Ladies and gentlemen, we now live in a world where mainline Final Fantasy games are ready to be shipped months ahead of their release date. How times have changed!
Indeed, Final Fantasy XVI has gone gold, meaning that development is complete, and it's basically ready for public consumption. As alluded, this announcement is particularly impressive because Final Fantasy XVI doesn't launch until the 22nd June.
With that in mind, the team will likely continue polishing its action RPG until the big day arrives. After all, when it comes to modern gaming, the initial release of a project certainly isn't the end — not when you can make adjustments via updates.
It's also worth mentioning that Final Fantasy XVI has apparently been in a borderline complete state for a long time. All the way back in April of last year, producer Naoki Yoshida was saying that the game was in its "final stretch" of development, and that period seemingly continued through to 2023. In other words, the developer's been in the polishing phase for ages, suggesting that everything has gone rather smoothly following the disruption of the pandemic.

A Square Enix game not coming in at least a little hot? Never thought I'd see the day!
This game's going to polish up to a shinier state than Kratos' first party head, to a point where it'll hit that first party quality bar and be a Sony game in all but studio name. Consider me excited.
Three months before Final Fantasy 15's release the devs were probably still rewriting the script. Times have changed.
This is incredible progress. This game is going to be fantastic
Oh wow, this is impressive. Congrats to the team!
now working on the inevitable day one patch like every game now days
@trev666 Makes sense to use the extra time valuably.
guess this means a huge day1 patch.
bt we are 1 step closer
Yoshi-P runs a tight ship it seems.
The last time I was this hyped for a final fantasy game was probably X or XII.
I've already told my boss I'll be booking the week off work for it too 🤤
Remember when Cyberpunk went "gold" ahead of it's release?
But I'm confident in FF16
going Gold means nothing nowdays just means they are going to press the discs
Yoshi p is busy man he has get ready next patch in 14 now lol
So we should expect no bugs or crashes then........😂
@ShogunRok Given the state of DLC and content revisions well after release, I think it’s safe to they were also busy rewriting the script months after, too. 😂
In Yoshi P we trust!
Yoshi P runs a tight ship. Not a sh*te tip.
Excellent to see.
N.i.c.e. its cool that final fantasy 16 have gone gold already.more games is welcome.word up son
Excellent. So excited to play this in June
Mixed feelings on this. Happy that it’s development appears to be quite smooth. But worried that there will be little chance that for the next three months those discs will stay out of the hands of mischievous gamers who will be flooding the net with spoilers and early impressions. With the ire that the Microsoft contingent has that the game is exclusive to PS, I fear a TLoU2-styled pre-release spoilage could occur out of spite.
better not have any launch day issues or day one patches or will have egg on their faces.
I'm definitely excited for FF16 since I pre-ordered the standard edition a few weeks back. It's been one of my most anticipated games of this year.
This is astonishing! Hell they might have time for some DLC then. This is truly impressive work by Yoshi P and the Team. They deserve hefty bonuses!
If they’re gonna polish it until release day why not put back the date they “go gold”? They have plenty of time, and the later they go gold the smaller a day 1 patch will be.
@Nightcrawler71 I suppose it depends on production timelines and that sort of thing. They must have a good reason for going gold so early.
Now they can work on the inevitable DLC
@ShogunRok lol probably true but XV team gets too little credit for how they pulled together a game from scraps of a canned work;) they were also hit with “now you have to supporto PlayStation 4 Pro” 🤣 it came out about around the same time
@Feena Nah you're right, it's easy (and fun) to give FF15 a hard time but the fact it even released as a fairly enjoyable game is a miracle in itself.
@ShogunRok I still think FFXV is a great FF with many apparent flaws, but yea. The poor game went through literal dev hell and it shows. I still remember when they had promised no more delays and then at an event, they end it with a delay announcement
I still blame the higher ups' mismanagement more than either of the 2 dev teams' capabilities. Even if the latter team went on to make what is now known as forspoken lol
@Judal27 Yeah I think when a game's development cycle is as troubled as FF15's you've got to point fingers at management. No developer wants to make a bad game, but things can go wrong very quickly when the project's direction is a mess. It's like a domino effect.
By comparison, FF16 seems to have had a much more focused vision from the start, and it shows in how they've been able to pull it all together. The benefits of having good management with a clear vision that's actually achievable!
@DrGonzo kitase has been there as long as Sakaguchi. Kitase making that masterpiece 7 remake.
This is the only "PS only" game I'm hyped for this year, so I really hope it is good! Fingers crossed
Awesome! Can't wait. I've been carefully following a backlog plan and should be ready by then.
So no day one patch or a real small one.
@Feena true they kind of pulled off a miracle there.
@ShogunRok Oh man I remember those rumours. Probably true, signs are all over those trailers. Like the dogs who barely featured, etc.
I still love 15 though, warts and all.
Let's be honest, Squenix is pretty much a First Party Studio at this point. This way always going to release on time and it looks delightful!
Super excited. Also important to note that when a studio isn't also having to optimize it's games for PS4 it gives them more time to make it better.
@Corc11 that what been saying Sony should just make it official and just acquire square enix.
@UltimateOtaku91 @3Above You think there will be story DLC at some point?
Such a contrast to FFXV. Just recently went all in on a play through of XV. Played the main game and all the DLC throughout, watched the movie, anime, shorts and even read the Dawn of the future book. All in chronological order. I've got to say, when you include everything it's actually a pretty good Final fantasy world and story. But the way it was released was so broken and messy its no wonder it isn't highly regarded in the series
So glad to hear XVI has gone smoothly and hope the whole experience is tighter and more complete
@KidBoruto Well Final Fantasy 15 has DLC, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has DLC and Stranger of Paradise FF origin has DLC, so the last three games have had DLC so I'm going to assume this game will too. Especially even more so if the game is a success.
Almost 3 months before launch. They are expecting big sales.
@UltimateOtaku91 Fair point! I just hope the DLC is charged at a fair price, and worth the cost.
Too bad gold these days still means "in beta", well at least they have some time to make that day 1 patch...
@ShogunRok LMAO! Hilarious but probably true.
