An Alan Wake 2 super fan with particularly acute hearing has picked up on an early and quite esoteric bit of foreshadowing, much to the relief of the Remedy dev responsible for its inclusion. Obviously, targeted spoilers for the 2023 survival horror title to follow!
In an interaction chronicled by PC Gamer, eagle-eared Alan Wake fan and X user, WillieTPJ, posted the below clip, positing that Remedy signals quite early on that Scratch, Alan's malevolent doppelganger, is already inside the writer, possessing him. That's a twist revelation that comes much later in the game, but it turns out that if you hover the cursor around the prompts for Alan's photo in the Mind Place, you'll hear some spooky Dark Presence scratchings.
This would sound like the stuff of feverish conspiracies if not for the chiming in of one Josh Adam Bell, Senior Sound Person at Remedy, who confirmed that the audio foreshadowing was indeed put there for that exact purpose.
Did you stumble across this oddity in your own playthrough, perhaps thinking it was just a bug of some sort? Layer in ever more detail in the comments section below.

Me when I click on obvious spoilers
Everything about this game was 10/10 absolute genius to me. Let remedy be weird
@Colour The evolution of Remedy as a studio has been great to watch. Control really stepped up their narrative prowess and then Alan Wake 2 surpassed it in every way.
Just when I thought the game couldn't get any more weird 🥲 This is extremely unsettling. Will have to remember to do this for my next playthrough 😅
Played a bit of the DLC yesterday. Remedy is so good at setting a mood in their games. Absolutely love it.
Haven't played the game yet. I only bought it on Epic Games the other day as it was on Sale. Wish it was on Steam tbh but oh well.
Regardless I really enjoyed the first game and can't wait to start this one.
Any news about Control 2.😁
@IamJT For sure, on of the few games that I was genuinely sad for it to be over. Almost consider jumping right a game on new game + but guess I'd need to let it rest for a bit to fully enjoy it! Fired up Control instead which I haven't played since release in 2019.
