You would have expected Firewall Ultra to be front and centre at the recent PS Showcase – especially when you consider it’s the only first-party project currently announced for PSVR2. Alas, it appears Sony saved the online FPS for, er, the Future Games Show, where community manager – and ex-YouTuber – Frank Marm popped up to share an update on the upcoming release.
To be fair, there was no new footage on display here – in fact, it’s the exact same gameplay that we saw during our hands on demo earlier in the year. Nevertheless, you could be forgiven for expecting the Japanese giant to make a bigger deal of this title – especially considering its predecessor was one of the more popular titles on PSVR. We suppose it’s more proof that this company is utterly unpredictable these days…

Sony is worth 120 billion so maybe just maybe you shouldn't question their 4d chess marketing.
@Triumph741 Oh for sure, they definitely know what they're doing better than I do!
Sometimes I find some of their decisions head-scratching, but it's all good!
So there's this, Spiderman 2 release date reveal and the FF7 P2 trailer that sony decided not to include in its show. I just don't get it lol.
It was like Sony wasn't planning on having a showcase until later this year but then got pressured to do so and rushed out what they gave us. I still fully expect another showcase in October/November.
@Triumph741 Then again one could argue that they may have better value if they made better marketing or that lack of marketing might hurt the consumer confidence with the brand in the long run.
No doubt they must have a reason for doing what they’re doing, might be marketing, might be lack of things to show or it might be to keep things more low profile during the MS Activision saga. But no matter the reason from the outside things look rather hard to understand.
@UltimateOtaku91 I dont. I actually think they have nothing thats far along enough to be shown. They didnt even have a second of actual Gameplay for the GaaS Games they announced
It is bizarre, I guess it is so when gamers say "we don't want VR in our showcases" Sony can turned round and say it wasn't us, it was them.
Hard to come to any other conclusion.
Now if Sony only they had the same distaste for GaaS.
@RunGMhx 120b is great, but Microsoft is simply on another level. Say whatever you want about Redfall, but numbers speak louder than reviews.
@Magnus_Selene Well Bend haven't announced anything since days gone and it's been 4 years, it's been 3 years since ghost of tsushima so Sucker Punch should be a decent way into development of their next game, same with TLOU 2 it's been 3 years so naughty dogs next game along with Factions should have atleast have some gameplay ready to show. Haven have albeit a sneaky closed beta invitation for Fairgame$ so surely there's gameplay of that available. Then there's the multitude of third party games we know about such as Stellar Blade, Little Devil Inside, Pragmata, Death Stranding 2 and Rise of the Ronin.
In 4/5 months time they should have enough ready for a show that's much closer to what we expect from Sony.
@UltimateOtaku91 They only release started development in 2021 tho so nah, not this year. Ghost of Sushi also was only in Mid 2020 + they worked on the Remaster and DLC afterwards. Factions 2 is seemingly in Dev hell too and who knows how far along their new IP is. AAAA Sony Games take 4-5 years nowadays sadly lol. They have just way too few SP Game Studios for a steady flow of First Party Games. Closing some of those few didnt help either.
Save some announcements for the show with the bigger and wider audience…sounds pretty smart to me.
I'm amazed Sony even managed to announce PSVR2 is available to buy.
You can say they are ”unpredictable”, but you can also describe the marketing department as incompetent, tonedeaf and borderline hypekillers.
@UltimateOtaku91 also, Bluepoint’s new IP is in development since the release of Demons Soul in 2020.
@Triumph741 So because they’re a big company you can’t question their extremely odd decisions? That’s interesting logic. I think regardless of how big/little a company is, they’re filling capable of making dumb decisions. Xbox one launch is a prime example.
@Triumph741 well when there’s nothing else to download what you supposed to do. Would it be fair to say Sonys first party studios are in a perfect storm of games not being quite ready etc, I remember the start of PS3 gen and there were morsels now and again until eventually a huge glut of unbelievable games. 🤞
I think it's pretty clear why the corporate strategists made that Sony showcase what it was.
The messaging was basically: like it or not, we put 80% of our future planning into one waning and unpopular game design scheme in the hopes that a few turn into recurring predation. Oh that one multi-player game you actually were looking forward to? Sorry, that was put on the back burner because it was deemed not predatory enough.
But hey look, another iterative spider boy game. Oh and fret not, some3rd party stuff still cares. So there's that. 👍
@UltimateOtaku91 Ask me this, would you be writing a comment about spider man 2 in this article, if Sony have reveal all of the details in their showcase? The answer is no. An that why they didn't release all of the details. They are spacing it out so they keep themselves in the news. Now will they have a surprise announcement before or after Xbox show, good money would say yes, last of us 3 trailer or the multiplayer game reveal perhaps.
@Dr_ENT But probably only really got going once Sony brought them and demon souls was completed.
Theres nothing quite as incompetent as human incompetence
@TrickyDicky99 I'd say that they've sent it out to die and they'll quickly move on to some other gadget that'll sadly flop
@Powerplay94 yes but 2023 has hardly been a glut has it
