It never should have released in the state that it did, but credit where credit is due: Square Enix seems committed to improving Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition — and that's good to see. The remastered RPG has received another update on PS4, which once again promises to improve performance.
More specifically, this patch increases the frame rate cap to 60 frames-per-second in battle, which should make things much smoother. When the game first launched back in April of last year, it suffered from some woeful fps drops in combat; they were so bad that even just navigating the command menus could be a chore.
This new update follows on from a previous patch that released just last month. It's taken Square Enix close to a year to get Chrono Cross up to speed, but hey, better late than never!
This patch also features adjustments to Pip's stats and Element Grid settings (which will only make the slightest lick of sense if you're very familiar with the game). You can check out the full patch notes on the official website.

Hmmm... I wonder if similar improvements will be made to the Switch version, which is what I got.
Not that I need them; I beat the game at launch, and I find it to be perfectly fine and playable as is.
And the next patch is adding ray tracing I guess.
hmmm, maybe they're trying to get in our good graces in preperation for some related announcement...not that I'm holding my breath. I'm already quite content with this years.....content xD
@McBurn Most likely the team got moved onto another project too soon, and now they have the time to go back to it properly.
Better late than never I guess. I really need to go back to this now it's getting a bit of support.
I mean its great to be applaud, but honestly square and many other studios including some first party iterations, need to stop outsourcing half-baked remasters without even fully testing the final product for quality assurance prior to release. This remaster cash grab practice, along with games in general nearly always releasing unpolished is getting to the point of being slimy as F.
We still refer to bethesda as being the buggy game releaser, when now its everybody. Releasing games, we have to PAY for to play test for them, alongside monetization schemes, and gutted release day content in order to charge us for it later as dlc/season pass nonsense.
@OnceaThief A HD 2D remake has got to be on the agenda, right?
@KundaliniRising333 These have been my exact sentiments. Some games really needn't be touched, and if they are, do it with extreme pride and care. I got the whole remake/remade/remaster everything in sight during the height of the pandemic, but it feels old and tired now. If you're going to remake a classic, it better damn sure be phenomenal, or just don't touch it. Leave it the hell alone.
A remake would be more appropriate.
Memories of playing this on Dreamcast.
@Bunchesopuppies No you don't.
@NecroNomnom I thought for a moment they might be referring to Bleemcast, but the compatibility list says it's not playable.
@Browny the patch is out on switch, yes.
I'll start playing this soon as they're done patching.
