The Sony designers should explain this; for me there is no reason they couldn’t figure out a way to make them work for both models. Either it’s incompetence, or Sony want to REALLY monetize the PS5 Pro - I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pro-specific plates cost more than the the regular ones.
Returnal is really in a class of its own. No disrespect intended to any of the other titles, but is the best PS5 game I have played so far. I also likeThe Persistence, I love Dead Cells and I really want to like Hades, but it sometimes feels unfair.
I hope that they also bring this back to the existing PS2 titles - I am still regretting the Jak & Daxter trilogy on PS4 which is atrocious compared to the HD release on PS3.
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but I am unfamiliar with the first game (apart from watching videos on PS Store) and even after reading this review I am still unsure if this game is multiplayer-only, or can it be played solo? (with bots as teammates or whatever)
@TechaNinja I love both Frequency and Amplitude and I regularly replay them when I have the chance (I live in a different country than my PS2 these days!) I saw the re-releases but I really love the originals’ licensed tracks; they introduced me to great stuff like Freezepop.
While a discount is all well and good, it’s funny how they’ve only discounted the standard console-only package while leaving all game-related bundles at the old prices - this means that if anyone were to buy the God of War Ragnarok bundle today, the “bundled” game (which I believe is a code only) ends up costing €150.
For reference, the standard God of War PS5 disc version usually costs €80 and it’s frequently (and currently) discounted at €60.
“Protagonist Frey Holland is transported back in time to the Purge of the Rheddig, a war that ravaged Athia and sent the Tantas loopy. The twist is Frey finds herself in someone else’s body […]”
A bit late to the party, but Nil will also join the fight, as long as you complete all bandit camps and he survives. I am not sure he’s required for the Trophy, though.
Ico was an absolutely sublime experience back on PS2. I loved every minute playing it and yes, it also moved me to tears in the end. It was also one of those games of that era that went off-grid to offer players something different than the mainstream, as was the case with games like Rez, Shadow of Memories, Okami, Metroid Prime, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to name but a few. I would be ecstatic to see a modern remake (I’d really love to play Ico at 60fps), but I am content with the original and the PS3 remaster.
Returnal is more of a slow burn than the instant gratification people seem to value nowadays. I personally picked it up as soon as I got a PS5 in summer 2021 and it’s consistently remained among my favourite games for the console. I’d say it’s a unique game in more than one way; it’s certainly niche, but also unique within its niche. The PC port seems to be a good job (according to Digital Foundry, at least). Here’s hoping more people will give it a shot ad it’s certainly worth it!
I played the demo and wasn’t impressed. Then I came across a reddit post that had advice on what options to change for the demo an, sure enough, the second time was a bit better. The main issue I had was the constant annoying back-and-forth between Frey and Cuff, which turns out can be limited or even turned off completely by a setting under Accessibility, of all places. The other issue was that the demo does not even mention the “grapple hook” ability that is mapped to Square button; without it you may miss a lot of content that you can’t reach easily otherwise.
However, my main issue was that the protagonist Frey comes off as annoying rather than edgy. There is frequent use of f-bombs for no apparent reason (bad writing) and the voice actress (fresh out of her stint in that horrible “Resident Evil” show Netflix already cancelled) is miscast - she comes off as a teenager trying to sound like an adult. I also thought the main music theme, which combines orchestral work with hip-hop elements, just doesn’t match the atmosphere of the game.
A new Wipeout game would be great , especially given Nintendo’s now-chronic inability to provide a new F-Zero game, or even a port of F-Zero GX. If I am not mistaken, the recently-acquired Firesprite studio has connections to Studio Liverpool, so there you go!

@Smiffy01 Huntdown is amazing and a good example of proper use of pixel art.

Indeed, as others have already pointed out, this game looks very much like Flashback, but in lower resolution.
