Sony almost always goes hard when it’s got the bit between its teeth, but we don’t think we’ve ever seen a marketing effort quite like this from the platform holder before. As you may already know, it’s been erecting giant displays all over the globe – and there’s even speculation of a $6.5 million Super Bowl spot on Sunday. But why stop there when you can open a pop-up café in Paris?
As part of the Live from PlayStation campaign, the restaurant – open this weekend only – is decorated with all kinds of Horizon Forbidden West paraphernalia, and is serving tribal-style dishes. (Although we hope no one will be picking Clawstrider shrapnel out of their teeth!)
The Japanese giant is effectively relaunching the PS5 this year, as it sets outrageous sales targets now it’s able to successfully get stock into shops. What do you think it’ll have in store next for this impressive marketing effort?

The real launch of PS5 is finally upon us. Sales will be through the roof in 2023.
This game bored me to tears if I'm honest ,and the mens burger nips, knocked me sick summit rotten
Mmmm, corrupter blood cocktails!
@TrickyDicky99 Forbidden West is last gen?
@NomNom They're saying that simply because the game released on both PS5 & PS4.
This live from PS5 campaign of there’s is one of my favorites in a long while. Reminds me a lot of older games marketing, both where all these IPs would combine and how irl things would be set up. I don’t like praising marketing teams cuz at the end of the day their job is to make number go up, but props to them.
Looks very cool! If i were in Paris I'd visit it. Always thought Horizon would be suitable for a pretty cool theme park and a cafe like that would have a place in one.
@TrickyDicky99 HFW is more "next gen" than most of anything else released exklusive for PS5/Series X.
I'll have some 'Long Leg' frogs legs with a side order of 'Shell Walker' snails.
looks good but crazy effort for 3days
The fact this was only open a few days is mind blowing. Most people who would want to go won’t hear about it until it’s already gone.
They could easily create permanent gaming themed restaurants like this. Have sections like God of War, Horizon Forbidden West and Ratchet and Clank etc. Place one them in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo and people will flock to them for the experience.
I hope this marketing leads to a showcase soon
@TrickyDicky99 what do mean by next gen? How do you consider something "next gen"? HFW is by far the best looking open world game out there. It's even one of the best looking games of all time, running in a gigantic open world in 60fps. It is an absolute technical marvel.
@TrickyDicky99 Man, you and @dezzy70 are two peas in a pod stuck waiting forever for "true next gen" the way hardware evolved in the 90s... Doesn't work that way anymore. It never will again at least unless quantum computing takes over. Closest you'll get is going pc master race where you can buy $1500 GPUs to be 5 years ahead of consoles, but then once you buy in youre stuck in the same slow rate of evolution. Hardware was always the limiting factor back then. Not so much now, the hardware isn't the ceiling on game design, money, time, and resources are. I'm sure ps9 will render games that look pretty similar to hfw, but with much more realistic lighting and reflections, in 8k at 120fps..... But that's about the only kind of graphics improvements were going to see from here on out. Better lighting, smoother animations, rounder edges. Small stuff that adds up but it's small over a decade. It's not about tech demos for games anymore, it's all about game design. That's not necessarily a bad thing. There's no wow factor anymore but that's because the bar is pretty high across the board now.
The old SNES to N64 to PS2 level improvements just aren't going to happen again in our lifetime. Even on PC the best a $3.5k rig will get you is late hfw running at higher fps and res maybe with more RT.
Now, VR is a space where things change like they did in the 90s, with lots of wow factor but you're jaded on that already too because they're not making $150m last gen games for 5m platform owners! 😂
@NomNom To be fair, hfw was designed entirely around PS4 as the lead. Burning Shores, though......
@TrickyDicky99 And yet somehow it's one of the most technically impressive games ever released.
So when Burning Shores comes out and and is next gen only because it goes past what the PS4 can manage hopefully you will stop complaining...
but imagine coming out with an N64-4090 analogy when talking about HFW though 😄
@TrickyDicky99 ahhh I wrongly thought you were on the same graphics bent dezzy often is. We can agree on the game design part, though I can almost guarantee you'll leave the next two or more generations disappointed. I don't see the industry moving in the gameplay tech pipe dream discretion. That takes time and money, the casuals won't notice it like graphics, and it doesn't help sell battle passes. Indies will bother on smaller scale, but I think the world of game concepts you're looking for is 15,20 maybe more years away. Not because hardware holding it back or not but just cost and return.
I had to lol at destructable environments though. That's been the gamer pipe dream since the in 90s. The closest we got was Red Faction that just had scripted mesh deformation, and crackdown 3 that promised destructable environments via the power of cloud computing....... And then that's not at all what happened...
I get what you mean overall, but I don't think we'll see those kinds of changes any time soon. It's not marketable. Business designs games now.
@NEStalgia
I know it’s just not there in that way with each generation as you do also get diminishing returns with technology. Probably similar to the old days when Mobil phones hardware wise made that dramatic change but know they are small increments really.
Anyway I’m playing Metroid Prime remaster, now say compared to HFW graphics wise they are a million miles away, but dam I’m so enjoying Metroid Prime remastered. It’s just so controlled gameplay wise and the world so focused with a bit of exploration and a few collectibles.
Focused, tight and moving forward logically.
Seems a breath of old fresh air for now a days.
@Dezzy70 inb4 MP4 is open world zebes with cooking and fishing and base building
@NEStalgia
I hope not, keep it tight and focused, with some exploring etc. just like number one.
We have a million other open world games around 😂
@Dezzy70 Open world, Samus will collect resources to craft her gear, rpg-lite upgrade tree, cooking and fishing. $70. You heard it here first.
Do I get a Game Awards game designer of the year award now?
@NEStalgia
No award, you made the game to confusing now 😂.
Yes probably $70, probably switch 2.
Zelda TOTK is £60 in the UK with all taxes.
How come you $70 in USA?
It looks like they took a Rainforest Cafe and added some Horizon props.
@Dezzy70 because just like Sony in the UK, NoA knows it has customers by the PokeBalls and they can abuse customers and they'll say thank you and asked to be bent over again. . And remember that doesn't include taxes so add 5-10% depending on state. $74 on average for a game for a 2013 Android tablet. . And people wait for "next gen games" when you can sell last decades phone games for $75 by the tens of millions . It's like selling bottles of Dom for $100 when you can sell a can of Ripple for $150.
Interestingly, though they only had the digital vouchers here a few months and got rid of them. Then they brought them back the very week they announced Zelda. So I expected to pay 60, physical buyers will pay 70 and voucher digital buyers will actually pay 50..... Maybe a havy handed push to end physical by making it very expensive? Unlike Matrick everyone loves Nintendo so it'll fly.
@NEStalgia
I see, well you can’t help but love Nintendo.
It’s those dam games they make sometimes. 😊
