Longtime producer Yosuke Saito says the NieR series will continue as long as auteur creator Yoko Taro draws breath, which is likely to hearten legions of adoring 2B fans.
As reported by Japanese outlet 4gamer, Saito commented during the G-STAR 2023 event in South Korea while giving a presentation about the making of NieR: Automata. However, Saito stressed that circumstances prevented them from releasing another entry anytime soon.
Intriguingly, Saito suggested that he and Taro were working on another non-NieR-related project, which he'd like to discuss sometime in 2024. Taro is confirmed to be working on smartphone game 404 Game Re:set, so this is presumably something as-yet unannounced.
What do you hope to see from Yoko Taro and co, and where do you think the NieR series goes next? Gain sentience and rail against fate in the comments section below.

Nier: Automata is easily one of the best games I’ve played, as a creator Yoko Taro fills his games with interesting concepts in story, gameplay and structure. I just really hope this mobile game isn’t critical to the story, and the next entry isn’t live-service
Unpopular opinion: It's not Yoko Taro that made Nier Automata great but Platinum's mastercrafted gameplay. Thing is will they ever return to the franchise? If not I doubt I will bother return for the sequel.
@Arisen The original Nier was just as good before Automata. Coming from a PS3 owner.
Cool.more games is welcome.word up son
Nice I guess. Automata was nice, but the first Nier was just fine.
This is his 3rd or so Mobile game since Automata launched. So frustrating he keeps working on annoying gacha games instead of console experiences after the massive success of Automata.
I tried his previous gacha game when it released in the states SinOAlice or whatever....it was neat for like a week.
NieR Automata is one of two games I've platted twice. Absolutely brilliants, semented in my top 5, probably forever. Would love more from the world of NieR.
I really love Automata, it's an absolutely fantastic game.
Early 2017 was a special time, with both Gravity Rush 2 and Nier Automata releasing within a month of each other, and both such great games that still hold a special place in my heart.
@OnceaThief Thats right.
I just started with the Nier replicant remake because I love Automata so much. I'd love to see more Nier games.
