Developer Guerrilla Games has confirmed that potential PSVR2 system seller Horizon Call of the Mountain has gone gold, meaning that the game's ready to ship. This announcement has been dropped surprisingly close to the platform's launch on the 22nd February — but honestly, that probably doesn't mean much. It could just be that the studio has been making some tiny tweaks to the experience right up until its deadline.
We don't know about you, but we're very excited to see what Call of the Mountain has in store. We went hands on with a preview build not too long ago, and walked away very impressed indeed. There's little doubt that this is going to be a PSVR2 showpiece — particularly on a technical level.
Will you be playing Horizon Call of the Mountain in just a couple of weeks from now? Grab your bow and take aim in the comments section below.

Now this is the big news of the day!!! I can't wait!!!
16 DAYS TO GO!!!
I know you should never wish your time away, but roll-on the 22nd!
I have to temper my excitement a bit as I felt the same waiting for PS5 release day. My PS5 got 'lost' in transit and I had to wait three more days for a replacement!
What does this mean for a digital-only release with a day-one patch?
Oh cant wait now, roll on 22 feb. Really looking forward to this and vr 2 in general. 😁😁😁
HYYYYYYYYYPE!!
Trying to not think too much about it with a delivery window from 22-28, it could be a looong wait for this....
@SJBUK As unlucky as you were with your PS5 at launch, you were also lucky that they had replacements. My mate's PS5 also got 'lost' in transit but they had no stock left to send him a replacement. The company were also very unhelpful so in the end he asked for a full refund expecting he'd be able to get stock elsewhere, but that wasn't the case and it took almost 6 months. eek!
@themightyant eek, that sucks. My heart dropped to my boots when Amazon admitted it had been lost, I thought I'd be lucky to get a replacement. Very happy I did. Either they kept back some stock for shipment 'losses' or DOAs or I got some poor buggers PS5!
Physical ? Are psvr2 games going to be Physical or only download ? as no news.
@Luna-Harmony A few will get physical copies, mostly via PerpGames.
I had hoped it had gone gold already, since two weeks before launch means that a physical copy wont be ready for launch; which makes it less likely that it will exist at all, and that was one of the games I really wanted to play.
I know there was no announcement or information about there being a physical copy at all; but I was holding out hope. Oh well, I am sure there will be other titles to play!
I have the bundle preordered so will be playing this hopefully on the 22nd, along with RE Village, GT7 and Kayak VR
This is a proper reason to be excited in gaming again! Best hardware release in 10 years. Makes you feel like a kid again.
@carlos82 I have the same games ready but unsure of Call of the mountains longevity.
Is call of the mountain getting a physical release?
Finally, next gen is about to arrive!
Can't wait to be playing this, RE7 and NMS in VR, plus I picked up a copy of GT7 today. So friggin hyped, I'm more excited than I was for the PS5. Just gotta ready myself for the possibility that my bundle won't arrive until the 28th...
PS store is kind of confusing where games with upgrades come in. It's just the stock version of NMS that you need to get the VR upgrade right? Funny enough, I can't actually find NMS on the PS store. I search for "No Mans Sky" and "No Man's Sky" and the game does not turn up in results, it's a ton of unrelated results. If have to search on google for "psn no mans sky" to get the link to the page on PS store lol.
@NEStalgia
I did hear that NMS may have been delayed, but that’s unconfirmed. It shouldn’t matter much which version you get anyway as everything is a free upgrade.
But yes, the stores a bit of a mess. Took me a while to find out you can choose versions to get bundles that sent otherwise on the store (Moss and S&S).
@thefourfoldroot1 Good to know, I might as well not buy it yet then. I'm only buying for the VR, and it's not on sale or anything, so might as well just wait for it to launch for sure. If it's too delayed maybe I'll lose interest if anything else interesting appears. Maybe Song in the Smoke will have to be Day 1 if NMS isn't
I'm at the point I want to try ALL the things, yet know it's stupid because I'll get addicted to a few and not try the others. That town building game is on sale, that looks more VR appropriate than Cities, to me.
Horizon is going to be my big one, but I also know it's probably a short-ish experience. Which is sad because that's my favorite PS series, so seeing it in first person is just going to blow me away. OTOH, that first time you're staring down a sawtooth for real may end up killing me... in 2D you don't notice the multi-chainsaw mouth nightmares these bots are...in VR that's another level. Honestly I just hope you get to ride the Great Elevator at Meridian. That's all I ask.
I really didn't want to open up my PS before VR arrives just in case something bad happens, but I did end up buying a 1TB PNY SSD and heatsink, because my internal drive is always full, I need HFW on there still which is huge, GT7 which is huge, if I add NMS and CotM I'll be out enough room for other stuff, so I figured I really do need to finally order the drive. That $50 from the charging cradle went into something more practical (hopefully.) If I hate not having the cradle, maybe I'll have a few days still to use me 15% coupon from the Edge. The SSD should arrive this week. Was going to hold out for 2TB but that's a lot of money all at once, and my XSX with the internal + 1TB feels fairly roomy compared the the ultra-cramped PS5 and the non-stop disk space errors when patches hit, and since PS is all for exclusives + VR I should be ok without tons and tons of space. 650GB just doesn't cut it though.
@thefourfoldroot1 Oh and the store...it's just truly on another level of mess.
It kind of feels like they don't care at all about PSVR2, which is the vibe we've always had of it, but half the games coming to VR2 aren't even listed on the VR2 games page. Most of the rhythm games are flat out missing. It has Crossfire which is showing as just "Announced" but then is missing tons of other games that are also "Announced." On the PS Store app I saw plenty of other games in a much bigger page, that's similar but different, by clicking a different link for VR2, but I can't find that page again.
There's like 23 on the PS Store page, there's 30-something on sites like this and IGN, and that doesn't even include a few of the "2023" games like Firmament.
It's not just VR though. There's issues like searching for No Man's Sky not finding NMS, an ancient PS4 game, and instead showing results for: Apex Legends, Biomutant, Maneater, Cities, Monster Jam, Rockband - Marilyn Manson DLC, and Kingdoms of Amalur.... I kid you not! The PS store search engine feels like a copy of AltaVista from 1998.
Most all the VR2 games still say they require Move controllers and PS camera.
You'd think since PS Store is their biggest money maker they'd make sure it...you know....works....at all...like....lets you pay money for stuff that you ask it to sell you....?
@NEStalgia Despite having the entire universe contained therein No Man's Sky filesize is actually pretty small (around 13GB) as it's all procedurally generated.
Searching for it is a problem with the PS Store's search functionality specifically, which they gimped a while back in an update. Some searches work, others it just doesn't find the game at all. Google it instead and it will show up #1 in your territory.
@themightyant That's a surprisingly small file size! Still, I'm ALWAYS maxed on space on the internal, and constantly downloading and deleting 50-100GB files is probably not a good thing for the life of the drive.... Maybe I'd be ok on space if I just delete FF7R (which I'm sure I'll get around to finishing before part 3....probably.) Not sure how big CotM is though.
Hah, yeah, that's how I ended up finding it. That's an awful store if the answer is "just use google."
@NEStalgia
Yeah, not 100% on NMS delay yet, but it’s definitely worth waiting for a sale or just getting a physical copy second hand given all the updates are free.
I know what you mean about wanting everything though, lol.
Regarding HCotM, it seems about the same size as Astro Recue Mission, which is fine for me. That game lasted a while because of all the collectibles which are also in Horizon. I feel like although thats just padding in most games, in VR it’s a joy and genuine game extender because of how integral, and just wonderful, exploration is in VR.
As for storage. I’ve never come close to hitting mine as I remove games once I finish them but, with so many games hitting VR2 at once (not to mention Hogwarts), I’ll just have to restrain myself a little. Which is probably good to stop me swapping between games too often and so not experiencing them in the best way.
I have Resi8, pistol whip, S&S, and NMS installed, just waiting for the updates. Will need room for Kayak and Horizon day one, and hopefully would have completely finished some stuff before Switchback is out (pre ordered, but a bit of a blessing it got delayed I think).
@DiscoStuUK
Got my copy four days ago. Did all the licensing & a couple races pancake style. Leave the rest for the headset only.
Headset haptics gonna blow our minds!
@Max_the_German they’re now ready to start on the day 1 patch.
@thefourfoldroot1 I think right now I have HZD (finishing up before HCotM lands), HFW will replace it though and it's much bigger. GT7 needs to stay. GoW18 (Still need to finish!), FF7R (still need to finish), Returnal which I like to poke into now and again, and I forget, something else I didn't want to delete, and that's all that fits. Which was working fine, but if I start grabbing a lot of VR games, that's going to be messy. I do tend to jump between games though. I started HzD back in 2017 and am only now just finishing it, lol. GoW18 I started in like 2019, got bored at the second lake trip and just kind of sat there. I gnaw on it from time to time...
Still nervous about opening the PS5 though. I mean it's not like I'm some tech novice that doesn't understand those little green boards, I've built more PCs than my wallet cares to recount, but I just worry about either bending or breaking a plastic bit off the panels, or that once in 100 static charge frying something because stuff happens.)
IDK what engine CotM is built on. HZD is about 60GB, HFW is about 100, so I'm assuming if CotM is pulling in large chunks of HZD's world in the HFW engine, it might be pretty sizable to install.
@NEStalgia I wouldn't worry about the drive in terms of deleting things. They do have a number of cycles but it's FAR more than is ever likely on a console in normal use. It's more do you want to wait to download 50-100GB if you
But yes more storage is needed for us enthusiasts. I bit the bullet last year and am already starting to run out of that m.2 expansion too! (>300GB left) Need to have a cull and delete games I am going to play immediately.
Re: store search. I'm not sure what happened, it used to be pretty good, or at least I never had a problem, but last year I started noticing SOME games just wouldn't come up even if you spelled them word for word. It's not quite as bad as Xbox's old phone app which had the worst search i've ever seen, wrong about 50% of the time, but on the occasions when it just doesn't work it's awful.
@NEStalgia
I tend to play one game at a time, the others I have are just sat there waiting for VR2. Even then it’s usually a PS4 game (currently have Ys 9 in, which is 7.12GB, also have Steins Gate at 14.97GB for if I want a VN).
I do have some games installed to get coins and such for the stars program (MK11, for example) but I don’t play them so can just delete them any time. Got 427.8GB available apparently. For your reference NMS is 13.33GB, if you do get Resi it’s 31.08GB, S&S is 18.34GB. This is all before the PSVR2 patches of course.
I think CotM will be much smaller than the other Horizons. Apart from being a smaller game, it’s also next gen only, so could have been built with that in mind. We have already seen next gen games, especially on PS5, are much smaller than their cross gen equivalents.
@themightyant Yeah, I know I'll fill that extra TB fast. I do ok on XB with the one extra TB. Since that's my multiplat box that's the one I really need more space for, but at those SSD prices, not a chance. Remember when they were supposed to open the spec and have different form factor drives, lol. Nothing like paying 2020 prices for SSDs forever!
IDK about the write cycles though, large writes like that aren't great for drives, not if you're constantly deleting and downloading stuff. I'd hope it's fine, but...I do a lot more deleting on PS than XB because of how little space I have. But on PS every time I turn it on I get errors that I don't have enough space for some patch to install. I end up deleting some 60GB game, installing a patch, then re-installing said 60GB game.
Either way I have the 1TB drive inbound....the PNY that's currently under "best 1TB value" on the SSD page on this site Got the last Amazon shipped one in stock actually. Just a matter of if I want to open up the machine before VR drops or just leave it be a few months to make sure VR day is safe
Yeah, I honestly didn't know the search was broken, I'm mostly looking at sale pages, and the specific games I tend to search for are big exclusives so it always finds them. Until now. Pretty sure Apex isn't NMS...but...I could be wrong...they're both games where the content is generated later...
@NEStalgia
Oh, and also, apparently, CotM uses Unreal rather than Decima. Although I only remember hearing it in passing in some video. Would seem strange to me, but maybe it’s better for VR for some reason.
@thefourfoldroot1 That's interesting. I'm guessing unreal has built in VR tools and targets which makes more sense than reinventing the wheel. But porting the assets and systems must have sucked.
Need to sell my PSVR1 pronto to get back as much money I can
@carlos82 Same plus No Man's Sky and Pistol Whip!
With this being €70 digital-only game, I'll wait for a steep discount.
I want an option to turn on arms, I hate the floating hands.
@themightyant @thefourfoldroot1 So I got my SSD. Stuck the heat sink on. Dared to open up my PS5, overall so far so good..... And then the screw with the spacer.... Will not come out. I used a proper #1 Phillips, no go. Just cams out. Tried #0, it bites better even though it's the wrong size. But no go, then cams out. I'm guessing they drove it in so tight it cross threaded, or they accidentally loctited it at the factory. That screw will not budge. Tried everything short of an impact driver, and I'm absolutely not taking an ID to my PlayStation 😣
So..... For now....I just stuck the drive in there with no spacer and not screwed down, just plugged into the slot. Seems to be working fine and the heatsink prevents it from shorting against the cover. I use it vertical so as long as I don't move it around it should be fine. Heat and cool cycles could shimmy the drive out at some point I guess. Ugh...
I found a replacement screw and spacer set on Amazon for $11. I probably won't open the console again just to screw it down, but I should probably buy the spare just in case it does shimmy out on its own. From reviews, sounds like a lot of people had this problem.
At least it's not $250 still like the xb drive though. That's criminal!
@NEStalgia
I have very little idea of what those parts are, but it’s a bit shoddy that this can happen from the factory on such an expensive piece of kit. I imagine it must impact quite a few models as I expect it’s all put in on machines calibrated the same way. Just not something most people would ever discover. Hope it’s not too much of a problem for you.
@NEStalgia First I’ve heard of that issue, it can’t be that widespread, but sadly manufacturing issues do happen, but still really annoying when it happens to you. As you said it Shouldn’t be an issue unless you are moving the PS5 around.
Personally took less than 5 mins to do, but I build PCs etc, and was really impressed by their simple solution.
By comparison I still haven’t bought the upgrade for XSX as I refuse to spend that amount of money on a proprietary solution (1TB currently costs more than 2TB on PS5) especially as that will be useless afterwards. PS5s can be reused in a PC. That despite needing it even more due to game pass. I should do it asap to get the most out of it but have just been patiently waiting for a discount… which just hasn’t happened. Its BS.
@SJBUK yes I have learnt through many experiences that being top level excited for something will only make it arrive at the very last possible minute, much better to not give af and then it’ll turn up unexpected much sooner 😆
@SonOfClement Good luck with getting a decent price for it. I sold mine, full setup boxed, with moves, move charging dock, camera and DS4 with charging dock. Got £70. Should have split it!
@SJBUK I’m expecting around the same but maybe +£100 with camera, move controllers, aim controller. It’s not a lot but I got my moneys worth out of it plus it will go towards the PSVR2. I say will go towards the PSVR2 but we all know it will go on shopping or whatever during the weekend, but you know what I mean.
@NEStalgia
If you’re still thinking about song in the smoke rekindled, they are apparently releasing a demo for people to try for release.
Also, you might be interested in Garden of the Sea if you aren’t too dudebro and can enjoy cutesy cartoon graphics. Also just announced for release.
@thefourfoldroot1 Yeah, I mean...launch day unit and all that....if a stuck screw the only hardware bug I got on a launch model I should count my blessings... But still annoying. (Well ok second bug is the rubber on the DS5 stick is cracking off, the exact same problem my launch day DS4's had...) We'll just have to cross our launch VR2 fingers it's as "good"
Fortunately, it's not like it's stuck in the hole you need to put it in. There's a screw hole off to the side of the 4 ones you use to secure different length SSDs that acts as a holster, and the screw and spacer are stuck in this "holster", so not being able to remove it means I can't use it where it's supposed to go, but it doesn't mean anything useful is blocked off and unusable with a spare screw.
@themightyant LOL the problems I've had with PC are the reason I'm not playing PC anymore. More than a few issues requiring dremeling the chassis or taking pliers to try to bend the chassis because parts that are supposed to "fit" ATX standard don't. Or the mobo with the power supply plug without the clip that grips it so it would shimmy out periodically.... sigh. Not cheap stuff but Asus/Gigabyte "gaming" or even "workstation" parts. That's excluding the myriad parts that don't work intermittently and/or outright fail....yeah...don't miss PC gaming problems...
But yeah, it would have been surprisingly simple had it not been the screw issue. That really caught me off guard. I ordered a spare, not sure if I'll unplug it, drag it over, and open it again just to fasten it for peace of mind for "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and leave it as-is. As long as heat/cool doesn't shimmy it out, it doesn't matter.
Heh yeah, the thing is for XB since it's my "main" 3rd party machine + GP I find it's really essential to have the expansion. But those prices.... Thankfully I bought mine launch day preorder, so the price didn't seem extravagant, it was the going rate at the time, the PS5 ones didn't exist yet, and when they launched they cost even more, so I didn't "overpay" for buying 1TB in 2020. But the fact that they're STILL 2020 prices...that's ludicrous. Honestly I'd have upgraded to 2TB if the prices were realistic, but they're just....not. It's 360 all over again, and that's not cool. No idea how they have not dropped the price, or introduced those other "form factors" yet. Though I suppose they're still in supply chain hell and haven't found the escape path PS has yet in making consoles at all, but you'd think with all the S's they've sold, the SSDs would be a no brainer to get down to earth pricing and push them like crazy....they can not be selling very many at all at that price, it costs more than you can get the whole S console, for the small option!
It's funny, because this is the one, and only one area, PS is actually the high value, low budget option!
@thefourfoldroot1 Ohh, cool, I'm definitely on the fence with Song in the Smoke, so the demo is very welcome! Same with Onogoro which I thought was a must buy but then it seemed more mediocre. I think there's a VR1 demo, so hopefully they'll have a VR2 demo (I really wish the PS Store would update games that are getting VR2 support and show it.)
Haha, definitely not too "dudebro"...I have a Nintendo themed avatar, my favorite PS game ever is Gravity Rush (RIP), love Sackboy, Astrobot, and the only ND game I think is actually good is Jak 1 I'll definitely check out Garden of the Sea, I hadn't heard of that before, thanks! Looks kind of like a more saccharine Animal Crossing. Hopefully the good AC's and not the newest terrible one that everyone raves about And doesn't have a tanooki running collections....
Townsmen VR is looking increasingly appealing. Demeo is kind of looking less appealing again.
I actually looked at the PS store again. That's just sad. Thumper, Tetris Effect, Touch the Beat, Fantavision, NMS(!), Synth Riders, Rez, Puzzling places, Pistol whip, Pavlov, NFL Pro Era, Syschronia, Drums Rock, Creed, Altair Breaker, After the Fall, 2MD....more stuff I'm not even remembering are all just MISSING! Fantavision is first party, how can they miss that?? PS Store is literally the worst possible place to check out what games PSVR2 has. I hope that's not a bad sign of future support.
Firewall looks really good, but it's unfortunately MP/squad only, so my interest is minimal.
Awesome to hear, congrats on going gold!
