In sad news for fans of horror games generally, and Evil Dead: The Game specifically, developer Boss Team Games and publisher Saber Interactive have announced that they will no longer "pursue the development of new content".
Saber Interactive broke the news to the Evil Dead community in a short message: "Today, we have made the decision not to pursue the development of new content for Evil Dead: The Game. We will keep the servers up for the foreseeable future and address any major issues that arise." It was also revealed that plans for the Nintendo Switch version of the game had similarly been scrapped.
It's been a monstrous year for video games, so you would be forgiven for forgetting that Evil Dead: The Game only launched in February of this year, so this revelation does come as something of a surprise. We quite enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of the title back then, but we haven't checked back in in a while. Perhaps we weren't the only ones.
Are you surprised by Evil Dead: The Game's relatively short shelf life? If you've played recently, what's the multiplayer scene been like lately? Let us know in the comments section below.

I think its support was as long as the average horror survival game. No surprise at all.
I don't know why devs bother to announce a version of the game for the switch anymore. They almost never comes to fruition...and in the case of Mortal Kombat 1, that's probably for good reason.
Are there too many asymmetrical horror games out for them to all remain sustainable?
And is there a need for specific franchise games when Dead by Daylight already has all the horror icons.
Why make a game at considerable cost I'd imagine, knowing that it's probably only going to have a 6 month shelf life. When are companies going to realise that people obviously don't like these types of games much, hence why they all go to the wall within a year, maybe two at a push. Or is that the strategy? That actually the immediate gains from the popularity makes the outlay back, plus a small profit, so after that it doesn't matter what happens to it?
Me and my friends played this game just last night. I prefer it over Dead By Daylight.
Shame but i'm not shocked sadly.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre servers spotted shaking nervously in the corner..
@AndyKazama I would say yes there is need, because as much I loved DbD and played it for 200+ hours I had to stop because I could no longer handle the sheer incompetence of behaviour studios.
Few years later I fancy playing evil dead click on it. Purchase license expired or some kak if this was offline I would of bought it , digital big no no for me.
What a waste of cool horror licenses, churning out these multiplayer titles with zero shelf life. Why not make a great single player Evil Dead survival horror game instead?
@Oxy agreed, these games are 2 a penny now ,not very often they last the course.
Dang. I was really hoping for some Maggot Mommy action in an Evil Dead Rise map
Well damn. I left the game on match making mode for two hours after it was released on PS PLUS essential and no one connected. Yea, we knew this would happen
