Here come the early tech evaluations, then: according to the experts at Digital Foundry, based on several minutes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth footage running on the PS5 Pro, the upgrade is a “night and day” difference. We’ve already heard murmurs about the improvements to this game in particular, which will run at 60 frames-per-second on Sony’s supercharged system with significantly improved image quality – but here’s the evidence to support it.
The Square Enix title is a very interesting example, because many people complained about its visuals in performance mode. The publisher did attempt to improve this with subsequent patches, but it’s always looked soft when running at 60fps. As system architect Mark Cerny promised, the PS5 Pro solves these issues, offering a smooth frame rate with image quality on par with – and, in some instances, better than – the base PS5 version’s 30fps graphics mode.

Once again, reading through the increasingly complex analysis, it seems like Sony’s AI-based PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, taking a comparable internal resolution to the original and upscaling it effortlessly with very few compromises in image quality. Digital Foundry’s report does note that the technology struggles a little with areas of shallow depth of field, but overall we can see a remarkable increase in clarity and image quality.

The report also notes that ghosting is no longer an issue on PS5 Pro, and even distant foliage appears more solid and dense on the upgraded appliance – but pop-in does remain an issue in the open world. Particle effects also appear cleaner and clearer in motion, where they’re muddy on the standard PS5 console. All of this results in a dramatic difference, and it’s probably worth emphasising that the patch is unlikely to be finalised just yet.
Still, based on these early results, we’ve got a meaningful upgrade here: PS5 Pro simply looks cleaner running at 60fps than on a base PS5. Whether that’s enough to convince you to upgrade is another discussion, but there’s no doubt, for this game in particular, the new hardware is delivering a meaningful improvement. You can learn more, as well as browse some pretty nifty comparison screenshots, on Eurogamer.net.

That's a huge improvement, looks nice!
Hey, @get2sammyb, you have a typo in the first paragraph; particularly instead of particular. Thought you might want to correct it...
This is exactly what i wanted. Performance mode was so weird looking.
@Fiendish-Beaver Thanks, I fixed that!
Cue people complaining about how much it costs for this amount of clearly observable difference.
Rebirth for game of the year!!
Is the issue the PS5 base console or the developers not optimising the games correctly the having to rely on this PSSR?
i play in fidelity mode so pro probably isnt for me
This is a nice improvement, but I'm still worried about how many games will actually get noticable improvements. Sure, Final Fantasy looks great, but I'm not buying a $810 console (yeah, I know) just for one pretty game.
@darylb24 Probably a bit of both but the reality is you're going to seeing better image quality at 60fps on PS5 Pro than standard PS5.
This is what it's designed to do.
Are these the differences I was told I wouldn't be able to see?
@HotGoomba Surely only the CBU3 devs at Square will be able to use this tech.
Are yall for real? I'm staring right at the pics side by side and barley see a difference.
And yes, I have my eye contacts in lol
@J-Dubs Oh thank goodness it's not just Square, I was worried that we would never see Sony make use of the tech. What a relief.
@InfidelFrigidstraigh Not sure what to tell you. The image quality is vastly superior. It's fair to debate whether the improvements are enough to warrant a $700 purchase, but they're absolutely there.
I will agree that this is noticeable. It's clear Sony should've used third-party games for its presentation. I guess they didnt want to dump on how bad third party games are on the base PS5.
However - this isn't good enough for me at that price. I'd pay more for a much noticeable difference, which means going on PC.
I must be blind because I don't notice a difference at all but I am on my Phone right now.
It does look so much sharper and cleaner.
Need to see a lot more games for it to become worthwhile to myself (or some good bundles)
But for those that want fps and graphics it’s a promising start.
Nice that it gets a perceived visual quality boost thanks to PSSR. I am playing the game in Quality Mode - the 30fps doesn't bother me one bit - so I am not too fussed about the overall image quality (I just hate the lighting model as it feels like a downgrade from the first game).
I also think this really helps to ground expectations for the PS5 Pro. So far what has been shown off is games running in their Performance Modes but boosted to a more convincing 4K image thanks to PSSR.
This isn't going to be a thing where Quality Mode at 30fps (which generally run with higher visual settings and resolution) will suddenly run at 60fps on the Pro.
There may be some rare cases (like if a developer chose to have a 30/40fps but has there was already overhead to run at like 50fps if unlocked), but I think the overwhelming amount of patches are going to rely on using PSSR to get Performance Modes up to "4K".
New games being developed will probably provide better results on the Pro, but I foresee a majority of current game patches being relatively "low effort" patches.
1 - this is a Digital Foundry review. Those guys live to analyze graphic quality and performance. To the average man a graphical upgrade could be negligible, but to DF it's MONUMENTAL because they focus on every fine detail.
2 - Even with this slight bump in quality, I personally still can't justify the $1,000CAD (before tax) cost for a console that will be replaced by the next iteration in 4-6 years. PS4 Pro to PS5 was a small jump that barely justified the cost, the PS5 to PS5 Pro looks to be around the same, if not smaller jump but for substantially more cost. I think I'll be sitting this one out and waiting to see what the PS6 does.
Maybe they should have led with this video or one similar where you could actually see a difference. Still not getting it because I don't sit and stare at graphics when I, y'know, play games.
Ok, in fairness, side by side, the base PS5 looks like it’s smeared n Vaseline and has lots more blurring in movement. I’m still happy to play the next few AAA games like this though and wait on the PS6
@caiol92 people love to complain is why. If my PS5 breaks I would probably get a pro, but I'm not dumping over $800 after tax and a disc drive to get me where I'm at now. Do I need to let the whole world know about it at every opportunity? No.
@RubyCarbuncle You should be able to see the difference much easier on a phone, given it has a screen higher than 480p. Most of the time these comparisons don't mean much on a tv, but when the screen is literally right in front of your face... Lol if you can't see any difference then you clearly don't have a keen eye for this sort of thing. Must be nice to not be able to tell when a picture is blurry
I can see a difference...but I'm sorry it still isn't a HUGE difference. At least to me. I thought Performance mode looks great on Rebirth.
But hey if seeing more hair strands on Tifa's head is what your looking for then go for it! It's your money.
Looking forward to the digital foundry analysis of gta 6 on the ps5 pro to see what an 80% cost premium gets you over the base digital slim edition 😊
@caiol92 I guess when the displays a lot of us play on started to improve and highlight the stark contrast. I had no issue playing 30fps up until a few years ago, but since switching to a large LG oled, that framerate honestly looks and performs horribly in games for me.
I can see a difference. Enough for me to drop $700 on it? No.
@caiol92 strongly agree. Wayyy too many people deluding themselves into thinking that "30 fps is unplayable." Entire generations played enjoyed games at that or even lower framerates!! Its insane
I can see a “noticeable difference” but it feels like, the everyday gamer isn’t going to notice nor care when the game is in motion. I would prefer, to see a higher frame rate than resolution. 60fps is the industry standard, and I think to leverage this as a “Pro console” I think it needs to be more than just a resolution and a slight detail increase. Otherwise this screams PS4 Pro. Still this is cool, and looking forward to seeing what the console can do when it launches.
@caiol92 Sony told that 75% choses performance mode if there is choice. You are stuck somewhere in past. You do you, but 60fps is way to go.
@caiol92 As Mark Cerny himself said, 75% of players are choosing 60fps this generation. People want the smooth gameplay and the higher quality graphics. That's what PS5 Pro is designed to provide.
The only meaningful "vast improvement" for this game is cutting out all the multiverse/time travel buIIshit.
@get2sammyb that’s the problem, you’re paying £700 and just hoping that you’ll get to play future releases at 60fps. Sony have even said that there will be 30fps games on the pro
The ps5 pro still ain’t worth $700. I’m hoping the ps5 pro fail and Sony stop with this mid generation console nonsense next gen.
@J-Dubs It costs too much for a small amount of observable difference.
You're welcome.
@UntilRespawn @caiol92 You two are in the vocal minority. Nothing wrong with that.
Oh right that's lovely ....defo going to pay £700 now I know that if I pause the game and screenshot stuff and put it side by side and look closely I will be able to see one is abit clearer ...take my £700
Atleast I can genuinely see a slight difference for once though ...sure I will be told this is like night and day though by the people who need this...even though no normal person is going to notice these differences while gaming
@HotGoomba Yeah the uptake for this just isn't worth the price of admission.
And of the 260 games I currently have installed, I don't see any of them being improved quite like this.
I will probably be as close to first place in line to get a pro. But I would like to pull up Mark Cerny on his 9 minute video. Specifically about people choosing performance mode over graphics quality mode. He stared that with the pro we shouldn't have to choose between performance or quality and that it would be quality mode at 60fps. However, every demo so far has been performance mode that had been up rezzed. My issue is that performance modes, drop out graphics settings like ray tracing and other special effects are reduced, as well a draw distance, foliage and how many npc on screen at once.
I don't want an enhanced 60fps performance mode, I am a console graphics junkie, I want quality mode running super smooth with further graphical enhancements to get near to near high end settings.
It does put doubts in my mind about ordering one. I will probably pre order but if it doesn't improve come week of release I will likely cancel, as chances of selling on for a profit will be next to none.
@TheFakulty The idea is to get the quality mode running at 60fps.
at what point is sharpening graphics enough lol
@get2sammyb I know that's what was said, but having looked into every game digital foundry has compared, it is the performance modes that have been shown off, still running 60fps but with higher resolutions. The graphic mode clips which have been shown very short bursts, are still 30fps. The base resolutions have also dropped in the games like gt7 for instance, so has gone from 4k to 1200ish and the upscale. That is certainly not what I was expecting of this console. I have been day 1 on pretty much every Sony console, but this I have doubts with.
I should add I also buy most accessories (except fancy controllers) like the ps4pro, psvr 1 and 2, the Portal, pstv. So I don't tend to listen to negative vibes from people. It's just this is not exciting me about something new it brings.
Even those things I listed above that I have bought were for reason. Pstv was for remote play in another and vita games on tv, vr obviously playing vr, portal playing more time and anywhere in the house. Ps4pro was to upgrade the TV and appreciate the bump on quality plus the added modes due to the checkerboard rendering that was night and day above ps4.
@jrt87 Sure thing sure thing....have a 65 inch oled c2.....maybe I just you know play games ...and I don't sit there squinting my eyes looking to see I can see a few extra blades of grass...or an extra tree 2 miles off in the distance....
We all know the kinda people these 'upgrades' are for...no normal person Is going to notice anything In motion graphics wise...that's pretty evident when digital foundry are needed to tell us differences...and side by side zoomed in screenshots are needed to notice minimal difference
@get2sammyb i think thats the best part of all of this , is they give people the choice with out excluding any one. if you own a base ps5 , and are fine with that , you'll still be able to play all the same games. if you want that extra boost in power , you can upgrade or buy a 2nd ps5. for me i'd just move my normal ps5 to my room and the pro would take its place.
@jrt87 Square Enix is kinda lazy developers
I mean...when you slow it down and put it side by side...I can KINDA see a difference sometimes?? I played through Rebirth on Performance Mode and never had a single complaint about graphics soooo...yall enjoy I guess! Haha.
I'm a guy that can enjoy an Atari game running at 5 fps so I don't really care to spend $700 so that Tifas hair is slightly more defined. Lol
A great improvement. I guess I'll wait for the Pro before playing the NG+
Playing quality mode @ 60fps is going to be such a huge improvement on how the game feels, never mind how it looks having all the settings maxed out as well.
So many good looking games ended up feeling like treacle this gen, and the drop in quality was always a disappointment in performance mode. That's why I bought a PC a few years ago, to replay the games I enjoyed on PS but at a higher framerate and better quality, and that cost me >£3k.
Being able to just stay in the PS world to play the games I love at higher framerates and best quality is worth every penny of what they are asking for the pro.
But gaming is how I unwind and relax, and that hasn't changed since I was feeding 50p's into Gauntlet and Golden Axe in the arcade...
The difference is tremendous, but mainly because SE did a bad job with the original version.
FF7R in performance mode has a similar (typically higher) resolution and the same framerate as Returnal (which is fixed 1080p60). Both are UE4 games, based on late, mature versions of the UE4 SDK.
But why does Returnal look so much sharper and better than FF7R on base PS5?
Do you get any upgrades to the fidelity mode at all for someone who plays mainly in that mode like myself , 30fps really doesn't bother me ,and I don't really understand all the whining about 60fps constantly , it's a relatively new thing on consoles is it not.
This will likely be one of the biggest upgrades but that's as much because of the dreadful upscaling Square implemented in the first place, as much as the extra power of the pro. FFVII Rebirth has some of the worst image quality I've seen, along with the launch version of Horizon Forbidden West
@TheFakulty as Sammy said, the point of the Pro is to have the quality mode settings of games running at 60fps instead of 30
@jrt87 Wouldn't know...never played it...as tried to get into final fantasy with 16...and the game was so dull haha..it's put me off any other
@carlos82 I know that's the point of ps5pro but what I don't think you have understood so far is that all of the games shown, are only showing the ps5 base performance mode with upscale in resolution. That is not quality mode in 60fps. That is my whole point. Why are they not showing the quality mode at 60fps. It gets me worried
@J-Dubs There ARE clearly observable differences in THIS game. But the reality is MOST games don't look anywhere near as low-res on PS5 as FF7 Rebirth, especially in performance mode.
We may see many more games like it, which might make PS5 Pro more worthwhile... OR perhaps it is just a badly optimised game and most other game's differences will be far more muted. Only time will tell. But while the changes are large on this one, that doesn't suddenly make it good value when it's currently an edge case.
@TheFakulty In the reveal they showed The Last of Us, Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank at fidelity settings running at 60fps (well Cerny said almost fidelity settings) but it was certainly higher settings than performance mode as well as a higher resolution.
But people do need to keep their expectations in check as the new GPU isn't that much more powerful, only something like a 45% uplift (PS4 Pro was more than double PS4), with PSSR doing much of the heavy lifting
Overall they didn't do a great job in showing off what it can do
@yohn777 Well seeing as you put it like that the difference as far as I can make out is non existent or barely noticeable. Certainly not something I would pay 800 for. I'm happy with what I have and I'm actually planning on buying a new Ultrawide curved gaming monitor anyway for PC. I'm not really sure if I'll use it for PS5 as native resolution for these monitors isn't supported apparently.
@get2sammyb no, stick to the twitter memes
@carlos82 means you have not sat through the digital foundry podcast. They have received the high rez presentation to properly compare the titles. Literally all of the games you mentioned are upscale versions of the performance modes not the quality modes. I think they look really good but as I have said they will be missing the effects in quality mode
@themightyant You can't really call it an edge case because we don't really know how many games will use the features or how they will perform. This is some evidence for this game running better. Does that make it an "edge case?" No. Just means there is a small sample size.
The Last of Us Part 2: The clip shown in the presentation operates at the same native 1440p rendering resolution as the performance mode in the standard PS5 game. However, PSSR is used instead of a more basic upscale, giving a presentation comparable with native 4K. Why didn't Naughty Dog increase resolution? Well, PSSR has a computational cost on its own, while various elements such as post-processing are likely running at native 4K resolution.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart: The footage looks to show much the same visual feature set as the existing Performance RT mode. However, internally rendering resolution varies between 1440p and 1800p, with a pass of PSSR to deliver a 4K output.
Alan Wake 2: There isn't much video here, but there are clearly 30fps and 60fps modes, targeting 1260p and 864p respectively. Again, as the footage was easily countable, we're confident this is using PSSR. Screen-space reflections are evident in the 60fps mode, but they are not in 30fps, suggesting RT may be in play.
Gran Turismo 7: Adding quarter res (1080p) ray-traced reflections in gameplay has a hit on GPU performance, so internal resolution drops in the clips seen to 1188p and - again - PSSR upscaling is used for a 4K output.
not a bad upgrade there. but keep in mind, most ps5 games/pro upgrades will not get this level of treatment as they will primarily be reserved to first party/sony published/timed exclusives only, with the odd multiplatform game. which means... just a handful of games in the grand scheme of things.
@TheFakulty ahh right, fair enough. I've not had the chance to check that out yet and if that's the case, then Mark Cerny was misrepresenting what we were being shown on screen
@RubyCarbuncle Just read the other comments, it's an obvious & noticable difference. I don't mind one way or the other if you do or don't want a PS5 Pro, I'm not trying to convince you of anything other than the difference in picture quality being measurably improved on it. I'm just gonna put out there that if you don't see a difference then you should consider seeing an optometrist, it's a clear change. I don't think Rebirth was a bad game but there were many many people who considered the picture quality in general to be subpar. The performance mode in Rebirth looks straight up blurry side by side even with Remake.
Also yes to my knowledge Sony games have very poor ultrawide support & tends to just stretch the image
I still cannot believe people are doubling down on the criticism of PS5 Pro:
a) Not making a difference because they still can't see it. They are either trolling or have their heels dug in because they don't want to see it because that would prove a case use for the system
b) Saying that the difference isn't worth 700 buck. Its not worth $700. The price is $250 more than a base PS5 and a third of that cost is more memory. Maybe this is still not worth it to YOU but the truth is what the truth is.
It's time to move on people. This is happening and there is nothing you can do to stop it from happening. Either get on the Bandwagon or go back to complaining about Concord.
That’s a big deal to me.
The fogginess and blurriness I see in a lot of games really annoys me.
I’m already sold on a PS5 Pro just from the few examples I’ve seen and I imagine it’s gonna be so much better in person.
Granted, I’m very aware that the vast majority probably doesn’t even notice the differences But they’ve always stood out to me.
@Steel76
If there was a tool, in the industry that you work in, that could make your job easier, more efficient, and less costly, would you not use that tool? Why are developers lazy for using the tools provided to them to get the job done more effectively?
@carlos82 exactly. If they prove later that cam do quality at 60fps then I am straight in there. I am not a pc player nor would I move to pc, but I need that excitement for the next ps machine
@InfidelFrigidstraigh Cycle through that picture of the girl and the cat.
Look at the flower to her right and notice how blurry it is, and then cycle through the pics to notice the improvement.
Do the same with her hair on the left side.
Do the same with the trees on the cliff in the far background while also noticing how the grey fogginess is reduced while the object is also becoming sharper.
I can't justify $700 for something I already have...But, I can justify getting my son a used PS5 (my current one) for $700. There...wallet guilt is erased. Bring the Pro.
@Max_the_German Different engines, different people with different levels of skill, and basically a corridor shooter versus a semi-open world game all factor into the quality of a product.
@Snackfood I plan on buying a pro and selling my PS5 after it arrives. I have a PS4 that I could sell as well. I’m not sure yet.
I know I’ll get at least $400 for that PS5, So I only had to put in $400 more for the best product available, which I’m cool with.
Nope,..Not Buying Into this overpriced pay For polish scheme. Sony and SE can kiss my ***.
I wanna see more games but this has cemented my purchase for PS5 pro now more than ever.. I hated how bad FF7R looked from demo and still to this day I've never played it
Out of all the examples that were shown it was the framerate of Ratchet that really stood out to me. Was super smooth.
@get2sammyb What doesn't sit well with me is that when I bought my PS5 and saw on the box it says 8k, 4k, 120fps, I remember thinking "it's probably 8k or 120fps; but perhaps 4k/60 fps most of the time"? But as it turns out, I'd have to spend 800 USD on another console 4 years later for what was originally advertised for PS5. I am not suggesting false advertisement, but I don't think I was the only person believing that PS5 promised 4k at 60 fps for most games this generation.
@InfidelFrigidstraigh It's subtle, for sure, as we've been deep into diminishing returns in graphics for years now. But it's certainly noticeable. The character's hair is the telltale here. It looks heavily dithered even in the base PS5's fidelity mode, whereas it's clean and natural in the Pro shot.
Most people won't care but, for the few (millions) of us graphics enthusiasts, the current way upscaling looks on the PS5 is quite distracting and well worth the upgrade.
@MikeOrator in canada, the price difference between the base ps5 (disc) and the pro ps5 (disc) is $460CAD (taking tax into consideration). that is a 63% increase versus the base model which is quite absurd all things considered. in europe, the optics are even worse. looking at this from an americancentric point of view is a little less damning due to the way currency works... with no price drop in sight on the base unit 4 years and counting, this situation couldn't possibly get any worse. people have good reason to be bitter. they will continue to voice their opinions and (hopefully) vote with their wallets so that sony course corrects.
there is also concern that the base model will become neglected (more likely with third party titles) in the same way the base ps4 was (i.e. poor optimization and lazy ports etc). so even those who aren't interested in the ps5 pro may be paying the price. this works out poorly for 90% of the install base, while the other 10% feels good about their shiny new toy.
Looks good, the console ist still way too expensive
@Porco yeah in the UK it's £310 more expensive than it's digital equivalent and a 79% price increase, the PS4 Pro was just £100 more or a 40% price increase
Let's back up the trolley here for a second. I don't care how good the game looks on a Pro. I don't care how good the game looks on a 4090. The game had absolutely zero excuse to look as terrible as it did on a PS5. Period. Full stop. This isn't a celebration of the Pro, this is a demonstration of Squares complete failure to hit reasonable performance and visuals on the machine they EXCLUSIVELY made the game for. The fact you can brute force it to suck less for $700 isn't really high praise for anything other than that decent AI upscalers are nice.
I do wonder what the rest of the gen will, be, will devs just rush out half broken poorly running versions of games to the base PS5 because they can use the crutch of "oh it's so much better on the pro?" Or will they ignore the pro because it's less than 10% of their sales base and not worth catering to?
Looks to me like FF7 Rebirth was not made for the PS5 but for the PS5 PRO and more so the next gen PS6. Hey let's make a game that is overall blurry at 60fps, but not blurry at 30fps so long as there is no motion.
Games do not have to look blurry, out of focus, or with a vaseline covered lens to be able to be played at a smooth non camera motion blur 60fps. Developers need to start with a minimum of sharp 60fps and then add in settings options for those that want to degrade the image with blur, grain effect, chromatic aberration, narrow field of view, depth of field blur, and the option to display text in teeny tiny sizes.
So is implicitly telling us that it is ok to release a poorly optimized PS5 game because the Pro will fix everything by AI?
@carlos82 yea, that's brutal. i haven't looked into the japanese price, but considering the base unit continues to increase in japan 4 years on, it might be pretty bad there too.
@NEStalgia absolutely right about that. the era of optimization and devs putting in the effort is long over for the console space (outside of 1st party output mostly). that was one of the prime benefits of being a console gamer for decades. after the first half of the ps4 era, something changed. it's now all about bruteforceing to the finish line.
@Dalamar PREACH!!!!
I honestly don't see much of a difference but my priorities are gameplay > writing > graphics.
I won't be buying a PS5 Pro.
@get2sammyb also the more frames u have u actually get a more stable image leading to better quality learned that from digital foundry 😁
It must be me but I'd much rather developers spent their time on designing fun new gameplay mechanics, than always trying to get grass or reflections to look sharper. I just don't care, I just want good games that I haven't already played.
@Porco
Comparing apples to apples. I'm not using sales tax as it differs from province to province.
PS5 Pro (digital) - 949 CAD
PS5 Slim Digital - 579 CAD
The difference is - 370 CAD difference, or 272 USD instead of 250 USD I already said so yes the exchange does change the actual difference by $21 (oh no I won't eat at Tim Hortons for 2 days)
Besides this is still less than the price of an Oasis ticket that people have no problem buying...lol...
I did not address the rest of your comment but as for the PS4 generation and the PS4 Pro. I did not get a Pro and I did not feel like I was left behind at all. Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead Redemption 2, all looked just as good on my launch PS4 as I could have expected from them.
@InfidelFrigidstraigh I'm with you. The picture of Tifa and Red shows barely any difference on all three versions.
But not worth £700
@Torque Exactly
I can see a small difference on the two faceshots of Tifa, but the three at the bottom look exactly the same to me lol
@Intr1n5ic
Sony, a TV manufacturer first and a console maker second:
I can't believe how blurry the 60 fps mode is at ps5, maybe I'll get this game after ps5 pro launch, if the console didn't cost too much in my country. I know youtube compression suck but I can see clearly on my 4K tv the difference between ps5 60 fps mode vs ps5 60 fps mode.
I like the first remake but kind of disappointed with the pararell story so I haven't buy the second one.
Nice that we'd have to spend at least $780 to finally get what the Performance mode should have been all along, or at least close enough to what it looks like on the Pro. It's not that they needed more powerful hardware. They either needed a new engine or a competent development team.
There's no excuse why it looks so bad on base PS5. There are many examples of games running on the PS5 that look and run far superior. This game is a prime example of why I'll always say that we didn't need a mid-gen upgrade. We just need more competent third party developers/game engines. It'd be different if there weren't plenty of examples on base PS5 that are far superior to Rebirth from a technical standpoint.
@MikeOrator OK? if you don't see a problem with a 63% increase over the base ps5 (disc) version, all the power to you. but i gave you plenty of reasons why people are critical of sony over this. believe it and don't be surprised
also, most of the games you listed were first party. the takewaway was that 3rd party releases got sloppier as time went on for the base ps4 and that is expected to occur again on the base ps5.
@Intr1n5ic yep and don’t forget you also don’t get to make a decision with your money for more frames a second either. Should we bring up the PS5 hasn’t even been used yet and we don’t need a pro? The Pro memes and jokes won’t end well. PS5 Pro is a sizable update and will have some stunning differences.
Why didnt they showed this on the PS5Pro presentation? lmao
We were all squinting trying to see improvements
@J-Dubs you misunderstand my point. FF7 Rebirth is an edge case on PS5 (not Pro) because it runs at such a low resolution in performance mode. It’s literally one of the worst PS5 games for that, looking very soft/blurry.
But while that does make it a perfect candidate for showing what PS5 Pro can potentially do - the step up IS impressive - the reality is most current games don’t start so low-res and are unlikely to look so different as we’ve seen in all the other examples they’ve shown.
I don't really care about this, because I think it's really weird to look at games like this. But I don't like how we make excuses for bad development. It's not the PS5s fault this game looks like this. It's squares.
I mentioned in another PS5 Pro article that Digital Foundry said the Pro has the equivalent of a 4070. Those cards sell for between 550 and 600. Just the card.
The Pro is also giving you 2TB of high speed storage, a compact size, and one of the best controllers on the market, plus all the other components that go into creating a modern gaming machine.
It also has the PSSR system which can be improved via software updates over time.
For $699, when you realize what you're getting, it's actually a pretty good deal.
@Pranwell I'm with you. It would be because those of us who actually work and make money to buy nice things are... well, working. They on the other hand, can spend time on these boards channeling angst at their inability to afford it by trying to convince themselves they don't see a difference.
Good to hear some tangible improvements. Fingers crossed preordering goes smoothly!
I would be interested in a PS5 Pro patch for the other Final Fantasy game: Final Fantasy 16.
@get2sammyb are we looking at the same pictures they look identical!
And it can be yours, for the low low price of a kidney
@wiiware The story only gets more convoluted and distorted so you're not missing out much
@yohn777 No. I can't see a difference at all from where I'm looking and I stand by that. Reading other people's comments here won't change my perspective.
@Secryt What a stupid condescending comment. Are you really this much of a fanboy that you can't accept other people have different views to you? I work and I can easily afford this but it's not worth the asking price. If you want it then you do you but there's no need to insult those that don't.
Added to ignore and block.
@Buckster Man, I just want a remake of ff7, I don't have problem if it's not a 100% beat by beat story of the psone game, but at least I don't want weird thing in it, like the ghost thing in the ps4 game, or (according to the commercial) multiverse in ps5 games 😕
@Porco
I agree it is expensive, but I don't agree it's not worth it.
@Pranwell
I hope it doesn't sell well though, that way I will have a chance at one and maybe the scalpers will leave it alone. But I have a feeling after finding all the disc drives sold out that this is going to be a runaway success. I will be so mad when all the YouTubers calling the PS5 Pro a collosol failure start showing it off on their channels. I can imagine the titles now.
"I bought a PS5 Pro So You Don't Have To"
"We were Wrong about the PS5 Pro
"The PS5 Pro Makes a Point"
Hipocrites.
@TheFakulty I have to confess I feel exactly like you : my understanding is what the show tried to sell us was "QUALITY MODE, BUT IN 60 FPS".
But even back then my ear just ticked when I heard Cerny saying something like "almost".
And here we are : this is not exactly what they told us. The base resolution seems to be LOWER than the quality mode on PS5.
Lower.
But it is upscaled with some kind of AI magic... et voilà ! A crisp and nice picture at 60 fps, see ?
I guess it's cool. But it's not what I understood when they tried to sell it to me.
I'm really, really torn apart with all this story. I want it. I want to want it. But it's expensive. Like, really expensive. And Sony does not seem to really try to sell it to me.
I bought the disc drive, anyway. Cause I can't take the one from my PS5 Fat (which I'm gonna trade, if I upgrade).
But I'm really, really torn apart.
I need to see other games.
I need to see Black Myth Wukong.
I need to see Cyberpunk.
Sony, please, talk. And fast ! Your september show HAS TO convince me.
This game was never well optimized,,so its not about hardware,,and it never looked particularly great on previous versions.
Not going to pay a grand more to get this game to finally run smooth, plus the fidelity mode on ps5 pro still looks much clearer, pretty sad they cant even on that, make it run and look great.
@RubyCarbuncle I have terrible eyesight and yes you have to blind to not see the difference.
@MikeOrator It's nonsense to worry about that just relax Sony will be making those diskdrives and everyone says nobody wants it. 😁
@wiiware That's why it doesn't sell people are just waiting for it to be complete. It would have been some much cheaper for Square-Enix to make the game a real remake 1 on 1. Make some secret Summons the Rumored Final Sword. In the time they took to make these parts they could have been working on FF17 already.
@MikeOrator I agree the only issue I had was the not included diskdrive. But price wise the increase is not as bad as people make it out to be.
@Flaming_Kaiser Tell me the difference then apart from so called fidelity. The Article says its a vast improvement so what are these vast improvements then?
@RubyCarbuncle
The vast improvement IS the increase in fidelity, FPS and ray tracing. It's almost like you naysayers are WILLFULLY ignoring the differences just to be sour grapes. There is also twice the hard drive space. So ya those are the differences...oh ya...and racing stripes...vroom vroom.
@MikeOrator Naysayer? it's just my opinion and like I said on another Article I'm just going to minimise my commenting here from now on as my opinions clearly upset people. No I stand by what I said. If you want it then go for it, enjoy. I don't want it, it's not worth 800 to me.
As a PS5 owner, I'm confused. Am I missing something? I'm not seeing anything that suggests even the slightest GIANT LEAP that some people are claiming.
Do I have **** in my eyes or something???
@RubyCarbuncle
I don't think it's the opinion. What I have found in my experience is that it is the TONE.
@MikeOrator Ok if you say so. Too tired mentally and physically to be going back and fourth with this. You do you and I'll be me.
@RubyCarbuncle
Last word much. This is exactly what I am saying. Act abrasive and people match that vibe and give it right back. Not fighting on the internet starts with YOU...lol...
@__jamiie
Nobody is claiming a giant leap, we are saying there is a very discernable difference to the good. Like a veil has been lifted from the image and we can make out finer details.
@RubyCarbuncle Congrats. It's not an opinion it's a fact, the quality of pictures are different. If you don't want to believe the truth I literally can't stop you, I'm just letting you know you're wrong. Have a good one dude 👍🏽
It's not at all a "massive improvement" but it is an improvement regardless. Are gamers so starved for improvement in graphics now that said improvements are slower to come (last Gen to this Gen is proof of this) that they'll latch onto anything and call it a "vast inprovement". The amount of sour PS fanboys in these comments that think their "fact" is anything but an opinion is proof that they're not mature enough to have an actual conversation about this. What a cesspool that place has become. Yikes.
The improvement is nice, but it is a MINOR improvement. I could upgrade my PC instead of my PS5 and get better results while spending much less money. A lot of the PS5 Pro price tag is the memory, which is understandable. People deluding themselves that the graphics are THAT much better simply because they are an improvement are alarming at best.
