At the time of writing this article, many of you will have only just finished watching the Final Fantasy XVI State of Play broadcast live — but for those who haven't, and for those who simply want to watch it all again, PlayStation has uploaded the full video in glorious 4K resolution. The action RPG already looked ridiculous on stream — and now it looks downright jaw-dropping.
If you missed the live event, allow us to quickly recap what was shown. We basically got 25 minutes of (edited) gameplay footage, which covered combat, exploration, and RPG elements. It's essentially everything that we've been told about Final Fantasy XVI up until this point, smashed together into one big presentation. If you haven't been keeping up with the game, it's definitely worth watching.

We think Final Fantasy XVI continues to look stunning. We had it pegged as a potential Game of the Year candidate after our hands on with an unfinished build back in February, and now we can't wait to dive into the full release in June.
How are your hype levels holding up? Try not to summon an Eikon in the comments section below.

All those beautiful pixels! 🤤
@GrimReaper
Ugh another movie where characters are sitting in a room talking. Ugh another song that's made up of instruments and sound vibrations. Ugh another book that's composed of nothing but typed words.
I thought it looked kinda terrible, as beautiful as it was, in the live stream so glad to see them put this up so quick. I’ll watch it with my wife tonight. AFTER we watch the Zelda trailer, which would basically look like a stop motion Colorform set after this in 4k.

Big Ralphie Ineson doing VO work in this has confirmed my purchase . Shagger!
Goty right there. Sorry spiderman, re4 and zelda.
As pretty much a life long Final Fantasy fan, I'm pumped!
I spent 10 years waiting for Versus 13 (15) to finally come out and that was a major disappointment. This is looking to be the total opposite.
It looks really good.the graphics and gameplay looks really good.more ps5 games is always welcome.word up son
Good news!!! it’s the voice from the Dacia adverts
Too western..Overly flashy, floating numbers..RPG element bare bones, travelling to the same areas over and over for side quests and hunts..?
@Jedihillis 13 was great
Hard pass. Nothing about this game excites me, I’m sorry to say. Wake me when Rebirth is ready!
Yeah as if I wasn't already sold before, this sells it even further. Every bit of the 25 minute video looked amazing!
Hmmm, as much as I want to love this, I'm not super stoked. It's just kind of busy. Way too flashy. The thing I loved about old FF games was the spells that were unique and were used more sparingly, which made them feel special. Everything in this is non-stop crazy, hyperactive magical extravaganza that's more distracting than anything else. Half the time, you can't even tell what's going on. Spells look kind of the same, just different colors. Everything looks amazing, but in a kind of boring, samey way. When everything is flashy nothing feels extra cool. Too many numbers on screen in the same hyper active way. When you landed a big hit in past FF it was cool to see higher numbers and get excited about it. But all the numbers on the screen here is just clutter and there's so much of it and it doesn't feel rewarding. Enemy life bars, hit points popping up never ending every which way, hyper active move sets, overly flashy particle effects. All going on at the same time.It's like they were afraid they lose the ADHD crowd. Why do I have a feeling you can just hold down the attack button and Clive will just zip around and swing every which way hyper actively? It all looks very polished, but I just can't help but feel kind of disappointed. Will still give it a go.
@nomither6
13 was ok.
Had a really fun battle system and pretty spectacular visuals for its era (unfortunately I played it on the gimped Xbox 360 version with horribly encoded FMVs, but the real time graphics shined) along with a great soundtrack. Blinded by Light is my second favorite FF battle theme ever after FFIV’s boss fight theme.
But it had a ton of issues. The main plot was some nonsense, even by Final Fantasy’s standards. The characters were pretty dull or in the case of Snow completely insufferable. The linearity of the first 2/3rds of the game was a bit overkill; FF games are usually pretty linear experiences which is great but FFXIII took it way too far. It did get better in the post-game though.
I’d say the plot and the characters were the worst part of the experience for me. I was mega hyped for the game but once I finished it I walked away pretty disappointed. Except for the music and battle system, both of which were stellar.
So I’ve always ranked it as ok. It’s not the dumpster fire that the internet always tried to make it out to be, but it’s also on the weaker side of the entire FF franchise.
@Mikey856
I’m so jealous of you Europeans when it comes to cars.
All we get here in the states are lame full size trucks and cross over SUVs. The cool cars are all horribly overpriced Corvettes and Mustang GTs that are out of everyone’s price ranges.
I’m a fan of good fuel efficient compact cars that handle nicely and have a bit of a sporting flair to them. And most importantly have a manual transmission. They are becoming an endangered species here. People still look at my 2018 Civic Si crazy because it’s a six speed on a relatively modern car.
It would fit in so much better in Europe.
Never played any FF games before. This might be the first one. Looks great to me. I prefer western style rpgs so it's looks just fine to me
This is an incredibly petty nitpick but I haven't liked the look of the UI in a Final Fantasy game for well over a decade now.
The last time Final Fantasy games had a really standout cohesive art style was FFX and FFXII. Ever since then they've had quite a plastic-y production line aspect that other AAA games don't.
@OrtadragoonX ha yeah but then our roads are a lot different. Where I live in the moorlands it’s all hills and not a lot of long flat roads so manuals are preferred. Your car would be great fun on our local B-roads lol
On this full on action rpg style they’ve gone for I have to say it looks like they’ve absolutely nailed it. I’m old school and grew up with 7/8/9 so you get where I’m coming from. It would be amazing if they could implement both battle systems so we could have e the choice. Still I’m very impressed by what they’ve pulled off here. Runs like water 💦
Gonna watch later. Must play for me!!

@Ear_wiG Fair enough man. I'm excited for both games, but if I have to be brutally honest with you. FFVIIR behaves more of an RPG than 16.
@Tatarimokke In that case, it's a solid starting point for you to jump into 👌🏼
@Gilgamax305 That’s why I’m excited for Rebirth; loved the combat system in Remake, and sounds like the party AI will be much improved.
That said, I hope everyone who’s excited for XVI has a lot of fun with the game!
@OrtadragoonX those reasons you said are the reason i think it’s great
FF13 was the first FF i played
@nomither6
My first FF was FF Tactics.
You always love your first lol.
I chose not to watch, want my first playthrough to be as blind as possible.
@GodofCapcom @StrawberryWave Definitely a strong year for gaming! I can only image what 2024 will look like.
