In case you forgot, Returnal developer Housemarque intended on opening "the Nordics' Most Advanced Gaming Headquarters" with its new premises, and now, it's finally ready to roll.
The Finnish studio has opened its brand new offices, still in Helsinki, and from this brief snippet of footage, it looks super fancy:
It's just a small glimpse at where the team does its work, but we love Selene's spacesuit and helmet on display in the reception. It looks amazing.
As Housemarque celebrates its 30th anniversary, its new studio is now in full operation. It includes "cutting-edge meeting rooms, proper audio studios, testing areas, and wellness spaces", and has eco-friendly initiatives in mind as well.
It's not currently known precisely what the studio is making next, though job listings reveal it'll be an action game of some kind. Good thing it's recently hired a new lead designer with more than a decade's experience at PlatinumGames.
What do you hope to see from Housemarque next? Do you want to see that Returnal costume in person too, or is that just us? Discuss in the comments section below.

Looking forward to their next game. Probably wrong saying this but it does feel like this game was slept on by a lot of people.
Does this mean Nex Machina will go on sale again? It's been almost two and a half years...
The suit looks awesome! Where can i apply? Very excited to see what this studio will bring us in the future and how it will grow under Playstation studios.
Returnal is still by far the best game this generation for me. A butt clenching, palm sweating cacophony of orchestrated violence.
@ButterySmooth30FPS I'd say that Nex Machina is as close to a perfect game as I've played and a 120fps patch would be most welcome.
@Oram77 I think it found it's audience, it's just not a game with massive mainstream appeal.
I always like it when devs have memorabilia set up in their offices from the games they work on. It may be a small thing, but I think it's really cool.
I love they are going all in on this team hiring more people and expanding the studio
Make Dead nation in 3rd person shooter please.
Hopefully we will see what their new project is. Surely it’s been cooking for a while since Returnal released back in 2020(?). Whatever Housemarque makes I am all for it.
Good for them and well deserved. Returnal was one hell of a great game.
There's a few rules I've put on myself over the years. Always see an Edgar Wright film at the cinema, always go see the boss (Bruce Springsteen) when he's performing nearby and always buy Housemarque games day 1. They've never let me down. I trust them
Just far too difficult for the game to be mainstream and that’s the truth. If it was more accessible I think it would have got more people in. I love the game btw.
I hope Housemarque and bluepoint can now be aaa powerhouse studios that they’re both owned by Sony.
@Brundleflies21 Honestly it was too difficult for me so I didn't get to experience all of the game, I hope their next game isn't a rogue-like.
Man I really need to finish Returnal the game is so sick but good god I'm so bad at it 😅
Now that they're in the Nordics' Most Advanced Gaming Headquarters, maybe they can manage to release a PS5 Pro patch for Returnal because the 1080p native resolution could use a boost.
@Gazray Did you play the game close to release or did you play it after it was patched a few times? I was asking just because I agree with you in the context of when I played it at release. I absolutely loved the game and count it as one of my favorite PS5 games, probably top 5 at least. But it was tough as nails and I can understand some people just not having the patience to get through some of the tougher sections. However, I believe when they patched in the co-op mode, the game difficulty was decreased substantially. Not just that playing it co-op made the game easier, but also that even playing it solo was much, much easier post-patch.
Honestly, I wouldn’t trade my experience because the high difficulty is all part of the fond memories I have of beating it. But unfortunately, making the game easier did probably make it more mainstream.
I’d be curious to see if most of the fans of the game were people who played it in the original state.
Power to them. Returnal is (after Street Fighter 6 - I am a fighting game dork) my favourite game this gen, Nex Machina is an underrated, modern classic, and I'm still playing Resogun since it launched over eleven years ago.
@Kraven I might be wrong but I think it was April 2021 it was originally meant to be march of 2021 but was delayed
Now that Housemarque have more staff, I personally would love to see them make twin stick shooter games again like Dead Nation, Alienation, Nex Machina, or Matterfall.
But sadly the majority of gamers doesn't buy this arcadey type of games which is sad. Even Returnal only sold 1 million copies which i'm not sure if it's really profitable for Housemarque or not...
Would love to see them have two teams with one being smaller focusing on arcade games.
@Th3solution I'm a fan of the game since its original release. Put about 120 hours into it between release in April that year and December.
If the difficulty has been nuked since then that's kinda disappointing as the challenge (AKA not being able to play it on autopilot like far too many modern games) was part of the appeal to begin with (despite the fact that it's nowhere close to the difficulty of Nex Machina).
Absolutely Loved Returnal, despite really finding most rogue lite/likes pretty lame and lazy
I actually think returnal is the best ps5 exclusive to have come out at all.
That being said, Lmfao, it's no wonder why bloated development budgets have skyrocketed and yet the advancements in gaming have stagnated....
These ridiculous studios being prioritized is a bit much especially when the reality is, all that's needed is strong tech dev workstations and a talented unthusiastic team. The rest is waste in favor of opulence. We all know where that can go with a dev like bungie as an example or even Google for that matter.
@MrPeanutbutterz I’ve yet to play Nex Machina. Always meant to try it but have never got around to it.
One of these days maybe I’ll try the current version of Returnal. I never went back to play the DLC either. Many months had passed since I completed the game by the time the DLC was added and I knew all my finely tuned skills I’d accumulated were certainly rusty by then.
All I know is that I was stuck at the first boss for like 12 hours of gameplay time and after the game was patched I was seeing people complete the whole game in that time frame. The third biome was absolute murder originally. That trek to the boss… oh man, the stuff of nightmares. 😅 But like you say, such an awesome gaming experience and very satisfying. One of my proudest gaming moments to have beaten the game.
@Brundleflies21 I'm tipping my hat and beer. While also winking and giving a thumbs up to this comment. The game was a beautiful disaster. Intense, poignant and calculated. It's a rare gem for sure. Not for everyone but neither is a rare gem lol
@Brundleflies21 also Resogun...pure magic. Needs a massive co op patch for ps5 as it's a jittery mess and literally unplayable
I hope they don't get stuck only making AAA from now on, with only one game every 5 years. I wish they would continue to make smaller arcade styled games, to fill in the void between the big budget releases.
I always liked this studio. Returnal wasn’t my type of game, but i still think it was well made. Sales for it wasn’t out of this world. So i hope they get a chance to make a game on a scale loads of gamers would buy into.
@Steel76 100% Sony bought them without a AAA game under their belt. Just amazing, white knuckle games. If they don't let a team of 50-80 churn out a top down/isometric bullet hell shooter or Resogun 2 that's a travesty and an overwhelming level of incompetence from Sony. Yu needs to step in and bitch slap these confused execs
