Update: As suggested, the playable demo for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is available to download now on PS5 and PS4. Just in case you haven't seen them, the action platformer is getting some really good reviews — so it's probably worth checking out the aforementioned demo for yourself!
Original Story: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is out next week (on the 18th), but it looks like a demo for the game is dropping today, 11th January, on PS5 and PS4. That's according to the reliable PlayStation Game Size account on Twitter, which suggests a bite-sized portion of the game will be available for players, presumably once reviews go live. In a follow-up, the account suggests that progress will not carry over to the full game, and the demo won't be time-restricted.
Ubisoft, it would seem, is feeling confident, and we can see why, judging from what we've been shown so far. If you missed it, The Lost Crown will wall-run at an eye-melting 120fps in 4K on PS5, with PS4 Pro offering 60fps gameplay in 4K, and the standard PS4 edition still managing a respectable 60fps in 1080p.

I’m excited for this game even though I haven’t played a Prince of Persia game since my old computer back in the 90s. Yeah, I’m that old.
@FanCFeast I'm with you although at 51 I consider myself in my prime. I'll play the demo and see what it's like as I may surprise myself. The last Prince of persia game I played was back on the ps3 and it was that cell shaded one which I still don't know if I really enjoyed or not.
This game even seems to run at 60fps at native res on Switch. Probably visually downgraded a bit, but still.
I really hope people got the kneejerk racist backlash out of their systems and buy and appreciate this for the remarkable product it appears to be.
Good, time to get hands-on... see if it's worth 15 euros for a month of Ubisoft+
Sweet, interested in the game so a demo is perfect!
Demos are always nice, so I'll give this one a go. I'm pretty optimistic about this game, movement and combat look really good from the previews I've seen.

Good news, I'm cautiously optimistic for this, did used to love PoP games back in the day.
If a demo shows up I'll be sure to give it a go.
I assume this will be a proper demo and therefore will not require PS+ Premium?
This will be my first time trying a 120fps game on my PS5. Looking forward to trying out this demo.
Demo's are hard to get right, and I think i've been put off a game as often as it's sold me on it. Sometimes i've ended up playing the game anyway later and loved it. Hopefully this puts on a good show.
UPDATE: played the demo now. While the demo was a bit slow there was enough to show me it will be my type of game for sure. Reviews are great too, currently 86 from 61 reviews, looking forward to playing this in due course.
@Aria_Kharabi "It's not racist. People just think he looks too black."
Sorry, you're not winning me over here. I get annoyance when established characters are race-swapped (although nobody seemed to care when it was Nick Fury lol), but the suggestion here is literally that Sargon's features aren't light/European enough.
@sanderson72 just a plain old school demo that does not require anything
Released at 5 pm GMT according to Twitter/X
That'll be first day one game this year. Super excited.
@Aria_Kharabi Except in this one, you don't play as the Prince himself, but his loyal bodyguard. And it still takes place in a Middle Eastern setting. So not sure where you got Africa from.
I'm glad we're getting a demo; wanna see how this feels at 120fps before I decide on a purchase. More demos please!
This is a nice surprise 😮
@Ralizah I hadn’t heard any of the racism stuff, which was nice for change, and was going to ask you about it, but reading that reply explaining how being racist isn’t racism, or maybe it was the other way around, well that’s enough for me.😩
Haven’t played a demo since FF16, I’ll give this 1 a whirl and maybe have some fun for an hour but I’m not buying it, all Ubi games are 75% off within a year, I can wait.
Wasn't on my radar before but this game plays spectacularly! Got my preorder in!
@rjejr lol
People see a dark-skinned protag, become angry, probably don't fully consciously understand why, and then invent narratives to explain that feeling.
But yeah, I feel like most of the chatter about Sargon's appearance has calmed down since the game itself looks fire.
@Ralizah I'm not surprised there was an issue, just surprised I hadn't read about it. Just googled the game and nothing jumped out a me so maybe it's not as big of a deal as black mermaids and Hobbits. 😂
Yeah the demo completely sold me. I always thought it looked good but I originally planned on holding off but the demo+the good reviews pushed me over the edge. Looking forward to it!
@The_Pixel_King I'll grab the demo and have a butchers then..cheers for the heads up 👍
@Ralizah I never understood why when nick fury was portrayed by Samuel l Jackson nobody cared and I personally thought it was an inspired choice. Now when scarlett Johanson played the lead part in ghost in the shell there were screams of appropriation. So if a person of colour portrays a white character its called diversity but the other way round its appropriation? The colour of the character in Prince of persia is a moot point to me as it doesn't stop the game from being playable and to be honest I can look past things like that anyway. As always I think that on the Internet things get blown out of proportion by the virtue signalling masses. When can games return to being games and a fun pastime again?
This was surprisingly good? Fun gameplay, tight platforming. Price of admission is too high atm, but I'll get this sometimes in the future.
You don't play the prince btw but an Immortal (of the persian emperor).
@rjejr there was a black hobbit?!?!? I must have missed that in my rage at the black elf lol was that really an issue when Rings of Power came out?? I had my gripes but it was mainly with the s***acular reveal of Sauron, uggghhh they really gave no thought to lore with that.
@JuiceboxMeister I think half the Hobbits were black but I don't recall a black elf, but that's not really what I'm watching my fantasy for, skin color, so I wasn't really paying that much attention to recall.
Well this demo really convinced me! I will add it to the wishlist and will definitely buy it once it’s on offer. I do want to support it but they really chose a busy time to publish it!
@rjejr wasn't the elf ranger who was in love with the human lady from the village a black guy? Doesn't matter, I still find it funny that it was even a controversy. I need to rewatch the show, can't wait for season 2!
@JuiceboxMeister Ok ranger elf did ring some bells. I always tend to ignore any love interest story lines in my fantasy media, they always seem so forced and unnecessary. 😜
