This is a pretty neat but predictable feature considering the subject material: upcoming PS5 horror A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead will feature an optional microphone toggle, which will detect any ambient sounds you make in real-life and consequently reveal your position in the game. That means any sneezes, coughs, sighs, or sudden interruptions from family members could prove fatal as you play through the campaign.
While we can’t imagine many people will be using this – why would you make the game harder for yourself? – we’re glad developer Stormind Games has gone the extra mile to include it. It reminds us of the motion control feature in Until Dawn which forces you to keep your hands steady in certain moments; an annoying gameplay mechanic, maybe, but it’s always fun to break the fourth wall and bring the game into your home.
You won’t actually have to wait too long to try this for yourself, because The Road Ahead will release on 17th October for a relatively low price point of £24.99/$29.99. While we haven’t got access to the title yet, we’re hoping to bring you a review closer to launch, so stay tuned for that. We’ll even be sure to check out this microphone feature for our report!

This reminds me of manhunt i think. I believe it had that feature as well. Could be mistaken
It would be kind of neat if it could be used to misdirect enemies. Well, neat for a few minutes, and then I’d probably just want to push a button.
@Ashkorsair It did! Well remembered!
A nice little feature, imagine this in the Alien Isolation sequel 😅
I hope this is a fun AA game. I'm interested. Love the films. I'll keep my eye on the reviews. Could be like Alien Isolation
Great idea to use the dualsense controller.
I think it’s a great idea. VR should do this more too.
It adds immersion and makes you be in-character more.
@Ashkorsair came here just to say this. I remember using the Socom headset on the PS2 to play it
@Jacko11 I'm almost certain this was in the game already.
I love this. Probably not a game for me, but always a sucker for little immersion experiments.
Hideo Kojima approves this.
Didn’t alien isolation do this? I never made it far enough into the game for my constant farting to give away my location but I thought it was a neat feature that my beefs could lead to my death and the person sitting next to me.
@zupertramp I didn’t know that 😲
downloads Alien Isolation again
I am So glad you can turn the mic and speaker off on the ps5 controller. Shame I can't do the same for the lights.
Great controller but some Of the gimmicks....
I love this idea but I live in an apt with constant noice from neighbors, construction or street sounds. I wouldn't last more than 5 minutes at a time.
