Towers of Aghasba is one of those projects that's always looked incredibly promising — but it seems to have flown under the radar somewhat. You may recall that it was actually featured in last year's PlayStation Showcase, where it was announced for PS5.
Well, today's the day: Towers of Aghasba is now available in early access. Just to be clear, it costs $29.99 / £29.99 on Sony's system — it's not a free-to-play release, with developer Dreamlit already outlining a lengthy post-launch roadmap.
If you're sat there wondering what the game actually is, it's a rather striking sandbox exploration thing, set in a weird fantasy world. It's got crafting, building, and combat systems — and it's fair to say that it's a very ambitious release from what is a small studio. It's a little reminiscent of No Man's Sky, we suppose.
Will you be trying Towers of Aghasba for yourself? Have you been keeping an eye on this one since its announcement? Tame some strange creatures in the comments section below.

This looks fantastic, but I normally don't get pre release games so I'm a little torn. I think I'm likely to wait till all the little bugs have been ironed out..
I’m such a junkie for these games that I preordered against my better judgement. Hope it doesn’t suck!
It looks really cool, I love the style of it, but I just checked on Steam and it has a 'very negative' rating now. A quick scan of it suggests people think it has potential but is nowhere near a decent state now and isn't worth the money.
Yeah had my eye on it for a while and actually pre-ordered it in the end, plan on starting it later tonight.
Since when did we do "early access" also would love to see completed games without bloody roadmaps.
@Jrs1 Early access has been a thing for years and years now and some of the best games out there came from early access.
@Matroska Its very negative because no one can play it right now due to crashing, i've got as far as clicking NG before it crashes.
@DennisReynolds Fair enough, i thought it was justa steam thing.
I’d need more information on the game. It seems reminiscent of NMS, with that do anything aspect.
@Jrs1 To be fair, it can really pay off. BG3 benefitted massively from doing early access and getting a year or so of feedback from thousands of players. And in a way, games that release in a bad state but later get fixed are effectively in early access, like NMS or CP2077. Better to get the jank out the way before release, though, so it doesn't cause a massive controversy like with those two games.
The game looks really interesting and I have it on my wishlist on Steam, but I'll need to hear if it's worth getting now, or later.
@Jrs1 It kinda was as Sony didn't really allow it but in recent times they have started to allow it more what with this and Palworld. Xbox has been allowing early access games on its store for years as well. Its a gamble as always with them but its worth remembering Baldur's Gate 3 was a early access game as was games like Subnautica and Dead Cells.
I watched the trailer with my wife recently and we discussed all of the games it seems to be based on - Breath of the Wild, Ico + Shadow of the Colussus, some world building, some farming - which was enough to make me think it wasn’t any one of those.
Seeing that 2+ year roadmap has me concerned maybe only some of that stuff will be in early access at the beginning and the rest will come later. Which is fine if it’s free-to-start but I’m not paying a company to beta test their game for over 2 full years until it’s done.
Did look interesting, but I’ll see if Infinity Nikki is actually free-to-start first. I may even pay $10 to try it out, but $30 is just too much for what sounds like a demo.
It looks cool, would love to see more of it. Hope to see some previews or hands on soon.
@rjejr Yeah getting serious BOTW vibes with some of the mechanics, the catching of the fish being the absolute clone of Zelda games for years! Looks good though.
@DennisReynolds uninstall and reinstall, that worked for me.
I’m still curious how the multiplayer works. It sounds very Animal Crossing where you invite people to your world but don’t actually create one together.
This interests me a lot, but I'll also wait for a proper release. I especially dislike survival systems like hunger and farming (I don't want to real life in my video game, thanks!).
