Stellar Blade developer Shift Up has shared what the studio has planned in terms of post-launch support for its soon-to-be-released PS5 exclusive. In a recent interview with bbs.ruliweb.com, it revealed the title will receive free updates that bundle in new costumes for protagonist Eve to wear alongside a New Game+ option. It's also stated "DLC has not been determined" separately to the free content drops, which could suggest there'll be a larger Stellar Blade expansion in the future also.
Elsewhere in the interview, Shift UP CEO Kim Hyeong-tae stressed the game won't feature any microtransactions. "We would like to make it clear here that Stellar Blade does not require any additional expenses that gamers are not aware of other than the cost of purchasing the package." He explains that the only exception to this would be if the developer collaborates with another studio on a costume for Eve, which "can be sold for a fee".
There will be 30 costumes to choose from in the base game, and with more on the way after launch, it sounds like your fashion skills will be just as important as the ones you employ during combat. Stellar Blade releases for PS5 on 26th April 2024, with a demo available on the PS Store now. Are you excited for the full game? Let us know in the comments below.

I’d imagine that fashion-blade might just end up being a bigger thing that fashion-souls ever was 😏
It’s one of those odd scenarios where the target market are the sorta guys who whine about MTX on Twitter so they probably can’t get away with costumes for that audience being sold at a fee.
‘ate microtransactions, luv anime boobs. Simple as.
Yoko taros prepping 2b for her 20th crossover isn't he
Not completely loving the focus on Eve’s body and outfits.
Great news about MTX of course but a bit more focus about the wider game would be nice.
After not being sure for the first ten minutes or so, I ended up absolutely loving the Stellar Blade demo and I’m so glad it plays as good as it looks. I can’t wait for it to finally launch.
sorry but i feel new game+ should be available in any game at launch. it shouldn't be post launch content
stuff like this makes me wait till the game is finished before buying
@trev666 I agree, but at least it won't be behind a paywall lol
I get crossover outfits having a price tag due to licensing fees and other oddities, but I'm glad post-launch content will be free for the most part.
@trev666
Last month it was that developers should not charge for new game+, now we need it at launch? Not many games have this feature at launch as most people will take a bit of time to play through it the first time.
"'ate microtransactions, luv anime boobs. Simple as"
This but unironically
in the ps4 generation new game+ was available at launch with games so we now just accept its not now?
sorry i just think its another step back for this generation
@trev666 Yup, if Capcom, Atlus, Kojima, Fromsoft, and Square Enix can add it at launch then so can all of these other devs. Iirc, it's done on purpose to get people back into playing the game again.
@Judal27 Actually hoping a 2B crossover happens.
@itsfoz Well good news is based in the demo the game is fantastic.
Hats off to Shift Up for how they're handling DLC. Licensing fees make it understandable to charge for collaborations with other IPs, but other updates like original outfits and updates should be free. Story expansions with new, expanded areas, enemies, weapons, etc. also makes sense for a fee, as long as they do so responsibly.
@nessisonett That quote you modified is me to a T, LOL
April 26 can’t get here soon enough.
I feel that gamer bros are saying they are buying this game for the combat to be quite amusing. They want the nudie hot girl game to succeed so badly to prove whatever point they are trying to prove they will forgive any of its potential shortcomings.
Does everyone know there isn't a photo mode at launch? Guess what they are probably going to add to any PAID DLC? Thats right...Upskirt Camera Mode.
@MikeOrator I want good gameplay but the eye candy is a bonus I suppose. Still would prefer a badass dude if I had the choice.
I hope there's permutation on some of the dress, like maybe dress that strengthen the gun but lower the sword damage or vice versa to keep the gameplay interesting 😃
@wiiware The noodie outfit is hard mode, apparently.
@MikeOrator Don't need an up-skirt camera mode. See above.
"Free" with $70 purchase.
I really hope those on the fence give the demo a try. I have seen a lot of surprised reactions as to how good the combat, graphical fidelity and music is. Even I myself was surprised about how much I would enjoy the game. I think it is going to find a very big audience.
I wonder if the costumes will have different buffs.
So which costume collabs would be nice? 2B, Tifa, Old School Cammy, Pyra (will never happen), that blonde chick from Persona 5, Quiet, Lara Croft... first comes to mind.
@slips666 Yeah so? They made a game thats the pricing. DD2 €75 full with crappy MT that alter the gameplay.
@BIG3 To add to that: Taki (Soul Calibur), Beatrix Kiddo (Kill Bill), Kasumi (DOA)
@Flaming_Kaiser not here to argue on the internet baby just stating throwing in a common feature as a patch isn’t free dlc. Not a comparison to any other game either. Have a good day.
@trev666 yep, especially so for a linear action game like this. Day one purchase to a “whenever new game plus releases” purchase for me, devs need to pick up on this kind of thing if they really want to maximize sales. Never a good thing to say “we don’t have this at launch”. I made the mistake of buying Spiderman 2 at launch, felt like I wasted 100 bucks and sold my copy. Got a free copy, sold that too. New game plus released and I still have no desire to go back.
I have been very surprised by the gameplay, felt like a mix of horizon and sekira, seems to be a good game, as of the character I just hope she shows strong personality
I intend to take a week off from work, so I can play it all day and look for new outfits ^__^
@MikeOrator Why are you so mad?
Free costumes and no mtx is always a plus! New game+ as dlc is great too; takes me forever to finish games these days, so…

I don't understand this trend of releasing games without ng+, only to do so months and months or even longer after. Just makes zero sense for initial engagement.
The more this game focuses on Eve's appearance and costumes, the more this game feels like it's basically just "Bayonetta for Playstation owners."
@KundaliniRising333 It's one of three things. Either it's just about getting out out the door as fast as possible and "finish it later" because only a tiny part of the audience even plays NG+ and they still have to play the base game first anyway. Or it's about observing player metrics to tune NG+. Or it's really there for the PR of announcing "NG+ feature added to game" so every single news rag has to promote the game like a second launch and soak in the PR. Basically the Animal Crossing New Horizons approach to marketing. (I'm ragging on that game in 2 threads here today but it really deserves it.)
@trev666
I agree. That was my first thought when I saw this news earlier. It's a problem I have with a lot of modern games. I'm happy they're not charging for New Game+, a practice a certain company uses, but still think it should be there from the get-go.
@NEStalgia
I wish it was that because then I wouldn't have to take too much time getting good at the combat.
I never understood, and never will understand, why people care about skins and appeareances in single player games...
In MP i can still understand some of it, because you want to look (semi-)unique in a world full of other players, but why is this a thing in SP games?

@wildcat_kickz Yes I know, I think it's cool the game is semi realistic, of course you'll have hard time if you fight alien with no clothing, lol.
