If it has destruction, and isn’t set in a real life historical warzone, then I am all in. I loved playing the original Bad Company; the maps were a decent size, the squads were small compared to the more recent games, and you could blow holes in walls and take down buildings. To me, that’s what Battlefield will always be and what makes it stand out from COD, but it hasn’t really been that for a while. Seems to be all about massive maps and 100s of people running and jumping and sniping me from miles off.
Many of the cons could arguably be pro’s when playing with a young child, so Im actually quite pleased with the reviews for this one criticising it for being a little bit simplistic. Im pretty sure my 5 year old and I will have a lot of fun destroying lego robot dinosaurs, in non challenging levels!
@djlard I also wasn’t a fan of Valhalla (or Odyssey/Origins but I don’t like RPG’s generally anyway). But I enjoyed many of the older games, and also really liked Mirage. A smaller but more detailed open world to explore was a lot of fun. I hope they continue to bring out more like Mirage personally, but I doubt I will buy any of the bigger games again.
@LogicStrikesAgain marginal in some cases, much better in some others. I wasn’t speaking about the people, but the games, and I don’t think every game will see those advantages. But for those people who want those features and are willing to pay for it, that’s great that some games will utilise the power.
Do they “Love” the “new tech”? It certainly doesn’t read like it from those reviews? I opened this article expecting glowing reviews to be honest!
Those who buy this are bound to be happy with it, and will be happy to spend the money for what may be a marginally better experience at times, and a much better experience at other times. It’s not for me, but hope people enjoy it.
@djlard I’m sure there are more hardcore AC fans who played each game to completion, and those people would completely agree with you. AC became a very mainstream series (and still is) and so I’m pretty confident that the a good percentage of people who played them were there for the reason I mentioned previously. Think we probably just have to agree to disagree.
@djlard I’m not saying it wasn’t for everyone, but I don’t think that the majority of people who bought AC games bought them because of the modern story. Most people like the games because it’s fun free running/stealth/combat around a historical setting. I’m sure there are those who liked the story, including the modern parts, but it’s not exactly the main selling point.
The modern parts stopped me from playing AC for quite a while. Never saw the point of them. I think most people buy these games because they want to play a historical open world game in an interesting setting, not to play through a dull back story about modern day people sat in a capsule.
@Shalooda sure and that’s what I do. It’s just one of the things I would personally like, the option to have a mini map showing me where to go. Rather than roughly knowing that I need to go North and that’s it’s 500m away etc, only to find I now have to make my way up a mountain and that I’m on the wrong side. I do get why they chose to go this route, for exploration, but I would just like the option. Sometimes it can be difficult to work out the exact location. If I have time to explore that’s great, but if I’m just trying to get a shorter side mission done, I’d like the extra help that you often get in ubisofts open world games. I’m not one of those people who has a lot of time to game, sometimes 20-30mins here and there. This isn’t really a criticism of the game, as much as a personal preference.
@Mostik I would also like a mini map! I think they were experimenting with making the game more about exploration, and less about following a GPS to your location, but I would really like the option to switch it on.
It’s around a 7 or 8 for me. I really like it, one of my favourite games of the year. I can see it’s not perfect, but it’s a brilliant game. I’m around 10-11 hours in, and fully expect to at least finish the story. I personally like the characters, and the story. Had a couple of minor bugs where I have had to shut the game down and load it up again, but no big deal.
Its an excellent game from the few matches I have played. Really enjoying the destruction, havent played a multiplayer game quite like it since the Bad Company games! I didnt know about the AI narrators, but would say that the narration has impressed me so far. Seems to work whatever they are doing, although i fully appreciate some will take issue with it being AI.
@get2sammyb just one thing I would I say, as a non hardcore gamer who has very limited gaming time, gamepass works for me because It gives access to a wide library. If I buy a £70 game, and play 3 hours a week, I’d potentially be playing the same game for many months if I was hoping to finish it. Instead, I dip in and out of games. I very rarely finish a game unless it’s fairly short and linear, which these days isn’t many! So I would actually rather have access to that wide library. My point is, not all of us have that need to finish everything we play. I simply play till I have had enough, and then move on.
