For many, the highlight of last week's PlayStation Showcase was the action-packed gameplay trailer for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This hotly anticipated sequel is looking fantastic — we saw new abilities and features, we got some big teasers for where the story's going, and of course, it's visually gorgeous. While it looks as though it's pretty much ready to roll, Insomniac Games has confirmed that what we saw isn't the final build of the game.
There's been a lot of hand-wringing among fans, spreading FUD among themselves about the PS5 exclusive's graphics. Many are pointing to the gameplay demo's water splashes and other minor assets as proof that this is a downgrade on previous entries in the series. Fortunately, community director James Stevenson has been able to confirm that the gameplay footage wasn't from a finalised version.
Responding to a concerned fan's question, Stevenson shared a single animated GIF:
Obviously, the game still has a few months at least before it's ready for prime time, and even though Spidey 2 is looking great already, polish is almost always left until the final stages of development. In other words, the next time we see it, it'll no doubt look even better, and closer to the end product we'll all be playing later this year.

I read something online about the water splashes and chuckled.
Feels like going full circle.
Something something something puddles.
Something something something dark side.
Something something something complete.
Realistically what we saw at the showcase would've been recorded months ago. These things are planned so far in advance and sat on for ages
Imagine my shock 🤯
Seeing the looks last gen comments do the rounds again. Sorry but even if it looked last gen (looked fine to me) the gameplay and set pieces were amazing. Oh no the water splashes aren't looking good, who the hell cares im trying not to slam into everything while chasing down the baddies XD
I had to sit down to read this news and take a moment for myself... Still can't believe this is true.
Lol I thinks that's pretty obvious until the game goes gold.
Spreading fud means something so incredibly filthy in Scotland that I can’t take this seriously.
I couldn't get over how fast the traversal was. That ssd is really paying off
I made a joke at the time about the puddles in the warehouse but i too have seen complaints about 'ps4 graphics,' and how poor the water allegedly looked.
Some people need to touch grass. I thought it looked fantastic and who cares so long as its fun to play anyway.
I must be in the minority because I thought the graphics were a notable step up from the first game (not played Miles Morales). That being said I wouldn't expect things to change much in the next few months before launch so I would imagine what we saw will pretty much be what we get.
sorry but it looked like more of the same to me fine but nothing mind blowing. same gameplay as before when you done one fight in Spiderman everything is the same for the rest of the game gets boring
story was good, game play repetitive
Clearly folks learned nothing from the Puddlegate nonsense.
My only issue with the demo was they didn't show enough Symbiote Suit gameplay it was so sick seeing Peter kicking ass using it being extremely badass but then it switched to Miles and the other 90% was focused on him like Insomniac the Symbiote/Venom stuff is what most want to see
The latest and frankly stupid piece of criticism I've seen is 're-using web-swinging animations bad", because no sequel in the history of video game sequels has ever re-used animations before... but we live in a day and age where people cry over missing puddles, and Doctor's & Dieticians can lose their job if they even utter the word 'fat' or 'obese'.
@nessisonett I had never thought about F.U.D. = fud like that before, and thanks to you I can never un-see it, thanks for that 😅
@Shepherd_Tallon **Looks back nostalgically at Puddlegate**
The final build/gameplay will be so completely different and nothing like the exact same thing as every other open world ever before!!11
I mean, just think of those beyond exciting QTE chase sequences. At the moment as generic and boring as 20 years before, but that final build, oh my!
The game is between 4 to 6 months away who is thinking its finished
Its not going to look much different then the trailer. Probably not noticeable.
@durxll123
It’ll be cleaned up a good bit.
But the texture quality and Ray tracing in the trailer will be what we get in the final game.
Frankly to me it’s a decent, but not enormous, step up from Miles Morales on PS5. The raytracing looked better and was applied to the water reflections. That was something they didn’t do in Miles Morales. They used SSR for the water in the older game.
Yeah, people find the dumbest stuff to complain about.
“It looks too much like the first one”. You’d complain too if it looked too different and nothing like the first one gameplay wise.
“The graphics look last gen”. Yes, because you are streaming them on a device that fits in your hand with a screen size to match. They looked fine when I watched it in my 55” 4K OLED.
Some people are just bandwagon bitching for fake internet points because that’s how they gauge the meaning in their lives.
@Martijn87 I ran outside, dropped to my knees in disbelief and reached up to the sky and yelled “Daaaaaaamn you Insomniac, damn you all to hell!” Like in the original Planet of the Apes.
No complaints here besides the Symbiote Suit, though new screenshots of that Suit have come out to make me feel relieved.
