Considering shared universes are all the rage these days, many fans were left to wonder whether a meeting between Spider-Man and Wolverine might be possible in the Insomniac-Verse. Well, fear not, true believers, as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 director Brian Intihar has officially set the record straight.
In an interview with Kinda Funny, host Greg Miller asked Intihar whether the upcoming Wolverine game and Marvel's Spider-Man series take place in the same universe. Intihar replied, "They're all 1048." 1048 refers to a particular iteration of the Marvel universe, confirming they exist in the same continuity.

When asked why Wolverine didn't appear or wasn't referenced in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (or lend a hand during the calamity that befell New York City), Intihar explained that:
"There was a decision not to do it… I think for us, we wanted to let that team cook, and who knows what the future holds, but right now, let's let them do their thing."
Are you surprised by this confirmation, or was it obviously always going to be the case? Let us know what you think Insomniac has in store for us next in the comments section below.

That's honestly a part in the Spiderman games I've just never liked. The fact that the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and even Dr. Strange are in the same universe and in the same state and yet they are nowhere to be found when something as bad as Venom is there? Hell why is the U.S. army not involved at this point?
I’m fine with this as long as they don’t beat us over the head with it right out the gate. Let the Wolverine game stand on its own, no more than say a fleeting reference to anything regarding the larger Marvel world. Then maybe expanding into a Wolverine-adjacent side quest in Spider-Man 3 could be some cool connective tissue!
I have really high hopes for Wolverine…if it’s anything like Spider-Man 2 then it’ll be a 10/10 game easily.. here I am still waiting on a proper SuperMan Game
i just hope everyone in his game isn’t over the top friendly. i enjoy spider-man 2 much more than 1 , but damn the world is like a PBS kids show , everyone is so unrealistically TOO friendly , feels like i’m playing a early childhood game at times .
@WolfyTn they should really take advice from Web of Shadows instead of SM2 in my opinion
@nomither6 Hope not as the writing for WoS was bloody awful and felt like a product for a teen edgelord.
They do actually reference Wolverine with a skin for Miles.
@DennisReynolds well i wasnt talking about writing.
It never ceases to amaze me how people on the internet will just say the wildest things with absolute conviction.
Web of Shadows(PS3) Metacritic 68, lifetime sales ~260k
Spider-Man 2(PS5) metacritic 90, one day sales 2.5M.
Insomniac Dev team Meeting:
“Yeah guys I was thinking that we could make our game in a similar vein to our wildly successful, critically loved, universally praised internally developed game series set in the same universe buuuut I was thinking last night in the shower there’s this old rubbish spider-man game from 15 years ago that absolutely no one bought and everybody thought was complete garbage that we could totally base our game on instead. Any questions?”
@nomither6 Then what? Other then combat the game does nothing right and while the combat is good it wouldn't fit a more grounded character like Wolverine.
@ChrisDeku For some reason WoS has a fanbase who legit think it was a good SM game when in actual fact its only beating by SM3 and TASM2 as the worst open world Spidey game. I think its the Shadow The Hedgehog effect where they enjoyed it as kids and have nostalgia rose tinted bias not realising that kids are more open to playing trash if its edgy and is based on something they like.
@ChrisDeku lol, do game reviews matter or not? sometimes they do sometimes they dont, gamers are always all over the place with them. who cares, just play it and you decide.
some of my fav games are rated low, & i said they could look into web of shadows and take some ideas, since y'know wolverine was in that game
@DennisReynolds edgelord > cringelord
i like the newer spiderman games BETTER THAN WEB OF SHADOWS mind you, but IN MY OPINION, the games are often cringe with how corny they can be. people have different tastes - some people like edgy, some people like corny. i never even said web of shadows is a GOOD spiderman neither, these are all presumptions and jumping to conclusions that people here at pushsquare love to do! but it is a decent spider-man game and i like it, despite it being around a 6 for me.
SM2 (2023)
Shattered dimensions
Ultimate Spider-Man
SM2 (2004)
Spider-Man PS1
Web Of Shadows
are my personal favorite games, im sorry that i can have mediocre games as favorites - maybe its something else that i really like about them or appreciate. in this case - THE EDGINESS , yea i love it.
How about instead of them taking ideas from other older games they instead take them from decades worth of comics or better yet, come up with their own?
@tehKAMI sure why not? my suggestion was only an opinion.
@Nepp67 It was already stated that the Avengers was on the West coast. Fantastic Four doesn’t exist “yet”. Doctor Strange doesn’t deal with the non magical stuff…
@NinjaNicky You can already forget about it being bloody and violent. The game has be sellable to kids.
As for Spiderman ripping a turret off an armoured car but also needs multiple attacks to floor a random thug... It stated several times in the comics that he holds back his punches.
@nomither6 Overreaction much when my comment was talking about the WoS fanbase and not you specifically. Curious what exactly is cringe about the Insomniac games?
So is wolverine take place in new york or a different city.either way Marvel's wolverine is going to be amazing.word up son
I wonder who's gonna be in the wolverine game what is the time place 🤔 like there are so many questions I mean what about deadpool
Based on the trailer from a while ago, I think the game's location will be Madripoor.
Maybe that's the game's explanation for why he didn't help in NY.
The place is an island too, which makes sense in open world games.
@DennisReynolds how over the top & unrealistically friendly everyone is - especially in new york of all places?! lol! , some of the side missions like screwball, the quips (yea i know it’s part of spider-man) are cheesy in a bad way , forced stealth missions and MJ missions still being a thing but this time she’s thor with a taser, too many emotional segments/ times to be sad to tug at peoples hearts, miles dialogue and awful writing - the man’s like 17/18 years old but he uses this 12 year old sounding voice on purpose and it irks me along with his amateur dialogue, typical bland orchestra music for a soundtrack,
although i’m not sure if ultimate spider-man’s music is orchestra because that game had a great soundtrack …but i can’t recall any badass music from either marvels spider-man game
@Nepp67 Your questions are totally valid, but honestly that's just kinda comics. Characters only cross over if the writers want it to happen. Otherwise everyone is just busy with their own stuff. It's definitely crazy to imagine that all the other superheroes are dealing with equal levels of threats at the same time, but nope, that just a Monday in the Marvel universe.
@ChrisDeku I loved Web of Shadows* and those other Acti Spider-man games... but you are 100% spot on. Bonus points for the humour.
* Caveat: We were starved of any decent superhero games back in the day until Arkham, Spiderman and a few others raised the bar. They likely don't hold up as well now.
@Nepp67 Agreed not seeing the Army, Avengers or others especially at the end of the game when the whole city goes to hell was a bit weird. But it's also a problem all comics have had. At the end of the day if you can suspend your disbelief that a guy can get bitten by a radioactive spider and get super powers, and look cool wearing spandex, then you should be able to suspend our disbelief here.
Well that sucks.....
I'm personally surprise there no easter eggs for the Wolverine game, at least none yet discovered anyway.
