PlayStation has confirmed that a new State of Play broadcast will take place this Thursday — that's the 23rd February — at 9PM UK time / 10PM Central Europe / 4PM Eastern US / 1PM Pacific US.
Setting expectations as always, official channels say that the stream will comprise of:
- Five new PSVR2 games "from partners"
- Indie and third-party reveals
- An "extended look" at upcoming PS5 game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
It sounds like the main draw here is that last point. Suicide Squad will apparently take up a good chunk of the show, with a 15-minute presentation. It also suggests that PlayStation has the marketing on Rocksteady's co-op action-shooter, which is interesting.
As for the other points, well, your guess is as good as ours. We do know, however, that the event will last 45 minutes, and will feature a total of 16 PS5, PS4, and PSVR2 games.
We'll be hosting the State of Play right here on Push Square, but if you can't watch it live, be safe in the knowledge that we'll be covering all of the news in article form anyway.
What do you want from this State of Play? How high are your expectations? Don't get too carried away in the comments section below.

LET'S GO!
I was counting on some 1st party stuff soon but this will do for now
Indie and third-party reveals is my Jammm
Extended look of battle pass of suicide squad....
@Voltan SOON (we hope)
Interesting, sure I saw somewhere the other day that PS had the marketing on all WB games, unless it was DC games.
Either way, looking forward to it. Been a while.
PSVR2 Direct. Plus other stuff. This sounds good!
I'm sure Project Wingman has to be one of those games, but I'm definitely looking forward to that. Nice to have it the day after VR2 lands! But that means taking valuable time away from VR2 to watch...... decisions, decisions....
Hoping to hear something about Project Wingman for PSVR2, but I'll take whatever they want to show me.
Hopefully we get a new sf6 trailer because Capcom said we would be getting one soon.
I mean the timing of this has totally got to mean METAL GEAR SOLID…. RIGHT?!
5 more PSVR2 games, the excitement continues. Little interest in anything else at the moment though, so 15 minutes of suicide squad would need a naked Margot Robbie to steal my attention.
Yeah the 5 new PSVR2 games are the draw here for me, I can't say I'm bothered about Suicide Squad
Cool... can't wait for people to complain "that they don't want to see VR games"
PSVR2 games aside. News on Little Devil Inside would be very welcome.
@AdamNovice "tHeY lOoK LiKe MoBiLe GaMeS lul" sigh
If Helldivers 2 doesn't show up than I don't think it's going to make the march deadline
Keeping my expectations extremely low for this one. Not particularly interested in Suicide Squad, but hopefully they show the release date for Tchia.
please tell me the “third party” games aren’t indie
Expect major disappointment from people and sony goes back in its shell with vr.Personally can't wait for the psvr2 goodness!
What if they shock us with an Astrobot announcement tomorrow? Am I setting up unrealistic expectations right?
@thefourfoldroot1 But if it's not in VR would that count?
@AdamNovice @dschons LOL. Everyone knows VR just isn't worth it until there's a high budget over the shoulder third person narrative adventure on it. Who'd want to play in VR until you can stare at Kratos back like you're really a creeper trailing behind him for 30 hours?
There's more details on PS Blog:
https://blog.playstation.com/2023/02/21/new-state-of-play-arrives-thursday-featuring-suicide-squad-kill-the-justice-league/
"State of Play returns with its first show of 2023! Get ready for new looks at some anticipated games from our third-party partners, as well as a first glimpse at five PlayStation VR2 games set to arrive later this year. Then, settle in for more than 15 minutes of all-new gameplay details and updates on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the next game from Rocksteady Studios."
The wording of this suggests the show ends with Suicide Squad. Anyway, I hope that one of the PSVR2 games is Half-Life Alyx and that there's some Square Enix stuff in the 3rd party reveals segment.
Hours to go!!!
Don’t know what I’m going to play first. Completely spoilt for choice.
Looking forward to seeing what PSVR games get announced.
I'm certainly curious how Suicide Squad is going to look. This will pretty much be the first time we actually see some actual gameplay for it instead of cutscenes and very brief snippets of gameplay.
Other than that just give me that sweet sweet SF6 goodness and I'll be happy!
Cool. its been a long time.sony state of play is welcome.word up son
Hope they announce full vr support for resident evil 4 remake
@NEStalgia You jest; but as much as I love VR (I have spent many hundreds of hours in a dozen different headsets), it always ends up on my shelf collecting dust (with the occasional jaunt in BeatSaber) because there isn't much that is meaty; just ~2 hour experiences. They don't need to be AAA; huge budget titles; but I would love for more games that are not over by the time you really start to enjoy them!
@thedevilsjester Resident Evil 7 was like a good 8-9 hour game in VR. Resident Evil 8 has Full VR support. We need more survival horror in VR
Hoping for some nice indies and third party games shown. Would have liked to see more news on Stellar Blade and Spider-Man 2 though
This all seems pretty subdued. A few PSVR games and Suicide Squad don't sound worthy of a State of Play on its own; hopefully, there's still a surprise or something exciting. But I'm keeping my expectations firmly in check.
@thedevilsjester I don't quite think "hundreds of hours in a dozen headsets" and "on the shelf collecting dust" are compatible statements lol. Sounds more like trading upwards to the new hawtness than lack of interest
I mock it but I know what you mean, and generally agree. Skyrim is too big, Batman was too small, I agree there needs to be more in that Astrobot realm. Though GT7/NMS really go far in the other way of never-ending play kind of things. But I think that a lot of the complaints aren't looking for that slightly meatier realm, they're looking for the 2D experience to translate into a VR experience otherwise no deal. If it's not a 30-120 hour cinematic $150M budget thing it's not a "real" game. I mock staring at krato's back but a 1st person GoW would actually be pretty cool. GoW2018 VR from first person perspective would actually be very cool (and I'm not even a massive fan of the game, I think it'd be better in VR than 2D tbh), but, I think the naysayers ACTUALLY want the experience of staring at Kratos' quads or no buy.
@Grumblevolcano Doesn't Gaben basically hate Sony? I just don't see an Alyx partnership for Sony happening any faster than a Horizon partnership for Index.
Anything new is good. Im intrested in it all.
Im still keen on hearing more of what Sony studios have for us, but I should expect it all to be about psvr2 for the moment, so I'll let them off for now!
At last! Hopefully not too far off a showcase. Cant wait for this. 45 minutes is a great chunk of time. Hoping fir Half Life Alyx, Astrobot 2 VR, more in Silent Hill, possibly Metal Gear Solid, and more stellar blade. Expect we will see some more tekken 8 or SF6. And surely Little Devil Inside. Hopefully a Resident Evil 4 demo shadow dropping too. Expectations in check right 🤣
I’m taking bets on Hitman 3 being announced here. And while it’s a long shot, I hope they announce PSVR2 coming to retailers during this.
I want to like Suicide Squad but after that leak I don't know the battle pass and live service is making me not want to pick this up. I remember what WB did with Shadow of Mordor.
@NEStalgia I can assure you, they are most certainly compatible! (although I meant to write a half dozen headsets, not a dozen) What ends up happening is that something (new hardware, new software, etc...) renews my interest in VR, and then a few months later I realize that 99% of my time is just playing more Beat Saber because the market hasn't created those meaty titles I crave yet, and I go back to those 30-60 hour adventures that I can get elsewhere and my VR collects dust until something new starts the cycle over again. I have high hopes for what the PSVR2 can do to push the industry forward though; it has the potential to break that cycle.
@Suda51ueda there are certainly a few meaty titles out there; just not very many (and nothing that compares to say a 60hr RPG). Unfortunately I am still a ways out from completing the previous RE titles, so 7 & 8 are not in the near future.
You guys may no like Suicide Squad but a good relationship between Warner and Sony are good news (in a scenario where MS uses all its money to finalice the Activision thing and Sony buy something big without looking bad)
Yisus f christ. Where are the first party GAMES!!
@Jaz007 I would sooo jump on Hitman 3. I skipped it in VR1 (and played the game on xb) since I never even got my VR1 adapter and the IQ was just too low for that game, but on VR2 I'm sold. Love that series.
VR doesn’t agree with my brain, eyeballs or wallet so pass on those.
But cool indies? They’re my jam more than most games these days so I’m down for that.
Can we be 3 for 3 on the big console manufacturers having a cool shadow drop? Xbox had Hi-Fi Rush and Switch had Metroid Prime Remastered, would be cool to see PS5 get an impressive shadow drop.
As always keeping expectations in check but also like always hoping for that golden nugget none of us were expecting. Unexpected golden nuggets are usually in bigger showcases but the last couple SoPs were a massive improvement so it could have a golden nugget. Most likely saving their golden nuggets for later in the year maybe. Too many golden nuggets in this comment
Really a good time to bring up MGS Rising Remastered (if it does exist)
Keeping my expectations low for now. SoP is more straightforward compared to Nintendo Direct so I'm not expecting any surprises (at least, not on the same level as a Nintendo Direct)
@Sam_ATLUS I'm also looking for some news on Stellar Blade. It's the only game with a release window this year I'm interested in on PS tbh (except for hfw dlc).
@Sakisa I'd love a good shadow drop! Ended up playing both the ones you mentioned on Switch and Xbox. Sooo good!
@NEStalgia Well, you could always watch the State of Play in theatre mode in your PSVR2
I'll watch but im not all that interested.
Maybe the psvr2 games I need somet to intice me to think about picking it up at some point.
But am I the only one who isn't that interested in suicide squad and still.wondering why Warner broa decided to green light 2 games with the same structure and not involve batman properly in either or to actually do what they are good at and give me a decent single player story driven adventure from batman or even superman or even the rumoured teenage mutant ninja turtles.
I'm just not interested in a team based co op game
@Beerheadgamer82 Mmmmm, juicy, juicy fried golden chicken nuggets. Thanks, I'm hungry now...
I hope there's Spider Man 2 news even though it says third party and Maybe News about Like A Dragon 8 or Gaiden even though Ishin just came out! lol
Expected the emphasis on PSVR 2 as it's releasing but yeah... best case scenario I can hope for here is something unannounced from the third party sector.
Wonder what the plans are for Insomniac doing VR games.
I watch it but I drop out when the Suicide Squad content starts, have no interest in that game.
It's like all of Sonys first party studios are behind the ball (besides Insomniac) on releasing games. They haven't announced a new first party game in over a year. ***** really sad.
@Ken_Kaniff Not really behind the ball, it's all about the timing and managing the optics. Most of the main studios just released something in the past few years and it takes years for modern AAA games to release. It was always going to be that after that initial wave of games there was going to be a long wait for the next real wave. Add in the focus on GaaS games and it might be a longer wait for the kinds of games we're waiting for. I expect a kind of empty to "not for us" several years before the latter part of the gen starts the good stuff again.
It's a cycle Nintendo fans have been used to for ages due to Nintendo's limited dev capacity (most of their games are the same teams as their other games, so when they're working on one, nobody's working on the other.) In the past we didn't deal with that as much from Sony with so many studios, when it took a year or two to turn around a new inFamous or GoW, but now with 5+ year dev cycles, it looks more like the Nintendo cycle of 2 good years followed by 2-3 empty years, then a glut all at once, etc.
I think XB will be kind of the same, it's been a bland few years, and then I think the next year or two i'll be a glut all at once, then again at the end of the gen.
@Turismo4GT I always knew that mode might someday come in handy!
Please let one of the third party reveals be an MGS remake, preferably 1 or 3.
Indie and third party announcements should be fun. Couldn't care less about Suicide Squad and I'm not buying a VR set in the foreseeable future, so I'll tune out during those bits.
I'll keep my expectations in check, but I'm hoping for some fun surprises with the third party announcements.
I'll catch the interesting reveals later. Don't give a toot about Suicide Squad. I liked Arkham, but I also like Batman. Same is not true for basically the rest of DC.
Hoping the 5 new VR games are updates. I'd love to see a Cyberpunk, Metro or Dishonored VR mode.
Got my shipping email and I think dpd have it!!! Finish work at 7pm tomorrow and I ain’t leaving the house for 4 days!! Bring it on sony
@Grumblevolcano What are the odds of HFW:BS news? 60 days and still no price. I'd like to think it's 50-50 it gets mentioned but then we still don't get a price.🤑
VR2 games from partners?
Half life Aleyx too much to hope for?
If that’s announced I’m on the VR bandwagon as I cancelled my pre order due to the mediocre games at release for it.
@rjejr Low chance, given what they've mentioned will be in the State of Play the only way Burning Shores would appear is if it has a VR mode.
Kinda interested in seeing the PSVR2 games but not so much for Suicide Squad since it's a live-service game.
@Hurblyburbly Half Life Alex and Hitman 3 built to take full advantage of PSVR2 would be amazing and solidly PSVR2 as a musta-have for me.
@Grumblevolcano "only way Burning Shores would appear is if it has a VR mode."
OMG you just HAD to plant that thought in my head going into this..... It is kinda weird though that it's an April release and they won't talk about it, price it, date it, or really acknowledge it exists.
@munstre 100%
Great for VR bandwagoners, not exciting at all for those hoping for any news or a road map for that other piece of kit we bought into that has largely been a cross Gen upscaler.
It's pretty crazy to take a step back and realize how little is on the horizon that has been announced. My biggest worry is that the reason for this lay in the fact that much of what Sony has cooking is a long drawn out attempt to break into the dying live service train of which only a few lame established games will ever sustain long term.
I have a feeling that unless you are into vr and watching some very late half hearted marketing on that front, or somehow think suicide squad looks good after the live service UI leaks,.... That this showcase may be the most underwhelming one in years. Which is already a very low bar.
I genuinely hope some gem comes from it but it won't likely be from Sony and I highly doubt we get any big new announcements aside from more cash grab rereleases perhaps from Square.
I hope I'm wrong though, for sure. Won't be wasting my time watching it when it goes live. We are way past fool me twice to get hyped by a Sony showcase.
Tchia release date would be most welcome
Bungie confirmed the Lightfall expansion release trailer will be an exclusive in the SoP. So that’s two minutes I’ll watch!
@NEStalgia Yea I guess I'm spoiled from the amazing PS4 years. Where we were getting two to three first party titles a year. I just figured with them buying all these studios the output would increase not decrease. You take this year for example we are only going to get Spiderman 2 at the end of this year from all of Sonys first party studios. Insomniac is really carrying Sony atm. This will be there third game this gen.
Pity no one is receiving their PSVR tomorrow due to Sony's call of the mountain codes cock up. That's a story waiting to be written outside of Reddit! Another shambolic launch.
@jackst do tell
Too early for a Stray II announcement, but still it'd be cool to hear something. Meow 🐱
I know I'm looking forward to seeing more of Suicide Squad, as I feel it's going to be a lot better than most people seem to think at the moment. It's probably good in a way there isn't much hype for it, could be a sleeper hit.
Always hyped to see what other games are coming, and PS events have been pretty good since I've started watching them 😁
Am I being a foolish optimist hoping that two of the games are Half-Life: Alyx and Astrobot VR 2?
@RudeAnimat0r see, I'm a bit like that, I'm really not fond of the DC heroes beyond Batman, but the villains, anti-heroes are at least a bit more interesting. So the fact this is about killing the Justice League makes it that much more interesting for me 😂
@KundaliniRising333 allegedly all of the codes for the call of the mountain bundles don't work in the UK, so Sony are waiting for replacement codes to be generated and then put in to all of the bundles before sending them out in the UK; rather than send them out wrong and email correct ones for fear of them being sold on for overseas use.
Sony's last State of Play was excellent (Resident Evil 4 reveal, Final Fantasy 16 trailer, Stellar Blade making a return and as a PS5 exclusive, etc.), so I have some hope for this one as well even though it will have no 1st party showings. I'm still not expecting a repeat of the last one since that was surprising, but I'm hopeful it won't be a dud like some of the previous ones were. Everything besides Suicide Squad getting roughly 30 minutes is at least somewhat promising.
@ShogunRok @Voltan Hopefully the rumors of a March State of Play are true, otherwise we might be waiting until Summer 2023 or September for a first party State of Play/showcase.
ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAAAAAIIIN!!!! WE ARE LEAVING THE STATION, FOLKS!!!! Please give me Astrobot!!!!
I know it's a long shot, but announcing Half-Life: Alyx after reviews are out could be a master stroke from Sony's marketing, as it would void the main point of contention among reviewers which was the weak launch lineup. Although I totally disagree with them.
Project Wingman would also be awesome (maybe AC7?). And Hitman is an easy bet, of course.
Wow, better not keep my hopes so high.
@jackst Fortunately the bundle rumour was not true Going to be hard to do a full days work tomorrow.
No real reason to show Spider-Man 2 on this one since it will probably open or close their rumored "big showcase" at the E3 season.
The Horizon Expansion on the other hand, needs to be shown asap.
Has to be HL Alyx.. it just has to be..
Well, they can't show any other comic book based game, otherwise it'll just make suicide squad look worse.
sounds like a letdown. psvr2 and suicide squad will hog the majority of the event. easy pass. i suppose we have to wait until spring to see what sony 1st party studios are cooking.
Hopefully Little Devil Inside gets a release date
Please add Australian times to these!!
We're all PAL friends together lol
I want a segment on Deathloop
I’ll probably skip this one, but will hope for some good third parties and indies. Just 0% interest in PSVR or Suicide Squad. Low enough interest in them to be actively disinterested in watching.
Would love to see Astrobot for PSVR2. Metal Gear would be rad. Would like to see RE7 make its way over to PSVR2 and would love to see RE4 be fully playable in VR. Either way, always happy to have a new State of Play!
Is it soon to expect more silent hill information about the games announced 4 months ago?
@hawk26 hoping they announce that's it will be a plus title like they did with stray.
I’m hoping from some Atlus/Vanillaware news but highly doubt it. I really don’t know what to expect hype-wise. But it did say “Game reveals” so there should be some good stuff sprinkled in the event.
I can usually tell within 15 seconds (frankly a lot less than that) whether or not I'm interested in a given game, and even a 2 or 3-minute trailer can far outlast its welcome. The demo walkthroughs that have held my attention over the years could be counted on one hand, and 15 minutes' worth will have a huge swath of viewers tuning out, ESPECIALLY if Suicide Squad mimics the quality of the vast majority of licensed titles. Most people watch these "Directs" for news regarding upcoming projects, and there is such a thing as "too much information" when it comes to game details. People want to get on to the next reveal.
I sure did like those Arkham games, so I haven’t given up hope on Suicide Squad completely. Surely Rocksteady can do better than Gotham Knights, yeah? Maybe? Probably? Please?
@Ken_Kaniff Yeah, ND being eternally slow to make anything plus all the delays haven't helped. Even with PS4 it took each studio a long time to get games out, but it's amplified so much, now. And we know a lot of the effort is going to the gaas games to some extent. Granted I'm personally hoping some is going into vr, too even though that holds back a lot of stuff. But other than insomniac, most of the new studios are support. Firesprite does pc ports and vr. Housemarque just launched returnal so they're years away. Bungie just does Bungie stuff. Bluepoint we don't know but they just released DS2 years ago. Ssm will be a few years. Just terrible gap timing.
Even with PS4, sp did only infamous and got. Ssm did....gow2018 only I think? Guerilla only had shadow fall and hzd. Roughly 1-2 games per studio per gen. Japan studios, much maligned, added to the roster. 2 knacks, gravity rush 2, tlg, plus astronomy vr. I think we're partially missing their output now, even if they were low sellers, they really boosted the launch calendar.
Forspoken being a dud and returnal being super nichei think makes things look worse. Square is doing the heavy lifting this year, and that's just sad 😂
Doesn't sound like there will be any major 3d party announcements outside VR. How long we will have to wait for Persona 6?
Would love some Hades 2 or Silksong
@SJBUK something seems up. There are a lot of polls going around of who ordered the bundle and hasn't had it shipped (myself included) and the numbers were over 90% last night! There's something fishy going on.
Armored Core 6 would be amazing. But I'll take Suicide Squad as long as it doesn't have a Gotham Knights vibe to it.
@jackst Damn, it looked like they were just late updating order status, gutted for you guys who've not had it shipped yet. I know we had a shipment window but you generally expect a preorder on day one.
Give us one exclusive title from From
@jackst
Same here (Sweden). My was shipped LATE yesterday so it should arrive tomorrow thursday. It was said to be sent so we would get them today but the seller Webbhallen f**ked up and tries to blame postal service but in truth they didn't turn it over to them until yesterday evening... Way to spoil a great release.
I have 8 games preinstalled but nothing to play them on, NOT happy at all atm but what can you do?!
An update on the full release date for the Final Fantasy remasters would be nice.
@KaijuKaiser Hmm a second theoretical State of Play could be late March or early April, and then we still get a showcase during Summer 2023 or September?
I hope that's the case, but will be keeping my expectations low.
Omg so excited for the Persona 6 reveal!
Epic great timing for an event.
@Grumblevolcano "the only way Burning Shores would appear is if it has a VR mode."
Well HCotM IS a PS VR2 game, so why wouldn't BS have a VR mode? 😉 Not exclusively, just a mode like some of the other games.
@NEStalgia "It is kinda weird though that it's an April release and they won't talk about it, price it, date it, or really acknowledge it exists."
I've been saying that for weeks, which has only lead to much mocking.🤷♂️ Though they did date it when they announced it in December, and the last we've heard of it, April 19th, <60 days away, but if you search the PS5 store, where it's an exclusive so why search anywhere else, you get nothing, nada, zilch, zip. 😝
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/search/burning%20shores
Sony is missing out on a lot of early pre-order $. 🤑
@rjejr in fairness the ps store search is completely broken. If you search for no man's sky it finds nothing and recommends anything but. It's an 8 year old game.
But for horizon BS (heh) or wouldn't have it's own page or would be dlc, but the page doesn't have a dlc section. I notice the game page mentions IAP. Maybe it won't be on the store and you have to buy it in the game? Weird.
Don't care about Suicide Squad or VR so this one isn't for me
@NEStalgia It's weird that the PS store has pages for "coming soon" games that are probably not coming soon, but not for HFW:BS. I never looked for NMS but that's truly weird if it's not there. Is that b/c it was so bad at release they took it down and never put it back up or was that Cyberpunk? 🤷♂️
You can filter by "Coming Soon" DLC on the website, haven't tried it on my PS5, and there are expansion passes there.
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/category/a00d4d61-f6bc-4a00-bb68-ff0bb43fcc33/1?ADD-ON_PACK=storeDisplayClassification
There are 3 pages of "Most Anticipated" games, 19 are listed as "Announced" w/ no info, only a page so you can add the game to your Wishlist. HFW:BS has nothing.
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/category/a7c97306-69bd-45cb-a44f-c9ffd9eaa7d3/1
If it isn't in the show this afternoon it kind of needs it's own soon. Skull & Bones has a page. 😝
Of course the capitalist in me thinks it's b/c it will be $20 if you purchased the PS5 version, physical or digital, but $30 if you purchased the PS4 version physical or digital, then upgraded for free on PS5 (don't think you can do it on the web) to the PS5 version. Sony must have records if you upgraded for free as you had to download a digital copy from their store, and it seems like something stupid they would do. 🤑
It is possible it's only in game like you say so people who bought the PS4 version don't see it on the store.
Or maybe Sony goes FULL BLOWN idiot and you can only buy it if you purchased the PS5 version, not upgraded for free to the PS5 version? Or they are waiting to announce "HFW:BS Complete Edition", but even Sony isn't stupid enough to make that the only way to get it, too many people spent $70 or $80 or $100 already on the game.
But I do think something bad is going on, otherwise why not give us the price? Occam's razor.
@rjejr Search is just broken because the whole PS store is just broken. NMS is there, it just doesn't turn up in search results. You don't search the PS store using PS store, you search using Google and click links to PS Store pages because if you use PS Store search it won't find anything
It's very possible that the real issue is "delay", the only thing saying April is a PS Blog entry from Guerilla. It may be that they're pushing it back and just haven't decided when/what yet.
I wouldn't doubt the whole upgrade pricing thing given Jimbo's way of doing things, but I still think that might actually get messy, to sell a game, sell a PS5 version for more, but allow free upgrades only because the world reminded them they promised they would before they suddenly changed it after a delay, only to then backdoor charge more on the DLC. Wouldn't put it past them, but, still messy. Plus they'd just charge $30 across the board because PS5 DLC is worth half what a full game used to cost obviously. I can't see them selling PS5 DLC for $20 TBH, and $40 looks like too much, so I'm thinking $30-35 for EVERYONE.
I'm not sure how physical upgrades worked, that's interesting. For digital buyers, you just buy the PS4 version on the store, then go back to the product page, refresh, and click the PS 5 upgrade and you're done. But for physical, yeah, I guess you'd need to do it on the console and couldn't do it in a browser.
But yeah, the game page specifically says it has IAP, and I can't think of any other IAP in the game, there's no currency or MTX, so I'm thinking the IAP is for the DLC. Which would be a first, and kind of ugly. And might mean they're gating DLC to a specific account so you can't run it on 2 accounts, MMO style, which would be super ugly. See, I thought of the one scenario even more insidious than yours!
I think you mean the "HFW: Complete BS Edition" with that last part
It may well have something to do with editions and the rumored "remaster" of HZD (seriously? does ANYONE need that? The game looks amazing already on PS5...) It's the only current first party game I care about even slightly and even I wouldn't buy it even on sale.
Could also be just that the garbage store can't actually handle a PS5-only DLC for a cross-gen game. Or the OS can't handle PS5-only DLC for a PS4 disc. that had a digital upgrade. Or....delay. And honestly I'm still leaning into delay because the DLC seems pretty ambitious. It's possible they break it out into a bigger stand-alone DLC to sell separately like First Light and Lost Legacy more than Frozen Wilds. If they do that it's probably delayed and $40-50, but is its own game in the store.
@NEStalgia "It's very possible that the real issue is "delay"
Delay never occurred to me, which is weird since I've been obsessed w/ "delays" since Reggie at E3 in 2007 said SSB was coming out "not next year, not next spring, but Dec 3rd", only for it to be delayed TWICE to Jan then Feb/March. 😝
So for 16 years I've been mad about delays, but since this was announced w/ the date, not month or season or quarter, date, several months in advance, I figured it was already like 95% done and it would be on the PS store to pre-order. 🤷♂️
So you may be right, but I still think it's something more insidious, b/c I'm me.
I suppose it's possible Sony is just keeping this under wraps b/c H:CotM is the big PS VR2 game so they want the focus on that, want people to spend $550 on an accessory rather than a $30 DLC, so once this SoP ends in a few hours Sony will announce a BS SoP in a week or 2. If it's any longer than that, I'll start thinking delay.
"HFW: Complete BS Edition"
If they screw PS4 owners of the game, well any more than they already have by not giving them the DLC, I'll be calling it that. 😂
