PS5 Pro is out today, and if you'd like to put Sony's shiny new machine through its paces, it sounds like Gran Turismo 7 might fit the ticket. Developer Polyphony Digital appears to have a handle on that extra horsepower; GT7 runs at a native 4K, 120fps on PS5 Pro, and that's without the all-important Enhanced patch required to join the illustrious ranks of other games already raring to go.
That's according to the digital mechanics over at Digital Foundry (thanks, PSU) and allowed by the PS5 Pro's Game Boost feature. Editor John Linneman had the following to say on the subject: "GT7’s patch hasn’t launched yet, and I decided to try it out, and what was interesting is that you can run it at native 4K mode in the 120 FPS mode and it now achieves a completely locked 120 FPS playback in 4K mode. Previously, it was in the 80-90 FPS range with the uncapped VR mode; now it’s just flat 120."
What do you think? Is your body conditioned to handle that kind of speed and power? Will you be checking out Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 Pro? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sounds incredible! Just picked up a copy of GT7
Dude that's a last gen game lol and it's through "boost mode" you mean the ps5 pro is doing what series X has been doing for 4 years? With so many titles running at 4k 120fps and enhanced with boost mode, plus many are graphically enhanced to a remastered game level for free, just one of the many Xbox features. Do not use native and boost in the same phrase, either it's native or not. and clearly it's a last gen game, look at Alan Wake 2, ps5 struggles at 800p upscaled.
@alienwithin It's not game boost, it's a PS5 Pro patch.
@alienwithin you seem to be mistaken. GT7 is a current-gen game, however it was built in such a way that it could easily be parred down to run on last-gen hardware thanks to PDs game engine. Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed this is interviews just before GT7s release.
A lot of development studios build games using engines that existed in previous generations. The only thing that makes a game current-gen vs. last-gen is wether or not it was built with current-gen as the base, to take advantage of the hardware, which GT7 definitely was.
But it still can't do Elden Ring at 60fps. If it can't even do that, and PCs can, it seems pretty underwhelming.
https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-can-ps5-pro-run-elden-ring-at-60-frames-per-second
"A lot of the game will run at 60fps, but it's hardly consistent and for the most part you're in the 50s - though truly challenging scenes can take you into the 40s". That's not performance mode, but apparently even that mode can't maintain it.
120 is great if they mean vr mode. The I do hope they also clean up the visuals because I'm vr it's pretty darned blurry from mid distance on .
It’s a PS4 game so nothing to really brag about. While pro owners will enjoy it no doubt. I hope the next Gran Turismo is for a current generation console and not developed for cross generation consoles. It would be very nice to get GT8 developed for the PS5 only.
Does this mean VR performance is enhanced?
@DonkeyFantasy I'm really enjoying gt7 or gt sport directors cut or whatever..its a seriously cool game with a steering wheel and I'm just itching to get my new t598 to use it on. Regardless of whatever you think of this game nobody can dispute its one of the best simcade racers out there..and my stats are not great but the grin factor is off the charts..Happy days unless you skipped this generation 🤣.
@Vaako007 it would be nice to get all new games developed for the ps5 only..
@TrickyDicky99 another console generation for you to skip then eh?
I can't wait to try this in GT7 and despite what some think, it's a much better game than GT Sport was. Fingers crossed they don't remove this option when the true Pro patch comes
@TrickyDicky99 all joking and banter aside I often wonder when reading your comments (a few I've agreed with but not a lot) if you are actually happy with your ps5 because you never appear to be. You think I'm some kind of Sony zealot but I'm not. Sony has done many things I'm not happy with but I won't knock someone or something without good reason and that includes you. You talk about sonys predatory consumerism along with a couple of other posters but you all still buy games and partake in conversations here. If you really were unhappy with Sony you'd have nothing to do with the brand at all unless you are here just to troll others. Anyway I understand your edgy attempt at sarcasm which is why I never really take anything you say too seriously and you've demonstrated you can take some banter too. 👍
@TrickyDicky99 well if it was a gift and the only ps5 game you've played was free then exactly why are you so down on Sony? It's not as if this generation has cost you anything. It literally makes no sense to me but you wouldn't really care anyway so I'll just leave you to it as I'm off to work..enjoy your day if you can 👍
That's pretty amazing.
@TrickyDicky99 Sony have released and published a fair amount of games this gen though. This year alone has seen Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2, Astro Bot and Rise of Ronin and that's not even including 3rd party timed deals like Rebirth and Silent Hills 2 and Indies like V Rising and Pacific Drive.
@TrickyDicky99 actually gt7 released on the ps5 and then the ps4 version launched which got people in a tizz because it was a ps5 exclusive up until then..
@TrickyDicky99 Returnal and Demons Souls Remake and FW's Expansion as well. Games take longer to make now its what happens, its why Sucker Punch will most likely only have one game this Gen like Naughty Dog. Still more then MS and i suggest you look at the first few years of the PS4 because that wasn't rich with 1st party games either.
Damn I can’t wait to try this. I just hope the data transfer is faster than re-downloading the game so I can get into it as fast as possible. I don’t finish work until 7pm and I’m usually flat out by 10:30 lol
@TrickyDicky99 "Returnal and Demon's Souls were not made by Sony owned studios at the time of release, Sony bought them after"
Both games was made by Sony owned studios.
Japan Studio was heavily involved in Demon's Souls remake development and i believe XDevs also helped Housemarque with Returnal development.
So yes, it's safe to say both games are made by Sony owned studios despite at that time Housemarque and Bluepoint aren't yet owned by Sony.
@TrickyDicky99 Funded, published and owned by Sony so might as well be 1st party. No one argues Bloodborne, Spidey 1 and the Ratchet games weren't Sony games so why should we with Returnal and Demons Souls?
@TrickyDicky99 no need as it's not something that's ever bothered me. I'm relatively new to gt7 as I only bothered with it because I bought a steering wheel setup and I'll be purchasing the t598 soon. I'm happy and you are not..let's agree to disagree..
@TrickyDicky99 That's not how first party works and it never has been.
Smash Bros is absolutely a first party Nintendo game despite not being made by a Nintendo-owned studio.
Microsoft Flight Simulator is absolutely a first party Microsoft game despite not being made by a Microsoft-owned studio.
Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers (and Returnal, and Spider-Man 1) are exactly the same thing - IP owned by Sony, development contracted out, is a first party game,
@TrickyDicky99 In my opinion GT Sports is barely a GT game since it lacks single player content. GT7 is not perfect, but it's way better than Sports.
@TrickyDicky99 oh so you can play PSVR2 with GT Sport on your PS4 can you?
Are the physics & weather systems the same as Sport?
If you haven’t got the game, then you can’t comment.
There’s way more content in GT7 & you’ve got Sophy AI on a lot of the tracks & in game raytracing on the PS5 Pro only.
Just because you have an engine that’s scalable to old hardware & new - like COD, No Man’s Sky, etc doesn’t mean it’s old gen.
But yeah you do you & keep enjoying GT Sport. It was a great game. GT7 is just better, but you’ll never know.
I don't understand all the people who permanently complain about the "no-ps5 exclusives" or "too small iterative improvements."
Personally I think gt7 is superior over gt sport in every way, and I had more fun playing it. I also really liked the gt7 café. Initially I thought it was a ridiculous idea, but in the end it is a fun way to get guided through a series of races. Then there is the wonderful VR mode. Already for that it is worth getting gt7 over gt sport.
Concerning the ps5 in general, besides all other improvements, most obvious for me are the vastly shortened loading times. Gone are the times to wait for several minutes until rd2 loaded after You died! Then on the more subtle level immersion is greatly enhanced by the controller haptics and the 3D audio. It is less obvious, only when going back to older system it is very obvious that something is missing.
Concerning the catalogue, the step from ps3 to ps4 felt like a real generational jump because the entire ps3 catalogue was stuck on the ps3 and the effort to port ps3 games to ps4 was too big, and most studios did not attempt that. The shift from ps4 to ps5 felt less significant, because at launch there were only a handful of ps5 titles, but 4000 ps4 games also running on ps5. In many cases those games automatically looked better when running on a ps5 instead of ps4(pro), additionally diminishing the difference between the two generations. And one should not forget the mid-gen refresh which also reduced the gap to two half steps. From an architecture point of view ps4 and ps5 are much closer than ps3 and ps4. As a consequence it is much easier to get more or less the same game running on ps5 and ps4. Still the differences are sometimes quite large. Personally I really liked the ps5 versions of forbidden west, gt7, ff7 remake, death stranding, cyberpunk (and many others) and playing those games on ps4(pro) would not do these games justice.
Anyway why buy a playstation, xbox or pc if You can play nearly all then games on a switch or via cloud streaming on Your phone ? Same game == same experience or isn't it ?
Anyone that says GT7 isnt as good as Sport is absolutely laughable. The games are night and day in every single way. Sport was good...... if you liked racing online.
I also enjoy GT7, and gaming in general. You wouldn’t think it’s an enjoyable way to spend time going off some of the comments though.
This sounds very impressive, really intrigued to see how this effects the psvr2, especially after the proper patch!
It's already one of the best, most immersive games in VR.
@Papa_Emeritus do you like to hit the square button with a hammer?
Would love to try it out, however Sony was not yet able to provide us with disc drives for months. Keep up the good work.
@TrickyDicky99 Certainly not. In the first months the single player was very disappointing, but it has become great in the meantime and is still developing. I was very critical on it as well, but have spend over 100 (well spend) hours in it now.
@TrickyDicky99
"If GT8 releases after the PS6 and is a PS5 game, then yes, I will not be buying it
I've never bought a last gen game after buying a new console"
Then you will likely not buy many games going forwards, as more than likely we will be looking at iterative updates on consoles going forwards, with virtually no generation exclusivity at all.
Big shock a PlayStation 4 game runs really well on a PlayStation 5 Pro
@NEStalgia
Not sure about this game, but if VR games can hit higher fps naturally then it will mean that reprojection isn’t needed and a lot of the “blur” will magically disappear (away from the edges anyway). Here’s hoping devs care enough!
@TrickyDicky99 "If GT8 releases after the PS6 and is a PS5 game, then yes, I will not be buying it
I've never bought a last gen game after buying a new console"
Still torturing yourself for no reason I see. Cross-gen games living rent free in your head.
Today I learnt that GT Sport had at least one insufferable die hard fan, good to know!
Some utter nonsense being spouted in these comments from the usual suspects.
The fact that this improvement is made without any patch for the pro is impressive to me. I'm hoping the patch will further refine and improve things.
For those that don't even like the game, why the hell are you here dumping on it like it slapped your mum? Your spreading of toxic negativity when you have no stake in it, is simply pathetic.
@TrickyDicky99 So u missed out on ragnarok and Horizon forbidden west? What a strange view on games you have. U loved GT sport but then don't buy the newer release.
@TrickyDicky99 Well it seems you should bow out of the gaming space, clearly this isn't for you anymore.
@TrickyDicky99 This is weird. Gran Turismo 7 is waaaaaaay better than Sport and has a looooooooot more of content.
@Vault_Mcfly 100%. This is actually the only time I have ever heard someone try to say Sport is the better game. Especially with so much zeal.
That's not a great leap forward, because the law of diminishing returns applies. The difference between 90Hz and 120Hz is not as significant as 30Hz and 60Hz.
@TrickyDicky99 "GT7 has earned the nickname GT Sport Directors Cut".
Well, I'm glad I skipped Sport for the better version, then. Feel sorry for you, though.
@Thumper "The difference between 90Hz and 120Hz is not as significant as 30Hz and 60Hz."
Not true if you're using v-sync. In this scenario, the framerate would be bouncing between 60 and 120 Hz, which actually looks worse than a stable 60 Hz.
Maybe you assume that every 120 Hz display supports VRR, which would solve this issue, but that is also not true. Most early 120 Hz TVs did not support VRR.
Btw, love the profile name/picture. Thumper was one of my first VR experiences, and it immediately sold me on the platform.
THE PS5 PRO IS INCREDIBLLLLLLLLLLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I drove a few laps and can confirm. Also, the 2022 Porsche 911 GT-3 is the best car in the game. Take that, Italian car guys.
So new games that are not old games? Just an idea Sony, you used to have good ones😅
Ah old games till the next few come out to actually be new and for PS5 Pro because they have devs that wanted to do things with the hardware and they are.
Gamers may find it annoying and go I don't want to play this again/or can't wait to play this again for comparison. But it varies per person.
Or us that couldn't care less about the hardware at all and sharpness/more foliage that just read articles anyways. XD
May look nice, doesn't change the content/progression system being the reason I refuse to play it. PSVR2 is nice but for garbage progression of GT5/Forza 6 you bet I hate GT7's design.
Maybe if it's 2 years away from servers changing and going offline like GT Sport did to then detail it on the GT wiki and the game is cheap I'll consider it but I still hate it.
GT Sport was eh but still better designed even if was more boring then past titles.
@DonkeyFantasy GT Sport, with GT5's leveling system but worse, tell me a GT game that restricted car parts in it, I can't name one but GT7 & FM6 roulette system but even more extreme of the parts. That was just for the mods in FM6, not car parts & invitations or whatever being restricted. Tell me how it's not a cash grab in progression system alone & intended to be played for so much longer. Sure you can work for it it's not paywall forced but still. GT Sport had more effort put in with it's no past game tracks. GT7 has less content (even if building it up both games over time). A bunch of new menus & structure isn't a lot of change then the 'under the hood' actual changes/additions.
At least GT Sport had the toggle PS store icon off I do appreciate that. No idea if GT7 has that. Was music rally fun? I thought it was ok, could have been better.
GT 7 looks better then other racing games content wise of variety but still disappoints I find in a few areas.
That & the default settings really don't help, so removing the auto-help (has a place but wasn't the best, I turned it off after I noticed and it wasn't that great for teaching players/winning either) for sure (hated it in FM1-7 so I turn it off in GT Sport). It's no Mario Kart but different audience the auto-help is for & other details of design too.
Then again I haven't enjoyed B Spec in GT5/6 & GT4 was awkward but still work better. Can't say for Sophy & it's use cases or Drivevatars for Forza.
I don't know if GT Sport has the customisation on the box but in a way they removed that system. All they had to do was remove the network access yet they removed the achievements (eased on the grind so it's even more grinding now in 1.69), they removed the livery tools, user generated content access I can understand but the whole livery tools work in 1.68 OFFLINE. I did my research between builds for the GT wiki. I know how 1.68 to 1.69 operated of the livery tools, the access to content in offline of saving, the dealership (I get for cheating/save file editing and so on and the exploits are obvious even in GT7 early on as well XD) lack of access and the dealership was reworked because you can't play the game at all without it.
No platinum access due to the sport mode sportsman ship videos or the livery customisation is hit and miss, you can go without them but even still.
At least PSVR support was available in offline regardless if that wasn't available then people could sue for it as it's on the banner of the box art.
You can't even advance the challenges second half if you don't have progression in 1.0 to 1.68. I paid very close attention between the offline state prior, the online state and 1.69 offline state as the end of the game that's more accessible (which I do appreciate).
It's backwards track selection screen is weird enough but the progression system comparison is obvious enough as it is to milk people's time too long then it needs to be.
How many tracks have they added? How many cars can you use on repeated tracks? I hate the look of them but that's besides the point.
Part 2:
They offer more variety of event types then FM 8/Series or other modern racing games (or others take months to make niche modes/vehicles no one plays of iRacing/R Factor or others on PC so that's always something...) but to me that's not saying much as to me ALL racing games have cut back on modes to be graphics/progression or 'better physics' that's totally fine but the content to me is so lacking 8th gen+ I go back to 5-7th gen with actually innovative & exciting mechanics.
I have more fun & excitement than I do a single modern racing game. Nostalgic Indie ones/big budget ones disappoint to me. Or safe games like Hot Lap Racing/praised like Wreckfest that is fine but so safe & boring at times Flatout or other of that era still are more fun with the throw your driver at the targets. Stuntman just recreating films in universe. Where is the creative anymore? Wreckfest has sofa/buses/trucks etc. to drive, derbies & racing...... Most games have a racing/time trial mode and that it. Wow what content variety/excitement when better ideas were offered before they just got left behind.
GT7 at least has more modes than other games but it still has eh progression. Where is my PGR 2 walkable dealership (minor thing besides it's regular car selection menu)? Not that cutscene for the dealership and that's it. Friend of mine thought it meant VR in that. I knew that wasn't going to happen & I was right.
Less modes/content pushed slowly over time (then waiting more years for a complete game) to milk us & more broken games even esports wise it gets broken and IP leaked but it gets a pass? It's why I refuse to buy many of them, less content because too much graphics or other focus time.
Juiced 2 has 3 different drift modes/rules let alone other stuff, regardless of how 'saucy' it is it has content variety.
WRC 3 I went wow this campaign is a lot of fun with it's variety of modes. 4 or others are so safe and barren in comparison. Teams/licenses are one thing I get it. Mixing it up is another but even still.
Even MotoGP besides the difficulty of later games I just play the challenges and 16 I played the dirt bike/rally stuff because the motogp bikes are so hard to play. Ride 4, too hard to play but has the Forza Motorsport 1 & 2 region system so that's cool. WRC 2023 may be what it is to either person ubt i mean I've wanted a Sega GT/Apex 2003/Pure ATV builder feature in a game for YEARS so Codemasters delivered. Where is the mechanically innovation?
Dirt 3 I had more fun with the content, Dirt 5 has 99% races and 2 obstacle courses (from my experience & no DLC I don't buy DLC), 3 had plenty of variety & a sandbox with 3 areas split up with different tasks, Dirt 5 doesn't even have that or others are so barren & repetitive. Grid Legends was safe but better than 2019 I was happy enough with that.
Couldn't care less how it plays if the content/space to use the cars is so barren in comparison, it's like a skating game/platformer being boring to play & stripping content is kind of how I feel.
Even if tracks take a long time to make which is understandable, why not make more modes & recycle the same spaces instead? Make up a bunch of cone/gate/fuel/other unique ideas for challenges or something else? They have license tests/challenges. Ah too much time to prototype & they don't have that kind of time so content drops of other kinds instead.
