Stellar Blade has recorded another week at the top of the Japanese gaming sales chart, this time selling 10,935 copies to beat out competition from a trio of Nintendo Switch exclusives. The PS5 exclusive has now sold 91,099 units in total since its release in Japan. It's taken top place three weeks in a row now.
Given how quiet the release calendar is at the moment, there are no new entries for the sales chart covering the week beginning 13th May 2024. The rest of the top 10 is made up almost entirely of Ninte do Switch games, with the only other title available on other platforms besides Stellar Blade being Minecraft.
On the hardware side, a total of 17,565 PS5 consoles were sold to Japanese consumers last week, with most opting for the system with a disc drive. The Nintendo Switch OLED was the best-selling console, though, with 30,579 of them shifted. However, spare a thought for the PS4, which managed to sell a grand total of 53 consoles across the seven-day span.
Some Stellar Blade news is expected from developer Shift Up this week, indicating there could be either merchandise on the way or new content that may bring more Outfits to wear and Cans to collect.

Didn't read the headline, is this a Japan chart?
At least they offer actual sales numbers.
There's a shortage of Stellar Blade disks in Japan, otherwise sales would be higher. People are saying that a lot of stores are sold out.
Well deserved with how fun it is
Those Switch sales numbers are crazy for a console released in 2017.

This week yes. But many games have sold over a million in a week in Japan, the last one I believe was Pokémon Sword & Shield with 1.36 million first week sales in Japan.
Though more generally their console games sales are tailing off as time goes by.
Nintendo's dominance in Japan continues to astound me. I plan on picking up Stellar Blade when I finish Rebirth.
So in Japan people buy multiple copies of a game to go along with their multiple Switches apparently 😐
@The_Wailing_Doom both excellent games! Ps5 has been so good for Japanese style games
Good news for Sony & Shift Up
Really is no competition in Japan for Nintendo right now.
@Nei
Yep. I have to roll my eyes whenever I see someone say PS5 has no games because it's a ridiculous claim. PS5 owners have been eating so well.
It sold more than a few old games. Shocker.
@NEStalgia Yep, that's Maslow hierarchy for us gamers.
@Tecinthebrain So in Japan people buy multiple copies of a game to go along with their multiple Switches apparently 😐
If that is the case then thats even more sad for Sony and MS in Japan that people would rather use their money twice on Nintendo than once on something else.
I really wonder what PS5 numbers will look like if the Switch 2 is equally (or more) successful than the original Switch.
This is great news, but I think it's apparent that Sony needs to make more Asian games to sell more games in Japan and other Asian markets.
Jesus, what's with this negativity despite the game doing well, lmao
Just be happy for the devs that their game has been doing great for weeks now. The fact that they are going against the Japanese giant, that being Nintendo, Shift Up's first AAA game did very well for the Japanese market and that's still a good thing
So in Japan, it's usually Nintendo games at top 10 with 1 ps game? That's actually pretty good for that one ps game to reach number 1. Sucks I won't be able to play it, unless it comes to PS4 or PC.
@Ashina That's what a lot of gamers do these days; turn positive news into negative because they think there's not enough negativity in gaming industry / community especially after all the lay off and studio got closed down :/
@Ashina
It's because the type of game Stellar Blade is. Certain types have to crap on it to prove what great, non-sexist people they are.
