Re: Forgiving Gamers Are Contributing to The Day Before Devs’ New Kickstarter

Arthur_Morgan

@nessisonett I would love to see the data that links 'the type of people" that buy an upgraded console and the likelihood of them being fooled and supporting a known scammer via a Kickstarter campaign or just a kickstarter in general.

Other then an opinion that the" type of people" that purchase an upgraded console have additional income to spend frivolous and an inability to sport fraud because you've come to the conclusion that the Pro is a waste of money.

People make choices with their own money and making a purchase you disagree with doesn't make them a fool.

Re: Cancellation of The Last of Us Online Was 'Not a Bloodless Endeavour'

Arthur_Morgan

@Specky We are all clueless about the state of the project and after pouring hundreds of millions into the project the game must have been in a really rough place to just give up and cancel it. You don't spend hundreds of millions of dollars and then scuttle the project if you think it's going to be a massive success. You rework the project so as not to lose your investment.

I wanted the game to be a massive success but Sony didn't spend a ton of money to say nah we like Concord better. They were developed simultaneously by different teams the project was simply not viable in its current state. They wanted LOU Fractions 2 and Concord to clean up the market.

Of all of the live service projects, how many new titles have managed to break into the market?
Games like Overwatch, Fortnite, CS GO, PUBG, Warzone, Rainbow 6, and GTAO were all on the bubble.

Anthem, Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League, Multiversus, and Marvel's Avengers had hundreds of millions poured into them and failed.

If you were not on the bubble it's an extremely difficult market to enter. How many newcomers have since joined the market and can compete? Titles such as Genshin Impact are the exceptions, not the rule which is why Sony commissioned so many Live service titles at once because most will fail and you only need one to hit big.

It's throwing darts at a board. Success in this market space is nit easily replicated regardless of the funding.

The one GAS title that I was sure would be a massive hit for Sony didn't even make it to market. Goes to show how difficult and risky this area of development is and how much resources GAS takes.

I think ultimately history will show this GAS push will be fruitless for Sony but I don't blame them
for attempting to strike gold. The development of SP titles has suffered from this decision.

Many first-party studios are simply not ready to release games. However, that gap would normally be filled with smaller studios that are all developing their GAS "potential disasters".

Even when they do hit developers like Arrowhead have shown it's difficult to maintain that initial hype.

Re: More Spicy Helldivers 2 Drama as Freedom's Flame Backlash Boils Over

I purchased the Warbonds, spent a lot of time with the game, and for the most part enjoyed the chaos. This constant "balancing" in a PvE title is frustrating and unnecessary Arrowhead seems intent on making every primary unviable and sucking all fun out of the game.

I get they want to avoid a Meta by making every gun terrible to use to sell the fantasy of being overwhelmed and fighting a war of impossible odds etc. but fundamentally the game should be fun to play.

The player count has dropped 90% already. Arrowhead is a small team and lacks the resources to keep up with other live services so perhaps they should primarily focus on additional content rather than constant patches intent on improving the "balance" of the game.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3's Honour Mode Responsible for More Than a Million Failed Playthroughs

@Matej Sorry if you believed the explanation was unneeded, I had hoped providing a little insight would build understanding and empathy for the guys working hard on this site and why such articles are required.

I was wrong, You're knowledgeable of the system and that's what triggers you and so you're choosing to vent over something that's beyond the control of you, me, and this site.

I have explained my piece and will leave you to scream into the void.

Have a good day!

Re: Baldur's Gate 3's Honour Mode Responsible for More Than a Million Failed Playthroughs

@Matej Gaming websites including this one make money through a variety of revenue streams, such as advertising revenue via displaying ads. These ads are often based on a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) model. Articles such as this which pique interest and drive traffic help the site keep the lights on.

Articles need to be created not always based on the most interesting source material to keep the algorithm and advertisers happy.

Push Square and its affiliate partners can't change internet journalism the money has to come from somewhere. So unless they charge a fee for everyone to view the site like some news outlets or have a constant revenue stream in other areas articles based on Tweets etc will continue to exist. You always have the option to skip them.

Or show a little appreciation for how difficult is it to continue to succeed in this sector.

Re: PS Portal Was the USA's Fourth Best-Selling System in November

Arthur_Morgan

@Porco Sony is not using the portal to sell PS5s, no one is going out to spend £500 on a console to buy a £200 accessory. The Portal exists to maximise game time for those who are not able to play the PS5 on the main screen that's it. It complements the games as a service push also should that ever come to pass in any major way. I use the portal when the kids are using the main TV or the wife ect. It's an accessory sold for a reasonably niche market that is selling well. Would I ditch the PS5 for just the portal? No absolutely not but it's pretty serviceable for an accessory and it would appear lots of other people feel the same way.

Re: Destiny 3 Begins Trending on Twitter As Fans Are Fed Up with Current Game

Arthur_Morgan

@Green-Bandit just to highlight Destiny 2 has an average 24hr peak of 107,964 and came out 6 years ago vs Halo at 5,322 as of today. It's the second most downloaded Free to play game in the world after Fortnite and Destiny 2 is ranked #2 out of 138 tracked MMOs in terms of aggregate server and player population. I do not play Destiny but there is zero doubt of its success and longevity over Halo ect. Which is why Sony purchased them to begin with. Live service successes are few and fair.

Re: The Last of Us PC Is Naughty Dog's Worst Ever Reviewed Game by Some Margin

Arthur_Morgan

@Phornix prefix this with you're obviously not a fan of the series which is of course completely fine.

I don't really understand the issue people take with Ellie doesn't kill her in the end plot. Context is everything by the end of the game you've destroyed and eradicated everything you loved and you meet finally reach Abbey who is also near death and the realization of it wasn't worth it is not abstract. If you kill one person you don't have to go kill another to make it "worth it" because it's all just gratuitous violence that ends in nothing but pain. That's the message. Neither character is redeemed and there is no redemption. Joel killed everyone in the hospital and didn't stop, Abbey then set out to kill Joel which caused a new cycle of violence with Ellie. None of them were right or justified other then when viewed from their own selfish motivations and that the change up in perspective. I agree the games are not ultra realistic but not doing killing someone because you already killed others is not that far fetched.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Wouldn't Be Possible Without PS5

Arthur_Morgan

In reality, the PS5 specs are nothing to be blown away by in terms of performance. I love my PS5 and it's great value for performances In the context of PS5 vs PS4 I am sure the development process is far more manageable with memory allocation ect. However the devs are all using top spec PC's to actually develop the game. This is largely hyperbole market talk.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Finale - A Highlight Reel of Your Favourite Story

Arthur_Morgan

The game had a lot of padding but this series was a little short for me. The journey didn't feel epic in scale. Obviously, apples and oranges but Lord of the Rings films felt like a monumental undertaking where as this felt like a road trip with some inconvenience. Not alot seemed to have happened outside the main character narratives. They all seemed to have been transported from place to place.

Re: Soulslike Bleak Faith: Forsaken Accused of 'Stealing' Elden Ring Animation Assets

Arthur_Morgan

After reviewing the thread it appears that the three-person dev team had taken some time-saving shortcuts and brought assets and animations from the EGS market place believing Epic carried out due diligence over the use of Copyrighted products. So they believed it was all good to use without any legal ramifications. However Epic responded that they do not review "rights" of use. They effectively had their fingers burnt but will be making changes to the process going forward. This is now a non event for me.
