This is a pretty neat but predictable feature considering the subject material: upcoming PS5 horror A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead will feature an optional microphone toggle, which will detect any ambient sounds you make in real-life and consequently reveal your position in the game. That means any sneezes, coughs, sighs, or sudden interruptions from family members could prove fatal as you play through the campaign.

While we can’t imagine many people will be using this – why would you make the game harder for yourself? – we’re glad developer Stormind Games has gone the extra mile to include it. It reminds us of the motion control feature in Until Dawn which forces you to keep your hands steady in certain moments; an annoying gameplay mechanic, maybe, but it’s always fun to break the fourth wall and bring the game into your home.

You won’t actually have to wait too long to try this for yourself, because The Road Ahead will release on 17th October for a relatively low price point of £24.99/$29.99. While we haven’t got access to the title yet, we’re hoping to bring you a review closer to launch, so stay tuned for that. We’ll even be sure to check out this microphone feature for our report!
