Update: Head on over to the PS Store and you'll now also be able to redeem Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions on PS5 and PS4. That makes all PS Plus Essential games for September 2024 live and playable now.
Original story: The monthly PS Plus Essential refresh has arrived, making another three PS5, PS4 games available for active members to play. The titles are available in the UK and Europe now, and will be rolled out to the USA later in the day. Here's a quick recap of what's on offer for September 2024:
- Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (PS5, PS4)
- MLB The Show 24 (PS5, PS4) | Review
- Little Nightmares II (PS5, PS4) | Review
MLB The Show 24 and Little Nightmares II can be claimed now, but it seems Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will release later on in the day like a standard launch. As long as you claim them before Tuesday, 1st October 2024, they will be yours to keep and play for as long as you have an active subscription to PS Plus Essential.
As is the Push Square tradition, we conducted a Poll over the weekend to gather your thoughts on the selection for this month. Almost half of you — 45 per cent to be exact — selected the usual option: "It's a crap selection." Only 18 per cent of responders were at least somewhat happy with the lineup, and it's actually Little Nightmares II you're looking forward to playing most.
Will you download the three games on offer for the month, or are they not even worth redeeming really? Let us know in the comments below.

Already bought little nightmare 2 when it's discounted way back then, also not interested in both sport titles. This is not a good month, for $80 a year I expected more 😕
i cant find Quidditch champions on the PSN is that normal ?
@wiiware wait what?
Really you expect more for 80 a year?
Which works out 6.66 a month
And a brand new game, a top tier sports game and a not so bad indie title.
Altogether bought full price would be more than 80, in a single month.
Let alone adding up all the other games for every other month.
Even if 2 out of the 12 months are great months for you, then you've got your monies worth.
I got the MLB platinum a few days ago. If anybody need help just hmu
@Bez87 I already subbed to psplus waay back in ps3 era, where they put uncharted 3 just a couple of month after the game launch, the service cost just $60 and I can find it cheaper in cdkeys. Don't forget psplus is just a glorified rental games service, and you can't choose the game you want to rental.
I just finished Little Nightmares 2 and i quite like it although i needs time to digest the story.
I dont mind a bit of baseball action, if the online is any good.
@yazzika I heard the plat is not so hard on this one. Would you say it’s about a 3/10? I’ve never played a baseball game before, but I’m getting caught up in this Ohtani hype and I might give it a shot…
@wiiware It was PSNow back then and many of us have been subscribers since the initial launch of the service - which was streaming only to start with.
That's just ancient history though, and the three titles each month for £6.66 a month is pretty excellent value for many, even counting the months when nothing really appeals - especially seeing as how you need this service if you want online play and cloud save backups. If you don't think so, just cancel it.
Incidentally, if you buy your PSN credit carefully online (I just type 'cheap psn credit' into google) you normally get about %16 off if you look through the deals (current one is £42 for £50 credit), so that applies to anything you buy including your sub. So that's £5.59 per month - you can't get two decent coffees for that.
I got an MLB courtesy of this deal many years ago , I’ve bought and played everyone since - people talk of Sony developed games ( previous exclusive ) like days gone , gow etc but have never played this ! I believe it’s that good a sports games as the others are in their genre and made me love a sport that previously I nothing about
@Unffclcntrllerpd Thanks for the heads up mate, I'm not normally a sports fan, but I'll give this one a go
after seeing the line up this month I cancelled the yearly ps-plus.
Month after month of dissatisfied this year.
I don't online multiplay or need to cloud save.
I only got it for the free games and many of which I owned and the others ,I wouldn't play or buy and the remaining few not worth the yearly price.
worst of all , was my luck purchasing titles only to find it in psplus 1 or 2 months later.
Will give all 3 of these a go sometime. Never played a Little nightmares game, Love harry Potter so Quidditch interests me and never played a baseball game so MLB is a good place to start. Good month for me in general even if the games wouldnt be my top choice 🤷
@WizzNL which rental allows you to keep games for decades?
Also, when it launched on ps3 the selection was terrible. At first it was a bunch of cheap indies before we got AAA games.
Signed up this weekend for a month of PS+ Extra for $15 to play Lego Star Wars, Crisis Core and most importantly Plucky Squire, may also try to find time for Infamous First Light. I may not even bother adding these 3 to my library. 🤷🏻♂️
Just played an hour of Quidditch - pretty fun!
Only really interested in Plucky Squire which comes to PS Plus day one when it’s out in a few weeks.
Hoping they announce some good classic games for this month as well
@WizzNL when you rent a game, you're supposed to return it at some point. Not keep it forever as long as you're paying for your membership. Even Netflix removes shows all the time, so paying for a subscription doesn't mean you get to see a show you like for as long as you have an active subscription.
In other words, ps+ has always been different from a rental service.
@Bez87 Cloud save + multiplayer access cost $20/year for Nintendo. Assuming you don’t care about the free games, it’s 4 times more expensive on PS. Not even mentioning the lack of family account. So yeah, PS+ is not a great deal for most people.
Hmm, it only added PS4 version of MLB'24 for me! Did this happen to anyone else ?
MLB ain’t showing for free for me
@Frmknst It kind of worthless if the games isn't good, not because the game itself but because the type of game it is. Sport games are worthless because the fans bought it day one, and people that didn't like it won't buy (and play) it at all. Little nightmare 2 is good though, but it already discounted years ago.
@Dragoon1994 yeah can wait to play that game, going play it after finishing astro bot.
@WizzNL psn plus only came into being towards the end of the ps3's life time. Psn was free for the majority of the ps3 era and if I remember correctly psn+ (the paid sub model) was only around for maybe 2 years before the ps4 launched. I think I got a few months free as an introduction but I never continued with it. Online play on the ps3 was incredibly unreliable at times as it was pretty much peer to peer connectivity and required a rock solid host to run half decently.
@Titntin I'm on the middle tier and I think it's pretty good value for me personally. Not every month is great granted but I always find that most titles appeal to me and if I added up how much those games would actually cost me to purchase even taking into account sale prices it would still cost me more than the subs price. Once again you make a sensible, valid point.
@KyushuTrail honestly it's even a 2/10 or less. The plat is super easy and comes 95% by playing naturally. But you do need to know how baseball works.
@wiiware there's 12 months in a year... No need for the depressed act! There's been plenty of content and will continue to be. Some of you lot are ridiculous.
@daveofduncan Not for me since I didn't plan to continue my psplus subs, I only need the cloud save afterall. I guess I'll backup manually with usb stick monthly now 😃
Loving the quidditch one so far. It is a lot of fun
