The Game Awards is undoubtedly the talk of the town today, not least because of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion's controversial inclusion as Game of the Year nominee. Sony, and by extension, PlayStation, are set to continue dominating Geoff Keighley's award show, with first-party titles nominated every year for the past decade; the firm is also leading the pack as the publisher with the most nominations.
The Game Awards revealed the list of most nominated publishers, and PlayStation is out in front with 16. Square Enix and Xbox are tied at 12, with SEGA making a welcome appearance in third with 11. Bandai Namco and Nintendo fill out the top four and five spots, with seven and six, respectively.
The vast majority of Sony's nominations come from Astro Bot, which is up for many awards, but Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade also contributed a few each. Two of the five most anticipated upcoming games are from SIE, which we think is quite telling: Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It's probably worth underscoring that nominations for The Game Awards are determined by a panel of over 130 outlets and influencers; Push Square is not one of them.
Are you surprised to see Sony leading the pack with 16 award nominations? What will ultimately win GotY, and why is it Astro Bot? Let us know in the comments section below.

Bizarre to see Nintendo that far down the list.
But i thought PS5 had no games?
@awp69 not really this year, while they had plenty of decent games, they haven't had that big tentpole release for 2024
It's funny since this year for Sony, according to their own words, didn't release a "major" game. But turns out Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, and Helldivers 2 are doing well and collecting nominations.
And yeah next year would be interesting with Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, and who knows if Insomniac can finish Wolverine / Venom.
@Vivisapprentice Knock knock.
Who’s there?
It’s Echoes of Wisdom, here to disagree with you. And it brought its buddy, Brotherhood.
@ear_wig The way I see it is:
Which left Princess Peach Showtime, Echoes of Wisdom and Super Mario Party Jamboree which all got nominations. DLC being eligible was just an excuse to include Erdtree so Splatoon 3 Side Order was unlikely to be nominated.
I really liked Switch 2024 but I'm not surprised that Nintendo's presence at the Game Awards was limited.
Being the best of a slow year doesn’t mean it’s not a slow year.
Shame. Helldivers was a shoe-in for my GotY till post-launch stupidity. Between Sony crapping the bed with the PSN requirement and Arrowheads bone headed 'Balance' patches...total shame.
@ear_wig would hardly call those tentpole releases, they're nowhere near the scale of a 3D Mario or mainline Zelda, and neither are GOTY contenders. On MC the highest rated NIntendo game is actually Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
@MeanBeanEgg
Agreed. Sega has easily been my favorite publisher of for a while now. Pretty much since 2017 with Persona 5. RGG is cooking. Atlus is cooking. Sonic is cooking. They are reviving other old classics like Shinobi and Virtua Fighter...
Yup. It's a good time to be a Sega fan!
Say what you will about the 1st party output from Playstation but the publishing arm has certainly been doing their job this gen. Stellar Blade is my runner-up GOTY only behind Metaphor.They got a good eye for talent over there.
It's Playstation proper that's been a bit all over the place but even then they did put out the excellent Astro Bot. So while it's easy to poke fun at Concord it's not like the year was a total wreck by any means.
It’s been a brilliant year for me. Way too much to play, still haven’t got to half the stuff I’ve bought.
I really hope Astro Bot cleans up. Such an amazing game in almost every way.
I also hope Final Fantasy Rebirth does well too.
It's a slow year only if you have poor taste
Brilliant year of gaming full of charismatic titles.
The elephant in the room here is just how few Western devs are getting nominated.

@LifeGirl A western developed game has won the main award in 7 out of the 10 total Game Award shows. There were very few big games released by western AAA studios this year.
@awp69 I think this is a reflection that the Switch is about to quickly become the Swatched... and to be honest, I think they've done better than many would have suspected in the dying days of the console.
@awp69 Nintendo is historically pretty disappointing during EOL years for their consoles.
Although a number of games actually dropped this year from them. Just... none of them made much of a splash. Probably because the big stuff is all being saved for the successor, the arrival of which seems fairly imminent at this point.
“WhEre ArE tHe GaMeS?!”
A dumb comment that has never been true.
It's been a slow generation for Sony vs PS4, but it could be worse. Hope there will be some new IP rather than sequels before this gen is out.
Shift-Up all the way Push Squarers
