good.
So as I suspected the so called Deluxe edition was a waste of money. Just cosmetics for an extra tenner.
They have not said there wont be any dlc ever they said there are no plans at the moment as they are concentrating on the base game. You can bet your kidneys there will be dlc for hogwarts at some point in the future..
I see it as a good thing. It means they shipped us a full game instead of cutting out pieces and selling that as dlc like a lot of companies do now. Having said that I am absolutely loving this game even as a not Potter fan. It's exactly the type of Open world game I like the play. I really feel like I am the student and living in that world and that's usually a sign of a good rpg. I would love to see either an expansion of a sequel in the future. They showed us they can make a brilliant game in the universe.
Turns out JK Rowling doesn’t need another ivory back scratcher. She’s no doubt concentrating on subjugating vulnerable people instead.
Please release some DLC! 🙏
I’m not getting any younger, and I rather not play as some teenager in my late 30s years - early 40s years due to how long a sequel will take to develop.
@OMG_Waffles Wizard Chest? I think you mean Wizard Chess.
@Arnna You're a bit late to that conversation. Also if you look at how well this game is selling, most people don't like being told what they can and can't play.
@Acurisur
1. I don’t recall once telling people what they can and can’t play.
2. A big budget Harry Potter game is always going to sell millions. So?
3. That game selling millions doesn’t legitimise the author’s view on Trans people in any way.
4. Her views are still abhorrent.
I thought HL was a good first attempt. They made a beautiful and awesome game, which got repetitive after the first 20 hours. I feel the sequel is where they are going to really shine.
Well, unfortunately the patch doesn’t seem to have completely resolved the collection miscount for the trophy. I’m still 17 short on the trophy counter to what the in game count shows. Hopefully it’ll still unlock, but it’s disappointing. Jumped by 122 with the patch, but they still seem to be miscounting.
Must be entering a new era of gaming. No DLC or MTX for a WB game, EA putting out lots of new single player games and live service ones dying off every other week!
Avalanche is lying. There will be definitely Quidditch added in DLC. I heard NPCs talking about it.
@Bricktop33 At no point did they say it included a season pass, though. Why did you assume it did but they were just keeping it a secret? The real benefit of it was the 3 days early access.
Thats good to hear it shows they have faith the have given the best experience they can I can respect that from the developers. That i did not support the release has nothing to do with the developers.
@Vil I just want a new Infamous. 😅
@crimsontadpoles I think those days are over unfortunately
This is such a huge game that DLC hardly feels necessary.
Not that it wouldnt be welcome. Im enjoying the title immensely, and and im sure Id appreciate anything that allowed me to remain in the world longer...

@Flaming_Kaiser Infamous is cool. I meant the Marvel and DC stuff, mainly that there is still five million movies and series coming out each year and I don't care about any of it lol
@OMG_Waffles
Black banned Quidditch is why it isn't in the game.
I have to presume they didn't contemplate dlc, because of the backlash which may of happened Probably wanted to do the wait and see approach,
I mean reality is at the time, all the hatred was growing they didn't know which way it was going to go.
They must be out of their minds, the amount of sales and money to be made. I would happily get quidditch dlc and more story options or extra content. Really great game! Word up Ravenclaw.
@Father-Noo I realise this isn't what people mean by "appropriate" but I can't think of a much more appropriate response to accusations against JKR's character, than actual words from the horse's mouth that demonstrate none of those characteristics. Sure, the article ventures into NSFW territory but I'd rather that than opinions about a person's character that have very little basis in fact.
I do find it a little ironic that JKR has been accused in this thread of "subjugating vulnerable people" - "subjugating" btw, means "the action of bringing someone or something under domination or control". I'll leave it open to interpretation whether this is actually true or not, but given the propensity of "angry trans allies" (a completely different group of people to "the trans community", here I'm just talking about the people going round twitter/the internet looking for wrongthink to correct. A lot of them aren't even trans) to want to completely reject, correct and demand compliance from anyone who expresses a point of view contrary to their own (no matter why someone holds it), at the very least it's the pot calling the kettle black.
A game cannot be a solid bug-ridden standalone game anymore. There must be more, they has to be more, we crave more, MORE.
@danlk1ng 👍
I agree that Hogwarts legacy seems pretty impressive as it is. Does the game really need DLC?
I think that it would be nice to play chess with your school friends, and, yes, Quidditch would be great - but is it really necessary?
Besides, I feel that getting Quidditch to work in the game would require a massive effort. Considering how Quidditch is actually played in the books.
My play-through has been 60 hours, so far, and I am just getting ready to start the finale. And there is still so much that I could discover, that I feel like I have barely scratched the surface.
Also, considering how many games have DLC and later patches and add-ons, it is refreshing to actually buy a game that feels complete already.
@Arnna The game has absolutely nothing to do with her personal views on the matter and associating a product that is likely to succeed with her statements will just hand them a loss. Extreming and harassing third parties for playing it will just earn more negativity towards them and their supporters. It's a game, not a piece of legislation. Choose your battles.
