Ubisoft pushed game update 1.3.0 live for Star Wars Outlaws in recent hours, ostensibly to continue improving the game's stealth mechanics, amongst other things. Unfortunately, a PS5 screen tearing bug also made its way in, with players quickly noticing the telltale "rippling" effect while the game is in motion and navigating menus.
Kotaku raised the alarm on this one, noting players on platforms like X and Reddit were reporting the issue. Apparently, the problems are particularly pronounced while playing in performance mode, which is probably most people on PS5. The community has already tried various home remedies, such as restarting, disabling 120Hz, and switching to 40fps, to no avail.
In a pretty damning indictment of the current state of things, on the game's subreddit, one fan wrote: "I just hope this gets fixed soon as the visuals are the only thing that the game really has going for it and having to deal with screen tearing is just getting in the way of enjoying the game overall."
Have you had a chance to fire up Star Wars Outlaws since the latest patch went live? Will Ubisoft catch a break one of these days? Let us know in the comments section below.

Ubi gonna Ubi 🤷♂️
Only Ubisoft breaks their games 2 months after launch instead of patching them…
I honestly didn't notice it this morning when I was playing it after the patch, but it had to have been there, so I guess I'm not as sensitive to it as some are.
Not quite sure the "damning indictment" quote needed to be included in the article @Khayl, especially when it's a flat out lie. It's actually an entertaining game, and it's gotten more than enough negativity thrown at it without having to include that in an article for no reason. Yes, including this in today's patch is obviously bad, but that's not the game's fault.
Remember, folks, it was the market's fault for this not selling as well as they expected.
The game really is one of the worst Star Wars games I ever played. I really don't even have the interest to finishing it.
@Medic_alert I already saw it at $30 on disc, it’s gonna be $10 in a month lmao
@KilloWertz, you are entitled to your opinion, mate, but it's just that, doesn't make someone else's invalid or a lie I think the quote illustrates a sentiment a lot of players are feeling. Glad you are enjoying the game!
It looks to me that there went something wrong with the VRR implementation.
Bruh screen tearing during the ps3 xbox 360 era was terrible man I hate that *****
I really wish we had PS3 backwards compatibility, I could revisit some golden oldies while waiting 2-3 years for " modern games" to get fixed.
Starting to doubt PS5 pro being worth it if it takes then years to get a game stable....
@KilloWertz sure just ubi foult. Jesus! Another fanboy?
OH the DRAMA people ! They’ll fix it. Problem solved.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that I try to avoid conversations around certain games and companies because of the negativity around it, whether deservedly or not. I bought this game, but haven’t played it yet. I’m waiting for a good downtime. I’m sure by then the patches will have improved the game. I’m looking forward to jumping in, perhaps around Christmas time.
plays Metaphor ReFantazio and happily resists wasting money on more Ubislop
Going by the DF performance review, amongst other reviews, it doesnt really have framerate or visuals 'going for it' either...
@KilloWertz this game is a solid 7/10 everyone acts like it’s a 2 🤣
@KilloWertz we can all just laugh at dumb things like this on this videogames enthusiast site.
@IamJT I mean I personally will be picking it up on a sale. I think the vitriol is pretty funny considering how many people have been saying the same thing. Like you already said you haven't bought the game or played the game because you are waiting on a sale. No real reason to keep dunking on it. I don't think this article is that though. Push would have reported on this if it happened to a sacred cow like GoT too.
Such potential to be such a good game. I was looking forward to this one, but held off and am glad I did. So sad. Picked Up Jedi Survivor Instead the same week this launched, dam was I happy playing that game. So good.
@Vladspartan Why do I automatically have to be a Ubisoft fanboy just because I'm defending the game against a quote I think is ridiculous?
@Khayl Actually, it can be a lie when it is literally false. Or whatever you want to call it. Also, no, the person's quote is not how a lot of people are feeling about the game. There have been plenty of people here that actually enjoyed the game. Obviously not everybody, but the vast majority of the negativity here has been from people who haven't even played the game. As for people outside of here, that is not even close to what the majority have said. With a lot of people playing it in Performance mode, there's been far more criticism of the game's graphics and issues people have with the stealth gameplay.
@IamJT Yeah, after finishing it tonight, I think it's safely a 7/10. That's not a bad thing at all. A lot of the negativity here stems from people who haven't even played it.
@LikelySatan The comments on this site have taken a hit the past few years. It is 99% negative and without any actual insight or discussion. It is unfortunate really.
Edit: also I thought Push’s 6/10 was a totally fair review, I only ranked it one point higher but I enjoyed it and got the plat.
@KilloWertz Sometimes a seven just hits. Alan Wake 2 was an absolute 10/10 for me but I don’t expect, or even want that, from every game. Sometimes I just want a simple dumb game that will hit the spot. Outlaws filled that perfectly.
@Drago201
funny you should mention that era. Because in built up areas that's exactly what it looks like. ps3 graphics. such a shame.
@Galv 🤣 you must have had a magical PS3. This game has run of the mill graphics but it, of course, blows the best PS3 game out of the water.
@CallMeDuraSouka
Honestly i have the same opinion. only about the ps5. which i sadly bought.
@IamJT
the first hub town you go in to has such blurred graphics. 720p at best surely.
@IamJT Exactly, and that's a pretty fair opinion
When it was initially announced, my expectations were higher than what we were given, but at the end of the day I still enjoyed playing it all the way through. That's what matters in the end for the most part.
@Torque I didn't like it when 1sr started. Had an hour or 2 of thinking it's not too bad then thought no I really don't like this and traded it in
@KilloWertz I'm with you buddy, I didn't notice it last night but accept I must be in the minority or just lucky.
@Elitepatriot The EA Jedi games are fantastic and the second was even better than the first for me, I do prefer action to stealth but Outlaws is good fun if or when you get around to it.
Yeah, it's just a numbers game in the grand scheme of things, I rate most games 6/10, which is ok in my honest opinion.
@ShogunRok This sums up Ubisoft perfectly right now xD
@KilloWertz The game clearly was now finished yet. With all these big patches makes it even more clear. This game should have cooked in the oven a few months extra.
A polished ***** is still *****.
@rusty82 You're lucky you didn't go digital.
@Torque I honestly don't believe you've even played a minute of it.
@Almost_Ghostly The same I can say about you. I'm up to the mission The Truth. More like the torture. Seriously not one good aspect to this game. Even the score of the soundtrack is just horrendous.
I had this issue after update...😔
@Torque Thanks for confirming you haven't played it. lol
Annnnnnnnd the screen tearing has already been taken care of with hotfix patch 1.3.1.
@Almost_Ghostly thanks for confirming I'm talking to babies. You must really like having to get to Death Troopers across the map just to finally get your save back, not knowing what item Nix is going to pick up until you press the fetch button (oh look another grenade I don't want), invisible walls galore falling to a black and white death, over confusing menus and space mission quest mix ups at the same time, out of area count downs while in the galaxy lol lol lol, food we can only eat once off, lock picking that isn't fun even on the easiest settings, weapons we cant even store on our speeder, more bugs than Starship Troopers, bland humor thanks to the bland writing, I still haven't even seen a Wookie, an upgrade system with no xp and more of a chore, music that even makes The Acolyte seem right, not having the option to explore all planets as originally advertised, I'm not even going to mention the negatives that would get you band in this day of age, lame characters, lame Nix lame gunplay, lame customization (hey look more man pants), lifeless planets that you can't even kill the giant aliens running around, this wall of text that's like the walls climbing the game's mountains, I don't even care not being a Jedi knight though not even distant events or Easter eggs to see lightsabers. I could go on and on, but I'll let you keep on enjoying this hot steaming pile mess of a game haha.
@Flaming_Kaiser We can definitely agree there. While I enjoyed Outlaws for the most part from beginning to end, it was released earlier than it should've been. Not quite sure what the rush was either. It'll probably keep there from being a sequel, which is a bit of a shame.
@KilloWertz The game looked fine but with so many games releasing fine is not gonna cut it anymore now.
You only get one first impression and im on the same page why the rush. Stop the insane amount of editions the weird things like a online connection to install the game.
I would love to see a quality game that isn't a complete mess at the release and no yeah they will patch it later.
Why even buy a game at full price if its never completely done and full with bugs it's a waste of money.
@Torque "Talking to babies"... said the guy who has never played the game and then wrote a 256 word single paragraph rant comprised of copy/paste complaints from various places around the net. LOL!
@Almost_Ghostly If you think that s copy and paste and don't understand the irony and my impatience with SWO, then I have little more to say to you, just as much as everyone else. By the time it even took you to reply back, I even finished it and still think of it the same. So you either work for the company or have no clue.
@Torque Ahhh, the good ole "You must work for them!!!" line. How original. Your continual childish comments continue to further my case. The game is an absolutely horrendous *$%#fest, yet you continued to play it for anywhere from approx. 18-60 hours depending on side quests, etc? Okayyyy then, but lol. And the copy/paste comment? That wasn't meant to be literal. I was saying that you went around online scouring for a bunch of negative comments others had and then used them to comprise your short story about how God awful it is.
@Almost_Ghostly Here's another line for you. "Are you OK?"
Just so you know, which you'll probably also call BS, I supported the game before release and even bought the Deluxe Gold Edition. Also just cause a game is bad, doesn't mean I'd stop playing it. Ride to Hell: Retribution on PS3 was bad, but I finished that all the way through. At least that was funny. ForeSpoken was bad, but I platted that. Doesn't seem you're much of a gamer.
So here's a shot for you, what do you like about the game? Let's see if you played SWO then. And if you want to know what's the only good aspect of it from my perspective, is your ship. Being able to freely roam around in it and get into the pilots sit is cool, but that's about it.
@Almost_Ghostly Ah yes, just as I thought. I stand correct then. You haven't played it. 🤣
@Torque You stand correct of absolutely nothing. I don't owe you anything but keep pretending like I do. I'm not answering your questions because it's amusing to see how upset it makes you. Hope you feel better soon. Just remember it can't rain all the time. Things will get better, I promise.
@Almost_Ghostly Aaaaand you still haven't answered my question. I'm guessing at your age of 53 things could be confusing. Never said you owe me anything, but I'll still give you a comforting light pat on the back.
