1047 Games has announced Splitgate 2, a sequel to its viral hit multiplayer shooter from a few years back. Much like the original, Splitgate 2 will be a free-to-play FPS, with its main hook being the ability to drop portals on the battlefield to get the best of your opponents. It's confirmed for both PS5 and PS4, and it's launching in 2025.

The sequel is being built in Unreal Engine 5, and is the game the team always "dreamed of making". After concluding work on the original game in 2022, the team has built the follow-up from the ground up, including all new maps, weapons, character models, and more. It sounds like the studio has a real plan of action for Splitgate 2 after the first game's success caught them off-guard; they're building a game "that can last a decade or more".

Something else hinted at on the PS Blog is the inclusion of factions. It seems you'll be able to play as specific characters from various factions in this sci-fi arena shooter, but no further details have been shared yet. The post does tease more info is due in August, though, so hopefully we get to see much more next month.
