Port begging. Unlike Xbox, PlayStation can't be played on most of the screens; hence, needs to have exclusives to tie customers down to their system.

It’s a new game, by Microsoft’s own logics, helldivers 2 needs to be on PlayStation 5 for about a year (or over 6) before it would be eligible for multiplat.

He's of course being deliberately dumb, but just to point it out for anyone that actually thinks he believes this: The point is to get people to buy your console so you can get the 30% rip on all the other software. Helldivers 2 could make more money if it were on Xbox/Switch, but it's offset by getting/keeping people in your ecosystem and taking 30% of all the other games they'll buy. So who does it help? Sony, by using it to entice people into the ecosystem.

The reason why PlayStation and Nintendo games aren't on Xbox is the same reason why Xbox games are coming over to other platforms, Xbox series X/S sales are terrible, selling around less than half of the PS5's numbers and selling at a slower pace compared to Xbox One in the same timeframe. Sony and Nintendo don't want to spend time and money porting their games to a dwindling platform.

I kinda agree. A game like Helldivers 2 needs the playercounts and sure it has that but adding more would only benifit the game in the long run. Keep the likes of Spidey 2 exclusive sure but Helldivers 2? Yeah it wouldn't harm being on Xbox as well.

Here's the meat and potatoes of the situation. Microsoft don't want peace and harmony they want to win. If Playstation titles drop day and day on Xbox, Sony lose everything. Because even though there are some pros for ps5 hardware that make an experience on Playstation next level like the dualsence haptics and adaptive trigger. It doesn't matter to most people all people care about is price and as it stands the series s is the cheapest on the market. Most people will take the savings. Without a sufficient reason to stay people will swap. There's a reason why the switch is still selling even with inferior hardware and it's not because nintendo is putting their games on other platforms.

I can image game hostage negotiations going like this, "ok Spiderman as you get out of the car don't walk over to the Xbox car too fast. Wait for Starfield to cross at the same time. Good luck buddy"

It helps PlayStation move hardware and expand/reinforce their brand.
It helps the dev to optimize the game and ship it sooner. It’s one less platform to worry about…

How would Helldivers 2 benefit from being on Xbox? The PlayStation 5 platform only is double Xbox & that's not including PlayStation 4 & PC. If Sony where to go multiplatform you choose Nintendo Switch. Also if exclusives didn't matter Activision & Bethesda would still be multiplatform.

Why would PlayStation want to have to spec game development for the bottom rate series S? And who would be buying on xbox? If its not on gamepass they don't sell. If 1% of xbox players bought it would be 250k total, and even games like spiderman 2 on ps5 has only sold to less than 20% of ps5 consumers so 1% is being very generous sales wise

I think once we see the better games come over from xbox then maybe Sony could return the favour, start with games like Returnal, Demon Souls Remake, HellDivers 2 and Sackboy and then move onto some prequels like God of War (2018), Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn to try gain new fans and hope they make the jump to playstation to play their sequels.

Xbox is like: well we are porting 4 ***** games so give us all of your games that people actually want.

Also having to develop for the series s would probably add another year or 2 to development

Actually having PS games on Xbox does help Sony (not just the financial aspect)

Because player picks up game, sees the quality etc of a ps studio game and then potentially buys into the PS ecosystem to play other exclusives.

(Obviously the same can happen for ms/nintendo)

Port beg shortly followed by Gamepass beg from the Xbox players.

Besides isn't the Vita a more viable platform at this point.

I’ve been an avid gamer since the mid 90’s.. but I was into gaming news since the ps2 era.. when the 360 came out.. they were buying exclusive rights for Call of Duty DLC, making games come out first for 360 then later on ps3, EA marketing deals with Xbox logo on every EA commercial..
So in saying that.. they lost their grip on the market and now playing this equalizer in gaming.. when they are the ones buying studios up and making games that were planned to be coming out for PS5 to be shelved..

Sony bought Bungie and didn’t make their games exclusive.
Only games that are made exclusive from companies that Sony bought were new IP’s from company’s that no one has heard of.

I believe in exclusive content and always will. Even these streaming tv/movie services have it. If you're going to make a console you have to give people a reason to buy it and games that can't be purchased on a competing brand is one way (though certainly not the only way) to do that.

And all that aside, the only reason Phil Spencer keeps crying about this, like he's been doing for more than a handful of years now, is because the Xbox brand has faltered courtesy of his former moronic boss, and he was never able to fully fix the mess that Mattrick created. If roles were reversed and Xbox was outselling PlayStation 2:1, there's no way Spencer is talking like this.

They did it with the increase in game prices to $70, they did it with the increase in console pricing (and then did both themselves once they had stoked the fires), they did it with game pass, they did it with cross-play (which Sony introduced way before Microsoft did with the likes of Portal 2 - but people conveniently forget that), and they have done it with various other things i cant remember right now.

They paint this virtuous image of themselves and casually run down Sony's business approach, which comes across as incredibly insincere and unprofessional - and is solely done to flame the console war (despite Phil claiming he hates it).

So these comments are 100% designed to deflect from what Microsoft is doing and paint Sony in a bad light.

Pentiment is the fifth highest ranked Xbox Series exclusive! The only four Series exclusives ranked higher are Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Hi-Fi Rush, and Halo Infinite! If the fifth best game is crap like you say, that doesn’t say much about the Xbox game catalog!

Gaming really is on its arse isn't it. Demon souls and spiderman 2 are probably the only PlayStation 5 console exclusives I can think of, Xbox has the abortions like red fall and starfield, Nintendo doing there own thing quietly and getting on with it. And here we are nearly four years into current generation, hardly anything to scream about worth owning a ps5 or series x. You'd think developers would be pumping out exclusive games by the bucket load, but people are trying to get hell divers 2 on Xbox.... Hell divers 2 a lacklustre game that looks last generation at best with sprinkles of starship troopers and we are getting hyped for this? Why exactly do we game anymore really? Wish I hadn't bothered with current generation full stop at this point.... Almost four years into the generation and a rumoured pro on the way.... Don't bother. Average to poor this generation compared to ps4/Xbox one and certainly to PS3 and 360.

It could be the same reason as to why ps5 didnt get palworld but xbox did. Exclusivity.. no one really cares about the 4 xbox games that came to ps5. Is sony going to give xbox god of war ragnarok, horizon forbidden west, spider man 2? Doubt it
