Call of Duty is, as you all know, a first-person shooter. But the highly anticipated Zombies mode for Black Ops 6 will allow you to toggle to a third-person perspective, so you can get your undead slaughtering fix from behind the back of your character as opposed to down the barrel of your gun. It’s part of a suite of improvements that developer Treyarch hopes will rekindle your interest in the mode.

Reading through the outrageously detailed blog post on the mode, it sounds like it’s going back-to-basics. Combat will be rounds-based, and you’ll be able to purchase new weapons and upgrade your abilities during brief periods of respite. There’ll be two maps to explore at launch: an offshore penitentiary named Terminus and a West Virginian town called Liberty Falls.

There’ll be quests and Easter eggs to uncover in each map, and a veritable array of augments, perks, and field upgrades. A new guided mode will help newcomers to complete the main storyline for each location, although this is optional and you can still do things the old-fashioned way if you prefer. You’ll even be able to Save and Quit your progress in solo mode.

There’s a ton more information on the Call of Duty website, which outlines everything in intricate detail, but our takeaway is that if you’ve lapsed on Zombies of late, there’s probably never been a better time to get back into it. While we’re confident the traditional competitive multiplayer suite in Black Ops 6 will also be great, Zombies currently seems like the reason to buy the latest game.
