Insomniac Games, the first-party studio responsible for iconic PS5 titles like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, has reportedly grown to employ over 500 developers.
The increased headcount was spotted on the company's LinkedIn page by eagle-eyed Redditors, which are currently split between Insomniac's three current projects, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel's Wolverine, and a mysterious multiplayer project we know little about. For comparison, Naughty Dog, long considered the first amongst equals within PlayStations' first-party family, is estimated to have around 750 employees.
With the increased staff, it's possible the studio will hit the very stringent deadline for Wolverine, which Microsoft, at least, claims will be getting a 2023 release. If anyone can do it, after all, it's Insomniac. What do you think of the studio, which has been fruitful indeed and thus is now multiplying? Let us know in the comments section below.

Insomniac do knock out quality games more regularly than naughty dog do with less staff
Hopefully this equates to far more quality side content and more Fleshed out systems in their two upcoming titles, and maybe breaking away from the comic book trap with other projects as well.
As long as we still get Ratchet and Clank games I'll be happy, would be nice if they made a Sly Cooper or Jak and Daxter game since nobody else is doing anything about those series 😭
More Ratchet & Clank games on PS5, please.
To me insomniac are currently the best developer around so this is great news. I'm hoping that multiplayer project is either Ratchet and clank related or a Sunset Overdrive online game.
@GorosBat Well Sucker punch own Sly Cooper and naughty dog own Jak and Daxter so I doubt it would be hard for Insomniac to do them as their all under Sony's ownership but I'd rather the original studios make them.
The kings of Performance mode plus RT.
is it really an exclusive dev because it's games end up on pc?
@Anti-Matter Don't bet on another R&C this gen. It's probably not a big seller, at least not compared to Spider Man and God of War. Have a feeling Wolverine will be a big hit, unless they screw it hard.
I feel like Sony growing they’re best studios to be the size of a small publishers is great. Even though I want Sony to buy a publisher eventually Sony will be perfectly fine if they don’t.
@Anti-Matter Yes! Please. I need another Ratchet and Clank. Rift Apart was amazing.
@Sil_Am I don't think Ratchet and Clank has the budget like Spider Man or God of War so the money it has make is much smaller.
If anyone deserves to have such a high amount of devs, it is Insomniac Games. These guys have put of more games than Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Guerrila Games combined.
More Ratchet, Rivet and Clank please. More Ratchet and Clank for sure, but a Rivet spin-off would be very welcome. With a new Resistance thrown in too.
Best Studio Sony has. Been carrying the whole company this generation.
@trev666 I think I'd still prefer Naughty Dog not knocking out titles on a regular. I still don't own a single Insomniac game.
Hopefully they’re making some VR games
Wolverine this year simply isnt happening. Only chance of seeing the character is if Insomniac are going for a joint universe and he shows up in a side mission in Spiderman to introduce him
@BusyOlf I'm pretty sure Spidey will receive the proper VR treatment (Firesprite?), so don't put your plastic bags too far from the PS5.
@UltimateOtaku91 IIRC a job post for that multiplayer project mentioned it was a new IP
It's great to see them continuing to thrive as they are amongst the best in the business now. Like others have said though, hopefully this also means we will see more Ratchet & Clank this generation. They probably went a bit overboard during the PS3 generation, but only having a remake of the original last gen was quite disappointing. Rift Apart was great and setup several options for future games and it would be a shame to not see any of it come to be this generation. I love a great Marvel game as much as the next person, especially Spider-Man and now Wolverine, but not if Ratchet & Clank gets kicked to the curb for the most part each generation now.
Wolverine is not coming this year. Any thought of that happening can be thrown out. Just because Microsoft said something incredibly dumb, which can be added to the long list of dumb things they've said about exclusives during this whole Activision buyout fiasco, doesn't mean there was ever a chance. They are not releasing two Marvel games within a couple of months of each other.
No interest in the Marvel titles, so hopefully the increase in size brings us more R&C and potentially other things. They’re a fantastic developer. Have always loved R&C.
Insomniac is a team full of wizards I swear.
Why would anyone think Wolverine would launch this year? They aren’t going to release spider man in September and then Wolverine in November. I’d be shocked if we even get it by next spring.
ND have been my most touted devs for years, mainly due to Uncharted but surely Insomniac are top dogs nowadays.. absolute quality every single time
@RatmCky yeah exactly man. Wolverine will be sept 24
I want a resistance collection.or a new one.those ps3 resistance games are amazing.word up son
@trev666
They make more, but I don't think they can make a game of the generation game like santa monica, guerrilla and ND imo.
@Rob_230 Was about to say this. No way would they cannibalize sales of Spider-Man 2 by releasing Wolverine the same year (never mind the crunch of working on two AAA games at the same time).
Even without the added hirings, Insomniac has to be one of the most efficient and well-managed development studios out there, in order to put out games that quickly without sacrificing quality.
At least, I hope that’s the case. The only other explanation would be required crunch, and that would be disheartening. Though I believe I’ve read reports saying that they didn’t crunch on some of their most recent games, and if that’s the case, that is some development wizardry on the go there.
@Anti-Matter I'd love them to put together an in-house team and just pump out sequels alongside their Marvel stuff.
Fun to play, good characters, I miss them
@UltimateOtaku91 Insomniac has some truly great animators. It's one thing to have a state of the art performance capture system like Naughty Dog. It's another to animate a game like Rift Apart
@Impossibilium They've just always been a multiple project studio. Santa Monica and naughty dog have always worked on one project at a time (although at least ND is a two project studio now. Not sure about SSM) ... And it shows with all the little details and animations that are completely unnecessary but appreciated nonetheless. It's two different approaches and I don't think one is better than the other.
@Ali_Benji I guess there is only one exclusive then and thats Nintendo.
@MasterChiefWiggum @KilloWertz @RatmCky @Rob_230 100% agreed, Microsoft lied without a doubt or was misinformed.
As for the idea of Wolverine being teased in Spider-Man 2, I could see that being the big post-credit scene.
I doubt we'll get to play as him at all, but would love to be proven wrong.
