It’s really rare we get grounded settings in games. No seriously, think about – most games are set in fantasy worlds or space. There are exceptions, of course: Hitman is one of this author’s favourites for its virtual tourism, and series like GTA offer relatively familiar sandboxes – even if they are cartoonish and larger-than-life.
Life Is Strange has its fair share of supernatural elements, but locations like Arcadia Bay have always felt real, which is a big part of the franchise’s appeal. We’re pretty excited to explore Caledon University in the upcoming Double Exposure, then – a sprawling campus that’s practically guaranteed to serve as a hotspot for hipsters.
In addition to academic institutions like the Fine Art Building and Observatory, you’ll also be able to visit some of the nearby social hubs, like a coffee shop and bar. We’ve always considered the backdrops a big part of the character of the Life Is Strange games, and it looks like the team at Deck Nine has nailed this aspect yet again.

This game will be hella cereal.
"Hotspot for hipsters"
Oh gawd, that sounds like a living nightmare. I wanted to like LiS in concept, but like everything Don't Nod, it's just too much beanies and avocado toast for me to withstand. (I know this sequel isn't made by Don't Nod but it continues their world.)
I am definitely excited about this one. It might be my most anticipated title of the year, above even Astro Bot and Zelda. As messed up as the plots for these games can be, they are so dang cozy, and I say this as a person that doesn’t typically play “cozy games.” My wife and I play through these games day 1. It’s practically the only game where my wife calls up my parents to watch the kids, so we can both experience the game together.
@somnambulance I wish my wife would play these with me but although she likes games that aren't too hard, she doesn't like story based games that don't have much "gameplay". I however love the life is strange games, and I find the characters relatable, despite me being in my 30s and British, so pretty much the opposite of the characters. This and mixtape are high on my most anticipated game list.
@Batesy125s it’s a shame Lost Records was delayed because it really felt like we were going to get competition in this little niche genre with Dontnod vs Deck Nine, and I was really looking forward to that. I’m in my 30s and midwestern American, and I totally get what you mean about the characters being relatable. They’re just so well written, even with the cheese and melodrama
I absolutely love this series and cannot wait. I'm a total unashamed nerd about it, so Day 1.
Unfortunate setting. If the campus isn’t occupied by protesters it will be denounced for ignoring serious issues. If it is, then it steps into a political minefield.
