In what is undoubtedly the story of the day, developer FromSoftware has revealed its intention to release exciting new games more frequently. Now that sounds like something we can all get behind!
The Japanese studio, renowned for the complexity and depth of the worlds it creates, is currently hard at work on multiple projects. Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is launching sooner than any of us expected, on 25th August, and Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree appears to be coming along nicely, too. So it's somewhat surprising to hear the developer plans on kicking things up a notch, but considering the mainstream success of Elden Ring, perhaps it was inevitable.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Armored Core VI producer Yasuhiro Kitao commented on the studio's philosophy of keeping multiple pots on the stove, explaining: "This is an area we feel we've always strived to achieve: always making something new, always making something original, something that we find interesting and fun as players. So in this sense, really, nothing much has changed. We do develop multiple titles simultaneously; we do have several teams working on different projects. We hope to stagger our releases and bring something new and exciting at hopefully not-so-long intervals going forward."
FromSoftware has certainly shown they can be versatile, with just Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring alone being wildly diverse in setting, tone, and mechanics but united by those same guiding mechanics that spawned an entire cottage industry of imitators. Let's just hope they don't bite off more than they can chew.
What do you think, would you like to see more and varied games out of FromSoftware, or is their rarity part of the mystique? Take your time, and don't rush on your way to the comments section below.

Please, no Elden Ring gacha on phones. It'd be cool if they returned to King's Field, though.
@Matroska hell yes to a return to kings field!!
Although I think the souls games are just an evolution of that series pushed out to third person.
I would love if they dove back into fps though. Played the heck out of kings field 2
Firstly, fromsoft needs to hire tech experts and update their engine and ensure they have a foundation for the future. Their tired UI needs to go as well. If they can get that in check, they really could push the envelope and their designs to a whole new Level.
More Souls games I love them all. Armored core looks meh to me, but it's only the trailer so far and might just not be for me. Maybe keep leaning into the authors of fantasy books to help create lore. My vote, ask wordsmith Patrick Rothfuss for a new world building story line and craft around that.
I like that From Soft is one of the few devs that isn't pushing out constant sequels like most of Sony's developers.
I love the From Software formula so I’m all in on more games from them and more often!
Loving Armored Core 6 gameplay, but we will probably just get more souls stuff. That genre Sells very well. Not my kind of game but to each their own.
@KundaliniRising333 i never tried kings field but i agree 100% with a new engine being required. I dont know why they dont just use decima or ue5 as they seem to be the best engines out there at the mo.
I'd love to see them take a stab at other genres besides Souls and mecha.
@Nepp67 god of war 2 and horizon 2 are all that come to mind in this generation.
@Grimwood if you want to be that reductive, aren’t 80% of video games reaction tests? Maybe you should try gardening or something.
Bloodborne II please! Come on Sony/From Software - make it happen ✌️🍻
King's Field V please!
Approximately one major game release per year since Demon's Souls, plus (major) DLC and some minor stuff. Seems pretty prolific already. Maintaining a similar schedule with today's increased production time seems like it would be enough to keep them busy. And tbh, I don't think the quote promises much more.
I hope this is not investors/leadership getting greedy and pushing for short-term profits.
N.i.c.e. thats good to hear more video games is always welcome.from software is one of the best studios.word up son
I'd prefer to see them tackle a VR game. Perhaps a roguelike in the same vein as Chalice Dungeons but in first person.
And yeah I know they made Deracine already, but that was a small puzzle game and while it was alright it didn't really play to From's strengths, imo.
@Konks agreed. Honestly I’m just happy they threw us a bone with AC VI. I get it that they are going to capitalize on what sells and that I’m technically in the minority here. It reminds me of how annoyed I was at Kojima constantly making Metal Gear Solid games, which I’m not a fan of at all, when all I wanted was Zone of the Enders 3
I’m just so happy to see AC VI coming out finally. I was obsessed with those games in my teen years.
But it’s exciting that they have different teams working on different projects, and hopefully they’ll continue to experiment and push themselves, artistically speaking.
@KundaliniRising333 Somehow I missed King’s Field, but sounds like you loved it? Seems like a nobrainer to release a new one with the power of the PSVR2, yeah? And someone get From signed up to use the Decima engine already!
@Nepp67 So we didn't have Dark Souls 123? and Dark Souls Open world that is Elden Ring?
Please no more Elden ring… give us Bloodborne 2!! Last week!!
@Nepp67 @tameshiyaku oh how Xbox gamers would love a sequel.. to anything 😭😭
Well this is absolutely splendid to hear. Like many devs back in the day fromsoft was pretty various but then they had to stick to souls games for like a decade and I'm so tired of those. And I'm sure they and other devs want to do dfferent things but in this industry its too risky to go down that path unfortunately. I wish em success with all their new IP in the future
@Nepp67 but theyve still been doing the same souls games for years. Sekiro probs being the one that stands out the most
@ShadowofSparta "Maybe you should try gardening or something." Pikmin 4 then? 😂
Excellent. As long as they don’t compromise quality for quantity I’ll be the happiest gamer on earth 🤗
@KundaliniRising333 There is nothing wrong with the UI in the Souls/Sekiro/Elden. It’s easy to navigate and functional and always has been.
@Arnna really? Nothing they could do to improve a UI they've been using for over a decade?
Ok. I disagree and find it very archaic and cumbersome, but to each their own.
What about their game engine. Still OK playing what has largely been the same game with different models and item names? At the very least can you agree there is room for improvement on that front?
I just want a Bloodborne sequel or remaster. It was my first From game so I’d love to explore that world with better graphics.
Erm, I'm not sure if I should be happy about it. I mean sure, I want to play great games but I also don't want a gaming studio to push past its (mainly the staff's) limits.
Just look at the downfall of Bioware.
New Tenchu, please! It's been a long time.
@RonnieL Feel better about yourself and your self esteem?
