Announced for PS5 last month, Blades of Fire has just debuted five full minutes of uncut gameplay footage.
The clip covers a bit of exploration around a fairly open environment, some early combat encounters, and a touch of the title's storytelling. Developer MercurySteam (of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow fame) stresses that this is still an unfinished build — but it already looks pretty solid to us, if a little bit janky.
As the headline of this article suggests, we think there are some real God of War (2018) vibes going on here. The over-the-shoulder camera, the weapon switching, the chatty companion character... We're going out on a limb to say that Sony's action adventure was an inspiration.

Blades of Fire is out quite soon, targeting a 22nd May release date — but what do you make of this one so far? Watch you don't break your own weapon in the comments section below.

I perk up every time I see “RPG” in the article title 😆
Looks good.hopefully it's a fun game. Word up son
It looks a bit clunky, but there's still time until release to iron out the kinks.
I'll read reviews and watch gameplay videos before biting the bullet on this one.
Ouch, I was curious about the game but this gameplay makes it "wait for a very big sale" or even better "wait for it being on PS+".
Really clunky characters and animations...
@AhmadSumadi I perked up when it looked like we were getting a new Castlevania Lords of Shadow.
The combat looked remedial, and the voice acting was REALLY flat. I’m going to root for it to be good, but my expectations based on this, a 5 minute clip of an unfinished build, are low. Hopefully they can pull to together.
Is not only ps5. Will release on xbox too.pay more attention guys. Latelly you are disapoin....
Really enjoyed the castlevnia lord of shadows games, so I will definitely try this from them
This looked really cool until I watched a gameplay demo. There is "being inspired" by a game, and there is also ripping off a game. This looks to be the latter.
Looked rough tbh. Definitely a budget title. Was interested from the initial trailer, but this raw gameplay seemed boring and flat.
I'll have to see way more for a decision. Didn't even see if there's a level up system.
Here's a mirror that doesn't require a youtube account yo watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1G1YzZZ2wc
Like others said, bit clunky animations and poor voice acting (at least that "kid"). Unnecessary comparison to God of War. Haven't seen any RPG elements either.
Yah I have to echo the sentiment that this gameplay cut did not do the game justice. The combat seemed OK enough in the sense that it was more technical, but yeesh it looked and almost "felt" hours spent level repetitive and clunky just in the few mins of encounters we saw. Hopefully there is more to it in story and exploration and gear game to make it worth it.
However it seems like the entire loop is built around combat, and yeah that wasn't great.
