Gamers can loosely be categorised into two broad groups: those who have accepted the radical, revolutionary game design teachings of auter developer Hidetaka Miyazaki (named to Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2023 list) into their hearts as the future of the medium, and those who haven't quite caught up yet.
All fun aside, key art from Elden Ring studio FromSoftware's next project, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, has emerged online, apparently pulled from the Microsoft Store via some Xbox tinkering. This is exciting because, as pundit Okami Games posits on Twitter, it indicates a release could be sooner than anticipated.
Of course, nothing is real until FromSoftware says it is. Still, factor in that recent rating in Taiwan and developers beginning to open up about the game, and it's entirely possible we will hear something more concrete soon. After all, it is meant to come out this year. We don't know about the rest of you, but a PS5-powered Armored Core, developed by a FromSoftware at the very height of its powers, is something we could go for right about now.

Xbox screenshots on push. I need to lie down š
Looks like a Transformer.
I know nothing about this franchise. Being an avid souls fan and a massive elden ring devotee would i enjoy this game?
@Northern_munkey No way to know yet if they've incorporated changes that will be familiar to souls players but, they did say that they're not really using souls as a reference on this. From past games, they're just completely different games. You may or may not like it, but I don't think a souls background helps much with it other than knowing From makes polished games that are true to their creative intent... But that's about the only relationship between the two .
Ac is more about building your mech loadouts and proving them in missions for success or fail.
Since you like what from does, it should be on your radar, but it's very much a mech series, at least so far, so probably don't jump in just because you like souls unless you know you like mech games too.
@Northern_munkey It's hard to say. I think if you go into it expecting Elden Ring or Dark Souls it might be jarring to get used to. We know that there will be elements from Souls, but to the extent, we don't really know.
Armored Core is like Need For Speed, but instead of racing cars, you are a mercenary mech suit pilot. You do missions, you get money, you upgrade your Core. The upgrades and customization...are extensive, and practically everything you slap on your mech will be visually represented on it. I think that's the fundamentals of Armored Core.
Personally, I don't think there's any chance that I'll dislike this game at all. I'm sure I'll love it. But I've played and enjoyed the previous Armored Core games.
I think a litmus test for you is: do you enjoy Sekiro? Because I think ACVI is going to be similar to Souls, but it it'll have much more of its own identity similar to Sekiro than Elden Ring.
@Constable_What @NEStalgia Does Armored Core have the difficulty level of a Souls game or is it ācreate your own difficultyā like Elden Ring or is it too different to really compare In one-to-one terms?
Iām guessing this is going to be revealed in an E3-esque fashion. Geoff Keighley likely scooped this one up as well as anything that has a vague āSummer 2023ā release dateā¦ that isnāt clearly linked to Sony or MS for their presentationsā¦ well, if Sony does have one. At this point Iām expecting the Sony showcase to be a āSpider-Man 2 State of Play.ā
@somnambulance AC doesn't really compare to what folks think of as a modern FromSoft game, at least not historically. They can be difficult, but not to the degree of a Souls style game, and when they do it's almost always because your build isn't optimized for the mission.
@somnambulance It's too different. They're pretty difficult, and a core part of the game is building your mech, so if you don't invest time into understand that mechanic you're going to have a harder time.
But I have no idea how VI will compare to the previous entries. Could be harder, could be easier.
@Constable_What @NEStalgia cheers for the info. It sounds interesting so i'll have a look š
I just want to see their art style with robotic stuff.
This is my most anticipated game ofā¦ the PS5 generation so far. BRING IT ON š„š„š„
@Northern_munkey I think you'll just f****ng buy it on release)))
That what I would do, because I'm a Soulsborne and Elden ring fan and also don't know s**t about Armored Core franchise.
It's Fromsoft. No further explanation required.
Nice shot of a mech. That chest piece is pretty mangled, I donāt think the pilot survived.
@somnambulance Like @GeneJacket said, I'd think of it maybe more like GT7, and the "CaRPG" aspect, where, if you have a car without the right build, you're going to be stomped no matter what you do, you have to tune and tweak the parts and the weight distribution etc etc to have a build that will smoke the race. Kind of the same thing with AC, but with guns. Big guns. Lots of big guns. You build your mech to be optimal for the mission, and how easy or hard the mission is comes down to how well you've built your mech for it. And you play missions to get more money to build your mech up. So structurally it's very much similar to the GT structure of racing to get cash to get parts and cars that perform better to win bigger races. Exept you blow stuff up instead of racing. You can spend as much or more time on the mech schematics as on the field.
@Loamy True enough, I thought we'd never see it again after the success of Souls!
I can't really see this game having top notch graphics. Those explosions, guns shots, destructible body is what this game will need. We'll see if modern FS can only make souls games.
@Blacksmith1985 š. Good to hear from you bud..hope you are all safe and well..
Still such a great surprise that this is even real, Iād thought they were done with this series years ago. The memories came flooding back when this was announced. Canāt wait!
@GeneJacket @Constable_What @NEStalgia very interestingā¦ a crossroads between Souls and GT sounds very intriguing to me. Iāve got to saw that thatās likely made me more interested in seeing what this title is about. I hope we get an in-depth look into this one before it launches. I definitely want to see more.
@somnambulance It's kind of funny, because the last time we got an AC game From was basically an unheard of B-tier developer, making niche games for uber-nerds, and now From is pretty much most influential dev of the decade and Miyazaki is Miyamoto-status. And they're making a new AC. Weird times!
For AC fans and mech game fans in general (Classic Mechwarrior, Starsiege, etc) this is a heck of a suddenly arriving game!
@Blacksmith1985 I would suggest looking at older AC titles before making that conclusion because AC is vastly different from Souls.
@Khayl That age rating has to be false, no way it's rated E10 correct?
@KidRyan It could be, but the series has always been rated T, so that rating is likely just a placeholder. Either way, AC has never been vulgar or even particularly violent, so an E10 rating wouldn't be terribly surprising.
@somnambulance I would not go in expecting much Souls influence. I'm sure it'll have elements, but they've stated that there was not a conscience decision to make AC more like a Souls game. There will likely be some of that in the systems, but I anticipate anyone going in expecting it to play like a Souls game is going to be disappointed.
@NEStalgia @GeneJacket I gotta be honest, you guys are getting me excited to see what this game is all about. I loved Elden Ring, but thatās because it made the Souls genre accessible to me and then bam! After beating Elden Ring, I could handle the genre no problem, but itās not my everything, you know? Seeing FromSoftware do things different than the tried and true Souls formula, Iām down for that. Iām looking forward to it.
@somnambulance To be fair, the Souls games were the big departure, as there were 13 Armored Core titles before Demon's Souls existed. This is From's OG baby (preceded only by King's Field), and as someone who doesn't particularly enjoy Souls games and Souls-likes, I'm hopeful that they stay true to what AC is.
@GeneJacket Man, I hope they stay true to what it is too, whatever it is (since Iāve never played it). Iāve been craving a solid mech experience for a long time and honestly wasnāt a fan of From til Elden Ring. This game is coming out at a perfect time for my interest to be piqued. It being something totally different than Souls sounds like exactly where Iād want From to go.
@GeneJacket I've never played an Armored Core game before, so don't know what to expect honestly lol.
@KidRyan They're pretty easy to explain. You start with a beginner mech, go on missions to earn money, then spend money to buy new parts and upgrade said mech. Missions are pretty linear, go in and destroy X number of enemies, or rescue a friendly, or kill one specific enemy mech, etc. No open world stuff, very minimal exploration, just straightforward "complete X" objective to finish a mission. Post game is mostly just the Arena, one-on-one fights with enemy mechs. It's all about stat balancing and building the most OP mech you can afford to.
Even robots kneel in From Software concept art.
