Gamescom Opening Night Live is the big kick-off event for Germany's huge gaming exhibition, with the one and only Geoff Keighley producing and presenting it each year. 2024's ONL is no different, and is very close indeed, being broadcast live in less than 48 hours. While we know a handful of the games that'll be making an appearance during the showcase, it seems fairly likely we can add one more to the list: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
While nothing has been officially confirmed at the time of writing, Hideo Kojima, spearheading work on the sequel at Kojima Productions, has been dropping some hints lately, suggesting fans should tune into ONL. Most recently, he has shared a new image on social media, teasing an unknown performer for DS2:
Given the timing of this teaser (which Keighley has retweeted), we imagine we'll learn who this is during a new trailer shown during Gamescom.
Additionally, Kojima has retweeted Keighley's own post about ONL, and there's also this, in which he appears to be reviewing/editing footage — maybe for a new trailer?
Given all these little teases, it feels to us that Death Stranding 2 will be shown off during Gamescom ONL.
Interestingly, in addition to announcing a handful of games that'll be in the show, Keighley has also confirmed one game that won't be there. The elusive Hollow Knight: Silksong isn't part of this year's ONL.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't
Ready to preorder. My most anticipated game ever (well, at least since the first one). Death Stranding is my favorite game of all time.
Yet to play the first lol
I can't wait. I know the first had a mixed reaction, but I loved it, it was one of my favourite PS4 games. Yes Kojima is weird and a fair bit pretentious, but I love him and I'd rather that than some of the other coolie cutter games that get released. Hiking through the Icelandic seeming environment is still on of the most beautiful and poignant moments in games. Day 1 purchase for me
The first game absolutely was not my cup of tea but I hope that the sequel is a success. In this age of live service slurry we need artists like Kojima who are still not afraid to put out fresh and original ideas.
Tilda Swinton? Or Radiohead?
Nah he’s probably taunting us again.
@Throb it’s Kenjiro Tsuda
The Japanese voice actor for Sam Porter Bridges.
Is that Tom Holland?
** edit**
It's some asian guy I've never heard of
That's Kenjiro Tsuda's sillouete. Pretty sure Kojima shared some pics with him awhile ago. He's a very prolific VA in Japan.
I wonder what I'm more likely to play first, Death Stranding or GTA V?
Probably DS, don't think my library has GTA V. DS may also have the Directors cut on PS+ Extra, so maybe.
Excited, this game has fantastic IQ like the previous entry even on PS5.
Hopefully Kojima doesn't disappoint and gives us a 2025 release date this time.
@Throb both would fit the DS vibe
So pumped for this. Death Stranding is an absolute masterpiece!
One of the most overrated and overhyped developer in the recent century with nothing backing him up after Metal Gear Solid. Just let him make a movie already and leave the games alone.
I hope this isn't a sign of Playstation Showcase being absent this year.
Kojima can pour all his worst impulses into this franchise that once he does his tactical stealth espionage game it's mostly out of his system. Of course it needs a dash of his signature craziness, but I hope it will shape into something coherent.
@QiaraIris Or just find something else? Lol Death Stranding is one of his best games
@QiaraIris Outside Metal Gear & Death Stranding, Kojima made Snatcher, Policenauts, Boktai, and Zone of the Enders which all of them received very positive reviews. He's also one of the producer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 1 and the game is amazing. But when Kojima doesn't involved with Lords of Shadow 2, it ended as a mediocre game that strip away what the 1st game already build up.
Heck, Kojima made P.T which is just a demo of Silent Hills and it was a big inspiration for many indie devs to make a horror game that looks like P.T.
So nah. Kojima is clearly one of the best devs in the history of gaming industry and he deserved all his achievement and praise.
I'm glad Kojima doesn't care what naysayers like you said about him or his games. People like you only wants devs to just play safe with their creativity. Every time a devs produced games that looks unique and fresh, people like you will mocked and shoot it down. So no wonder video games nowadays became less fun and unique.
First game is forever semented in my top 5. I'll preorder this ASAP.
I prefer his take on tactical espionage.
@Nepp67 That's why the sales was so abysmal for the budget it has right? Watch you come back with "sales aren't everything though!"
