PSVR2 is enjoying a great couple of days, and it’s been topped off by word that the acclaimed Wanderer will be remade for Sony’s next-gen headset. This virtual reality classic will feature new gameplay and mechanics when it arrives on PS5 in 2024, including the ability to “swim, jump, crouch, climb, zipline, and swing your way through time”.
Executive producer Samantha Ramlu explained: “By harnessing cutting edge PSVR2 haptic technology, you can indulge in an unparalleled level of immersion with proximity and context-sensitive haptics, finely tuned to enhance your experience to the fullest extent possible.”
She added: “Discover rich worlds, encounter heart-pounding action and solve mind-bending puzzles as you rewrite the past to reshape the future, finding yourself thrust headfirst into thrilling stories from history in an epic time travel adventure like no other.”
The trailer embedded shows a pretty substantial graphical upgrade, but it’s all the new gameplay opportunities that truly stick out. We can’t help but wonder why Sony has decided to save this announcement for the PS Blog today considering it probably would have gone down well during its recent PS Showcase. Nevertheless, the announcement is the main thing, and the game’s looking great.

Any PSVR2 game with a release date of '2024' is an automatic OOF
@Triumph741 Why?
@get2sammyb You make a console that's worth 500 dollars and you do whatever you must to have a steady supply of big games available.
You make basically a second console that's worth another 500 bucks that requires the original console and that you can't use on PC, and you don't make sure that there is a steady supply of big games available?
Doesn't seem like a good idea. I am sure that you are making a lot of money from this website so you don't care about the money you used to buy this device, but 90% of users are unimpressed. I made that number up, but it's probably true.
Fantastic. Great game. Hopefully I would have had time to work my way through more of the existing catalogue by the time this is out. A bit stuck on The Last Clockwinder at the moment.
@Triumph741
90% of users are incredibly impressed and cannot believe the huge number of games available. The largest number of games available at the launch of any platform ever in fact. The rest are liars or whiners. I made that up, but it’s probably true.
Looks very nice.
I'm definitely intrigued.
@get2sammyb
It's like we were saying a few weeks ago - third party will make PSVR2. It won't be first party titles.
Very few of my favourite PS1 games were published by Sony. They provided the platform, and the rest came after.
@thefourfoldroot1 The problem with your post is that the selection of games and roadmap is a recipe for disappointing sales.
@Triumph741
Honestly not sure what you mean, you seem to inhabit a different version of reality to the rest of us. What number of games do you require at launch and how many more games than have been announced as releasing soon could you possible want? You baffle me.
Pixel Ripped 1978 just released today, Hubris next week and Synapse a couple of weeks later. These are just games I personally want and remember.
@Triumph741 I still don't get your point. Obviously we want new games coming out for PSVR2 in 2023, but there's nothing wrong with them announcing games for 2024 as well.
In fact, isn't it a good thing that developers are going to continue supporting it into next year and beyond?
I think you're just looking for criticism. The game looks really good.
@Triumph741 It’s not a console, it an accessory. And one that has been supported with a steady supply of games in the 113 days since launch.
@thefourfoldroot1 Actually you baffle me right now. The PS5 is a closed of system with a lot of limitations. it lives and dies by the big hitter games like COD, FIFA and to a lesser the extend the ~2 SP AAA game that Sony releases annually. The PSVR2 doubles the limitations, doubles the price and you are happy with less big games on the horizon? You live in a different reality.
@get2sammyb What exactly is the endgoal of the PSVR2? To be even more niche than the PSVR1? To leave no footprint on the medium? You can't possibly expect millions of people to look at the price tag, the roadmap and decide to invest.
@Hoodie718 Number of games doesn't mean anything. COD, FIFA, Last Of Us is what sells, not indie and AA stuff.
@Triumph741 As someone who is enjoying playing a number of games on my PSVR2, it means something to me.
@Triumph741 The end goal is for people to buy it and enjoy it, no?
I get there are plenty of criticisms and roadblocks for the hardware, and we haven't ignored any of them on this site, but there's nothing wrong with a potentially good game being announced for the hardware, as is the case here!
@Hoodie718 How can there be people in 2023 who still don't realize that people who are active on forum sites are the minority of users. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo would go all out of business if they catered to us
@Triumph741
You play your COD and FIFAs if you wish, I’ll keep playing phenomenal and immersive VR.
You seem more concerned with sales numbers than good games, and so just ignore great games because you think it won’t have mass appeal. That’s very strange. Are you an investor or a gamer?
As long as it sells enough to keep getting the occasional first party game and all of the games from other systems too, then I’m happy. And it’s selling better than the PSVR1 did at this point in its life, so all is good in the world.
I’m looking forward to this game even if Mainstream Martin / Mandy only wants the next FIFA or COD ported.
@get2sammyb Maybe if there was more noise out there Sony would put more effort into their VR division so it can sprint instead of limp until the PS6 is out.
@thefourfoldroot1 You don't get COD and FIFA because God of War and Last of Us are so successful. It's actually the opposite. If the PSVR2 had massive titles to pump the numbers up that would allow studios to get the greenlight to start working on AAA games for the device just like there are many studios releasing big SP games for the regular consoles. It's really not rocket science.
@Triumph741
Honest question. Do you have PSVR2? Do you inhabit VR games generally? Because you seem to think translating games of the size and type we have in pancake gaming to VR would be a good thing. But it wouldn’t.
I’m not saying larger games like Skyrim VR don’t work, but VR is generally better for shorter play sessions and, being more experiential, shorter but cheaper games that you can play one after the other to inhabit multiple worlds.
Now I happen to prefer this in pancake gaming too. I much prefer AA to AAA games, as an increasing number of people do, but I prefer it doubly so in VR.
@Triumph741 Ok, since I guess we’re playing armchair executive here: VR is inherently niche because of the expense and the somewhat isolating/disorienting experience of playing it. CoD and FIFA sell to broad range of people who, as you pointed out, are not exactly gaming enthusiasts but really enjoy those franchises. Neither of which are published by Sony. I’m not convinced that even if Sony paid Activision and EA millions of dollars to develop CoD and FIFA that those would sell enough headsets to make it worthwhile. And those users would probably not turn around and buy many other games, which is where Sony actually makes their money.
AAA games that are exclusive to VR are just not coming. AAA games cost literal hundreds of millions of dollars to make. The VR market is not nearly big enough to support that. Sony has smartly worked to bring some excellent hybrid games like RE8 and GT7 to the platform. I’m afraid your goals are just not realistic. No wonder you seem so frustrated.
PSVR2 an accessory that gives PS5 a unique selling proposition. It supports the PS ecosystem overall. That’s all it really needs to do.
You’re all thinking what I’m thinking right now looking at that crowbar picture shot?
One of my favorite PSVR games. Will definitely jump back into this.
@thefourfoldroot1 I only have Quest 2 and I am frustrated by both Meta and Sony about how weak their commitment to VR is. If you continue doing the bare minimum you won't get the number of people you want over the hump. Just compare the titles that are coming to the PS5 and to the PSVR2. Now realize that the latter is costs twice as much and you can't connect it to a PC.
@Hoodie718 With that mentality VR will never grow. You are shooting yourself in the foot right at the start of the race. People won't simply use whatever you make. You need to earn their money and time.
@Triumph741
I took the liberty of reading a page of your posts.
Yeah, your dislike of smaller and linear games is clear, your dislike for indies as somehow providing an excuse for a lack of innovation among the larger developers is clear.
As such, I’m not surprised you dislike VR games or are frustrated by their scope, the only game you praise at all is Starfield, and if you think we are going to get games of that size and scope in VR you are going to be disappointed (NMS aside perhaps).
When the day comes that most games are made with hybrid in mind you might be happy but, until then, maybe you should open your mind to other types of games? Honestly, I probably would have had your opinion 15 years ago, but the AAA gaming market is just full of repetitive dross. Thank god for VR.
@Triumph741 Sorry, I just don’t think VR can be as mainstream as you want it to be. But I really appreciate the awesome experiences I’ve had in PSVR2, like No Mans Sky, RE8, and GT7 all basically fully-featured and incredibly immersive in VR. Plus all the fun, more casual experiences like Synth Riders, Walkabout Golf, and Pistol Whip. And more always coming! It’s a great supplement to flat gaming for me.
@thefourfoldroot1 I have enjoyed many types of games throughought my life, but enough is enough. Starfield, Red Dead 2 are the types of games that people should simp for not indie titles. There are plenty of non indie, open world games that are awful like AC and FC. It has nothing to with simply scope, but ambition and creativity.
@Hoodie718 Those types of games are always welcome, but they won't turn the PSVR2 into a must own device that will push VR forward. I just don't understand why you are okay with stagnation. We must constantly demand bigger and better games that offer less and less restrictions.
@Triumph741
For me those games do make the PSVR2 a must own device. Which is why I own and am loving it.
And no, we do not need to constantly demand bigger, many games are too big and bloated already, and better is subjective.
And that is not a “simp” for indies, it’s an honest declaration of my gaming preferences.
I do agree creativity is the thing. Which is why VR is so much better than pancake gaming for me at the moment. But, of course, stagnation is innately bad, so we will be looking for games to keep developing.
In the few months it’s been out now though, so far, so very very good.
(Also, and this is not a criticism, but it is “fewer and fewer restrictions” not “less and less” - just a little annoyance of mine).
Where did this came from!! whislist right now! My kind of game... It seems PSVR2 is getting some love after all... I'm only using it for GT7 really, I've to yet play RE Village, only went through the tutorial.
@Triumph741 I think a lot of gamers hate the idea of VR competing with flat, which seems to be what you’re advocating. AAA game development is already so resource-intensive. Fragmenting the market seems like a terrible idea. And personally I don’t want to play any 70-hour campaigns with a headset on my face.
@MattSilverado
Try Red Matter 2. Seriously.
@thefourfoldroot1 yes, thanks for the recommendation. Thing is I've nearly no time to play... So I'm waiting for a sale 😅... I got RE village for $20. I've so many games on the backlog 🙈...
@MattSilverado
Me too, I get maybe an hour a night if I’m lucky. Sucks being an adult, but at least it means I never have to feel like there aren’t enough games.
@thefourfoldroot1 that's right. Also it happens to me that I don't have the patience to learn a complex game. I've started demon's souls because it was a time sink 🤣
@MattSilverado
Patience or energy, I feel ya. I just last night got to a slightly more complicated “puzzle” in The Last Clockwinder and turned it off because the effort of thinking at 11pm is now too much for me, lol.
@Triumph741 nice number you pulled out of thin air. I can only speak for myself. As a PSVR2 owner, I wish I had the time to play every game I've bought or that has come out and looks interesting to me.
Another re-release..........hopefully theres going to plenty of new puzzles and areas to make it worthwhile to double dip.
With all these re releases that I orginally enjoyed on PSVR1.......I dont want to look back in the experiences as early access version.
Arashi too......
Im guessing Sairento will be another that will probably remastered.
@Burntbreadman Nah, man. Hellsweeper VR is coming. Takes that Sairento gameplay to the next level.
@thefourfoldroot1 Red Matter 2 on PSVR2 is stellar!
@Triumph741 90% of readers are unimpressed with your needlessly negative comment and groundless speculation. I made that number up, but it's probably true.
The PSVR2 has an incredibly diverse and solid catalog of games already available, with some fantastic games coming soon, as well as this incredibly exciting remaster/rebuild of one of the best PSVR1/PCVR games ever. This is great news. Honestly, if anything, 90% of the PSVR2 users I talk to love the current catalog and are excited for the roadmap of games to come! The PSVR1 only had 600-ish games, and we already have about 100 games with roughly 100 currently in development. We're very much on track to match or surpass the PSVR1 in terms of library. And despite those numbers being rough, not 100% precise, I didn't make them up.
@thefourfoldroot1 Oh man, it's so hard for me to squeeze in non-fitness VR time 😅 because I usually get a bit sweaty while playing games, and I don't want that if I've already showered, so I have to try to fit VR in earlier in the day BEFORE my pre-dinner evening workout, and it's just so hard. I usually am relegated to getting in a single round of Walkabout Mini Golf before bed, because I can do that without sweating too much 😅
@naruball Oh man, I feel that! I have SO MANY PSVR2 games I want to play, and I don't think I have enough VR time in a month to play them. At least Pistol Whip, despite being what I'm using for exercise atm, is still super gameified and fun. You genuinely feel like John Wick while playing it 😍
@CinemaNaut42 Nah. Lame system all around
@CinemaNaut42
Lol, I wouldn’t know about that, I play VR sitting with room scale mode on. Fortunately PSVR2 is very flexible like that. The only games I have were I’d need to stand and be active for the full experience are Pistol Whip and Beat Saber. Which is why I don’t play them much.
@Triumph741 lmao I see you don't even have any madeup numbers to prove that point 😘
@thefourfoldroot1 oh man, I JUST discovered Pistol Whip and it's absolutely amazing! It makes me feel like John Wick while getting exercise. I do love that PSVR2 has at least a solid handful of games meant to be played seated! GT7 and Tetris Effect are amazing, and I loved the demo for Moss so I'm absolutely going to play both Moss and Moss Book II. I cannot stand snap turn or smooth turn, I turn with my body when I can, but I respect anybody who can play roomscale games seated like that because I cannot 😅
@CinemaNaut42
Moss and moss 2 are great. Well recommended. Still missing an Astro Bot though.
I can’t play with smooth turning on most games yet. Always play snap turning, that seems to be OK for me.
Luckily no motion sickness for me at all. I did suffer on PRVR1 but it seems to be somehow not a thing on VR2 for me. Unless I’m smooth turning that is.
@thefourfoldroot1 I REALLY hope that Team Asobi is working on an Astrobot game for PSVR2! It would be so sad if they weren't at least porting the PSVR1 AstroBot game with updated controls. It's frustrating not having that as a confirmed part of Sony's roadmap going forward.
I tried snap turning before and hated it, but I'm not a huge fan of smooth turning either, I have found, so maybe I'll give it a go.
@CinemaNaut42
I’m sure they are, would be madness not to make use of that IP and critical reception.
I wouldn’t be surprised to also see some type of CGI film from Sony.
Snap turning is much better for me. Your brain readily starts viewing it as natural too, as if you are just turning incredibly fast. It also removes the issue of motion blurring, especially with reprojected games, which makes them look a lot better.
