We can't help but be excited to try out Nightreign, Elden Ring's fast-paced cooperative offering, arriving in 2025. Developer FromSoftware (a development studio that rarely misses) has revealed that PS5 players can sign up to take part in a network test for the standalone adventure.
Registrations open on 10th January, and if you're interested in participating, you can read more about the process here. Those lucky, chosen few will get to "play a portion of the game before the full game launch. Various technical verifications of online systems will be examined by conducting large-scale network load tests."
This scribe, at least, thinks Nightreign sounds sick and can't wait to play it. The focused, battle royale-style gameplay could be a nice match for Elden Ring's power progression if it's balanced properly; we even like the idea of character classes. While FromSoftware is known for its innovative multiplayer ideas, it is somewhat infamous for its fiddly network, connectivity, and matchmaking services. Here's hoping that Nightreign enjoys a successful launch in 2025.
What do you think of Elden Ring: Nightreign? Do you think FromSoftware's immaculate Elden Ring combat mechanics will mesh well with mass-market gaming trends, as popularised by Fortnite? Push the phantom; he's one-shot in the comments section below.

Not gonna bother with this one...
It looks like, such a cheap and shameless cash grap attempt.
I won't be surprised to see a leak or open confession (in a couple of years) that, this project is ordered by bandai namco and confirmed by kadokawa group... Naturally, idea is not well received by Hidetaka Miyazaki and he distanced himself and his team (at least partially) from this disgraceful project.
So...
Not gonna waste my time or money for this one...
@ozkrmz It’s basically a multiplayer mode. Is every multiplayer mode a cash grab? Sounds like they’re just catering to part of the fanbase, which isn’t a bad thing even if it’s not my cup of tea.
Bring back MAG lol
I'll give this a shot to see if it manages to be fun after all but I'm not getting my hopes up. Still think the concept of a rogue like with FromSoft's design philosophy for combat isn't going to be particularly...good.
Dear friend @ShadowofSparta
I am sorry, but, who says "every multiplayer mode a cash grab" ?
As a hardcore soulsborne veteran (since 2012), I am playing Warhammer 40.000 dark tide (since November 2024) and can not be more happy. Who said that "every multiplayer mode a cash grab" ?
By the way, Elden Ring is already a multiplayer game even without a "seamless co-op" mode... So, what exactly is your point?
By the way, why would any gamer need to voluntarily defend bandai namco and/or kadokawa corp.?
Why they need to use From Software as a tool?
@ozkrmz where does Hidetaka Miyazaki say that he has distanced himself and his team. Do you have a link to the article?
Dear friend @Throb
Thank you for the question.
I do not have any proof (yet). If there is a article and/or interview on the net, I have not seen it (yet). That is why, I said "I won't be surprised to see a leak or open confession (in a couple of years)"
As you know, some things see daylight (only) after some time.
What we do not have to wait for to see is, this "nightreign" attempt is (not only very unnecessary) but also (unfortunately) disgraceful.
I can break it down (point by point) to explain why (again! unfortunately) it is the case, but I respect you and your time.
@ozkrmz You said "Naturally, idea is not well received by Hidetaka Miyazaki and he distanced himself and his team (at least partially) from this disgraceful project." This is written as fact, something that has happened, something you have read or heard. Don't make things up please
It basically sounds like it's Ravenswatch, but transported to the land of Elden Ring, and after playing the former game with friends, and enjoying it very much, I'm totally up for trying this and am sure it'll be great.
@ozkrmz Um, I understand you are not a fan but you are completely making things up in your head and posting them as fact.
@cburg
Would you like to see my steam, playstation and/or xbox pc profile to understand whether or not, I am a souls games fan?
I'll be more than happy to share it, because you can also see how many hours I played, Dark Souls "Prepare to Die Edition", Elden Ring, Nioh, Dark Souls 3, Nioh 2, Dark Souls 2 "Scholar of The First Sin" , Bloodborne, Wo Long (xbox) , Lies of P (xbox), Dark Souls Remastered, Another Crab's Treasure etc...
...
Regarding your hollow and unfare accusation;
Do you see, "From The Creator of Souls Games Hidetaka Miyazaki" statement on "nightreign" announcement?
...
Anyway... Let me know, if you would like to see my steam/playstation/xbox profiles. But, I'll be also happy to see your profile. So, as long as, we share equally here, no problem.
Lets talk facts...
@ozkrmz "this "nightreign" attempt is (not only very unnecessary) but also (unfortunately) disgraceful.

I'd like the full in depth break down of why it is disgraceful, please. I'm not bothered about the game, but I do love a good in depth break down that can only enlighten 😃
I genuinely hope to be proven wrong here, but for me personally - this is not something I would have wanted FromSoft to have pursued. For the longest time, FromSoft have been a great bastion of 'identity strength' and put forward such a strong foot in their uncompromising approach to curating their portfolios. With Elden Ring, I feel they almost achieved the impossible - by catering for long-term fans + managing to on-board many newcomers to the genre. Sekiro remains one of my favorite games of all time, and I even had a blast with AC6.
Nightreign though...... just reeks a little bit of a 'corporate suits directive', working to chase recent co-op successes like Helldivers2, splicing in Rogue elements and even a smidge of Monster Hunter. Having pre-set 'hero' builds also just makes me die inside a little, when build-diversity and personalisation is such a key facet of From's games (less Sekiro of course).
I do appreciate From not going down the MTX/Live-Service route.... but this is one of the rare occasions where I actually think this game would benefit from such. I'm definitely notn sold on committing to an outright purchase (at assumedly approx ~50 $USD or circa). A F2P model might actually encourage more players to dip the toe in the water, as opposed to turning people off by an up-front price point (Concord....?)
My Christmas wish would have been for FromSoft to invest time/resource into patching in their own 'official/native' version of the well-known Seamless Co-Op mod being used by PC players (effectively allows a full co-op playthrough for entire game) and implementing cross-play alongside such. I think that would have been enough for long-term ER fans, and yielded a great deal more investment from the installed base.
I'm actually pleased to see Miyazaki has farmed this job out to another employee, which suggests he will be/is working on the next big game....
Like I say, I am genuinely willing this game to be a success - and will always root for FromSoftware - but this to me just seems like a wild mis-step, in the spirit of trend chasing (Something that From certainly does not need to do!)
Dear friend @CJD87
Thank you...
Noooo they should be making it free for everyone to try out. When a lot more are probably on the fence compared to when we found out From was making an open world with Elden Ring. I hope I get in this time
Dear friend @Ravix
I'll be very happy to share it here. But lets wait for a bit... Because, at least some of it will be (easily) spotted by other people. No need to be genius or most wise person on earth to determine the very obvious downsides of "nightreign".
Still I can not believe, they go for it... This is a (unfortunately) "new low" for From Software. No thanks to kadokawa corp...
I'm pretty excited for it, it sounds like such a blast to play. Kinda reminds me of the Side Order DLC Splat 3 had back in February, introducing a roguelike game mode to the series.
@ozkrmz I didn't see much of the trailer, but you said you'd share, if asked, how it is unnecessary and disgraceful. Really break it down and tear it apart for us, piece by piece 😈
@Ravix
Will (gladly) do, my friend.
Just give some time and room for other people to develop their own conviction...
No need to rush...
I just do not want to affect people before even they see it and/or process it.
I always respect free will...
My son has spent hundreds of hours in ER just to play co-op and fight monsters and boss with other people. So this new game clearly targets this kind of play style. Personally I’m afraid the formula will get old quickly, but let’s see.
Bruh no PC? 💀 oh nah gang, please say it ain't so
