Sony has announced it'll have an official PS5 console bundle to go alongside the release of Final Fantasy XVI on 22nd June 2023. A standard disc-based PS5 system will include a download code for the Square Enix RPG, but the console won't sport any special decals or artwork. This is simply a normal PS5 boxed up with a PS Store key for Final Fantasy XVI. The cardboard box it all sits inside is at least emblazoned with some art, though. Check it out below.
This is one of the few official PS5 console bundles Sony has committed to since the console's launch in late 2020, with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War Ragnarok among the others to receive the special treatment. Pre-orders for the Final Fantasy XVI PS5 console bundle will go live on 4th May 2023, available from PS Direct. There's also going to be a limited edition PS5 controller and set of console covers, but only Japan is getting them.

Sony please spend like $40 more dollars adding neat and quirky FFXVI imagery to the console itself I swear I’ll spend another $500+ on another ps5 in that case
It's starting to be surprising that custom side panels aren't yet a thing from Sony, beyond the single-colored ones you can buy separately. I expected bundles like this to start featuring artwork on the side panels by now.
Maybe they think too many people put the PS5 on its side and hide it away...?
@RobN
Side panels on God of war, Spiderman, Last of us, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne and so on would sell out in minutes if sold.
Im also shocked they havent made any yet.
Wait till you guys see what Japan and Asia are getting instead, custom console panels and a special edition controller. If we don't get them here I think I might need to head over to Play Asia for them!
@Neverwild For just a second I thought you were telling me there WERE side panels with artwork for all those games, and I'd missed them.
Surely the side panels aren't too expensive to churn out on their own, but if they're selling a lot of plain, single-colored panels at (checks site) $55/each, then they're already printing money. Maybe they want sell out of those before they introduce more, hoping people will buy multiple sets. I don't get it.
Missed opportunity to have customized plates
It's definitely a huge missed opportunity to not have custom side panels for the console, other than the basic colors they already offer. If they had some custom ones for God of War or Horizon, I probably would have bought some already.
@RobN they can’t even be bothered to color their buttons anymore. pro-consumer wants dont matter to this sony
If the bundle says it includes an ff game but actually includes a dmc game, and that's ok, if the PS5 it includes is actually an Xbox, is that also ok? 🧐
@RobN Seriously. They're high profit margin items. Sony is just leaving money on the table, if you ask me.
Xbox 360 had the face plates and I know people who bought half a dozen of those over the system's lifespan.
There's a whole cottage industry right now of supplying covers (I myself own a set). The market is there. Why Sony hasn't been pumping these out is beyond my comprehension.
@NEStalgia You dolt. Can't you read. That clearly says Rated M for mature. Contains swearing and sick action. That's all that matters if you wanna be a mega hit.
@RobN It's shocking that they can't even supply enough black plates. I was lucky to get them on release but my mates have been able to to get them since
@MasterVGuides @Nepp67 @Neverwild @RobN Do unofficial custom side panels with artwork/designs exist somewhere?
Disc based console... with a download code. Nothing related to Final Fantasy on either the console or the controller.
Is there a reason Sony don't want to build more hype for this game? Too much hype already, or what?
I thought this was the most significant release in the console's history (taking into account the pandemic impact and GT7 getting off to a rough start). Sony Europe should have signed up for that controller they have in Japan... missed opportunity.
Are they going to do this “console with disc drive but game included as download” thing with every big release now? I already have a PS5, but as a big FF fan I would buy them separately and pay more because I actually want to have the game. I want to touch it and add it to the others. This would be a good solution for the digital PS5, not the one with an actual disc drive.
That's a cool bundle!
Do these bundles come with the games pre-installed? Cuz that'd be neat too.
Beautiful art.
