Final Fantasy 16’s Collector’s Edition is pretty cool – it’s also completely sold out. Including a statue of the giant titan-like Eikons Ifrit and Phoenix, as well as a set of pins, a steelbook case, and a cloth map, the entire bundle retails for £329.99/$349.99. While you can join a waiting list on Square Enix’s online store to get notified when more become available, it’s likely this limited edition is now long gone.
Which makes it a perfect opportunity for scalpers. eBay listings are already appearing selling the item at double its MSRP, with some being bold enough to demand up to £999.99. It’s unlikely anyone will actually pay these wild fees – especially when the resellers don’t even have the stock in hand yet – but it just shows how frustrating these limited time items can be. Square Enix has been particularly egregious with the availability of this stuff: pre-orders for the Anniversary Edition of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster are also being flogged for way over $1,200 right now.
All in all, you’re going to have to be pretty desperate (and rich) to cough this kind of cash up. If you didn’t get a pre-order for Final Fantasy 16’s Collector’s Edition, we’d recommend just forgetting it exists and moving on with your life. Yes, that steelbook and statue would look great on your shelf – but do you really need it? Not for over double its MSRP you don’t!

And this is exactly why these limited-run editions are as scarce and as premium-priced as they are. You get to either cough up $350 to Square, or at least double that to a scalper, and both options put many prospective buyers right out of the running. It sucks to see this, every single time.
Limited editions are basically investments now. Hugely priced in the first place and go even higher resale, it's mostly just investors selling to investors at this point.
The regular edition 1-6 being made limited is a new low though. I wont be buying those games if it doesn't get a general physical release.
Pretty crazy how some people can forego getting an actual job and just making a living reselling things to people desperate enough to have the thing.
Everyone who are a fan of FF or FFXVI, would have already pre-ordered it by now.
Pre-order was available ever since december 2022, and now it is just 2 months away from launch.
Even on the square enix site, you wouldn't even need to pay to pre-order, only until it gets shipped.
So, the only people who really really wants it, only has been excited after watching the latest State of Play.
Even without the scalpers that price is insane, that's not far off from the PS5 digital edition price.
My opinion, but I think most modern collectors editions are trash. Full of of tacky whack, & don't hold their value at all.
If I were going to spend a huge amount on something gaming, I'd be after say a complete copy of Symphony Of The Night, or a Panasonic Q (just off top of my head).
I mean... It's plastic moulded by a machine in a factory in China. You're not missing much. The original scalpers are the publishers trying to upsell mass produced pieces of tat as if they're individual works of art.
I don’t care much for anything “deluxe” but this crap needs to end. Scalpers are seriously the worst.
more trash nobody knows what do with.
@Porco it is "collectors"... simple as that.

@JohnSmitheroo What the hell? Is the racism really necessary?
On topic, I don't see the appeal of collectors editions. Do people actually use the extra tat that comes with them? Or does it just sit on a shelf collecting dust?
@JohnSmitheroo How are things on Planet Racist?
@JohnSmitheroo seriously, dude? Racism in this time and age?
Digital for me. I just want to play the game.
Collectors editions? No thanks - prefer to gradually 'collect' related stuff over the years after having played and fallen in love with the game first. Do this all the time - gradually amass artbooks, soundtracks etc. - don't like the idea of buying a pre-determined collection of stuff in one go that several other people have exact replicas of.
Posts like this do nothing to prevent it. Just the title was enough.
Well if dumb people wouldn't feed these scalpers they wouldn't do it.
As much as you shouldn't feed the scalpers, if you're that stupid...
@Thaun_ The pixel collection of Final Fantasy from which I didn't even know it was available.
The base version should be available in the store.
And not everyone is checking everything all the time I just preordered the €99 version and thats good enough. Im a big fan but not blindly loyal at every price.
@Jey887 Isnt that the same as collecting paintings it's just on the wal where you what h them?
The most amusing thing is that as of reading this article (16/04) you can still buy the bloody thing from the 'UK' website for rrp.
Am I tempted? Hell no.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah. People pay a stupid amount for overpriced paintings too.
It was over priced anyways
I'll go with digital as usual.
Who even wants this crap in the first place?
The art on the box is very reminiscent of Q Hayashida. I wonder if it is indeed her, who drew it.
Oh no, capitalism strikes again.
Ugh… I made the terrible mistake of waiting to purchase. I literally had the thing in my cart, decided to wait a day, and now it “sold out”. 😭
Scalpers only exist because they know there are mugs out there that will pay.
Welp that's disgusting I stopped buying physical years ago so I'm good 👍 🙂
@BeerIsAwesome There is on E-bay. You can report them for price gouging.
I have done it on quite a few videogame related items that had not been released. Quite a few actually got taken down, and I have seen 2 or 3 accounts banned from the site because of it.
I rather buy the physical copie of final fantasy 16 instead.word up son
Water is also wet. I stopped being surprised by this ages ago.
Well funny that... Still available on square Enix store to pre order
I thought you had to have the product in hand within a set number of days of the listing? Also as usual scalpers are terrible people.
