@ATaco It's not so much about wanting it in games (although, if it's 3rd person and my POV is asscam, I sure don't mind) but more about how if a developer wanted to make a game (a good game) with an attractive female protagonist, would the corporation that owns them even let them make it?
@Divergent95 I just feel like the big corporations that make games nowadays feel lots of outside pressure from various groups, and are no longer free and unconstrained to make a game true to their vision, whatever that vision might be. It might surprise you to know that I'm a life-long democrat. Largely because I think the true measure of any society is how they treat their most downtrodden. I'm just against the death of sexuality. Let's just hold hands and twirl in circles.
@Divergent95 That's cool, and I don't have anything against you. But I don't understand your point. I'm not telling anyone how they should look or act, but when games portray women as asexual or androgynous, THAT is, in a way, telling them how to act.
Sorry, she's got dude-face. Put a crew cut on the left hand image and she's a chubby Duke Nukem.
You all can go on about how new age you are and how superior your morals are than those of people who don't agree with you, but I'll tell you, I think it's sad that in seemingly every game with a female lead that comes out now, they try to transmogrify that character into something androgynous with a ski coat on to hide a figure, etc.
Most women I know are HAPPY to be women, and they LIKE to be considered sexy. The fact that most of you seem unable to appreciate that just seems crazy to me.
I fully expect some "oh god! what a sexist! I'm so offended!" comments to follow this. But really, I just don't get it. The thing I find offensive is how some seem eager to take offense at just about anything, and then preach about what a great person they are for having their new-age beliefs.
I still remember how cool it was to have bots in Quake 3. Some of them could really beat the crap out of me at first. I ended up learning a lot from going up against them, and became a much better online player as a result.
These are not those bots. If it wasn't so sad, it'd be laughable that a company tries to make a cheap and fast on-line game full of cash grabbing opportunities and monetary transactions, and then has to create bots just to fill games. I hope it sets an example for other game developers who think it might be lucrative to go down this road.
I like the fact that both games I get are ones that I wouldn't spend my own cash on. I've had a mild interest in Squadrons, so it gives me a chance to check it out. Not really into fighting games, but I'll give this a shot since it's free, who knows, maybe it can change my mind.
So, no, not super happy with the selections this month, but I'm willing to give them a try and see if either can give me a new perspective.
That sounds fun, really. Sort of the way I played Skyrim, in fact. I'd head in the direction of a quest on foot, and then get waylaid by any markers visible on my way there. It was almost better than strictly following a story path, since it gave you little pockets of time where you were creating your own adventure. Think I'll wait for a sale, though, just because I already feel like a hamster on a treadmill with the backlog I've created for myself since discovering the PS Store.
Pearls. You need to shuck clams in shallow water, but as you may have discovered, most just have clam meat, which is pretty much worthless. The real trick here is to find another ingredient that does the same thing. Especially if you don't have a house yet, I'd try mixing everything with everything else possible at an alchemest station. You lose a lot, but it's weight anyway, and you will always find more. Sometimes, you'll end up making something really out there with both positive and negative traits. Once you discover the trait, you'll automatically know it for good. Sometimes the sell value on accidents can drain a merchants cash for the day with only one potion! Once you buy a house and furnish it, your alchemy station comes with a pouch that is basically bottomless. I ended up trying to keep 100 of everything, and the pouch never became full!
But you asked about Pearls, I digress. Do you have the special edition version? Because if you do, you'll eventually travel to Solsthiem. Lots of clamshells in Solsthiem, and unlike mainland Skyrim, most of them contain Pearls! As you try different ingredient mixtures, though, pearls will become an afterthought. Many much less rare things can do all the things pearls can. Sorry, no short answers here!
Actually, Checkwa said it's rhythmic undulations helped to soothe my pesky L2 implants, which in conjunction with.....ok, you got me, it MIGHT be a Quarian.
This soundtrack is all that plays in my head now, going to need weeks to clear it out once I'm done! Have a good weekend!
Hey, give it to me straight, is Biomutant worth full price? I remember being very interested in it when I first heard of it, which was I think more than five years ago! Never tracked it closely enough to figure out what took them so long to finish it, but after all the time that passed, when it resurfaced recently it just didn't have the emotional punch it used to, or maybe that I used to.
Better late than never! Took me longer than I want to admit to even figure it out, lol. Some punctuation changes would have helped, (your-eyes-on, perhaps, so I'd have grouped them together in my head faster) but hey, I'll not turn down a puzzle mini-game for free on PSquare!
As always, if you need any info or help, just let me know! (In fact, this thread was so old I thought that might be what you were after!) Have a good holiday weekend!
Well, Aloy keeps getting uglier. Sounds like some of you won't be happy 'till she's 300lbs. chasing dirty kids around the trailer park in a beer stained wife-beater tanktop.
Still looking forward to the comeback of the unrealistically beautiful superhero girl in gaming.
That was a fantastic and concise review! Great job! If I'm nitpicking, I love the Mako and fighting the Dune Sandworm-like Thresher Maws in ME1.
If you've never played and you're on the fence about it, I can only say it's the best, most realized Science Fiction I've ever experienced in gaming, and you'd be doing yourself a favor.
Not related, but I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to keeping up with TV series and the like, and I just recently treated myself to the first season of The Expanse. It's great, but what I really loved about it is it seems like all the combat and uniforms, space travel, etc. is ripped straight from Mass Effect! Had to at least be a big influence.
This was one of more interesting games I've seen lately, based on the trailers and screenshots, etc. Looking forward to more info, but not willing to fully commit to a developer I've never heard of.
This hits 9 on my hypemeter, whereas Dying Light 2 hit a ten and won a stuffed animal. Both of them look great, and I'm thinking THESE are finally the games that are going to make me chase down a PS5.
Of all the Ubisoft garbage, I probably like Far Cry the best. This looks good, but honestly, not as good as either Horizon: Forbidden West or Dying Light 2. I always have a pretty good time with Far Cry, though, and I loved Montana in 5. I wish they'd write a story that takes itself a bit more seriously, truth be told. They've always had fun gunplay, and I'm looking forward to trying out that rocket backpack for some good overkill fun, but I'd love to see them combine it with a meaningful story for once.
Sort of a shame PushSquare left this thread up top, and buried the one with the gameplay video. Video is awesome, and makes today a great one-two punch for the future of gaming.
@fR_eeBritney Well, the first one IMO played it too safe and very politicly correct. I expect they'll do the same with this one. No blood, no short skirts, etc. Safer and appeals to a wider audience, and keeps fanatical groups off their backs. I'd sure like to see a less risk-adverse approach, though.
This was awesome. These events usually disappoint, but today we got two great reveals. My god I'm hyped. I was waiting until physical copies of PS5 were available at retail, but when this and Dying Light 2 hit, I think I'll have to get involved in the online hunt. Just a great day.
I'll go against the grain here and say, I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T hit the Dec. 7 release day. They've had plenty of experience and negative feedback from previous times with this game, and I'm betting they are being overly careful about what they say now. My guess is the game is done, and between now and December it's all about polish.
The gameplay looked interesting. Is it single player at all? Or just multi? It reminded me a little, of all things, of Dishonored. Waiting for someone in the know to disappoint me.
You won't see it on this video, (which is a must-watch, btw) but after the vid, I loved how they described the world. The ground is dead, so the rooftops are the new ground, and the lead environment designer said that going down to street level is kind of like going underground. They also said they had over 3,000 different animations for various traversal methods. If this can release bug-free or near enough to it, they have a huge hit on their hands.
I've always liked Far Cry gameplay, but really, if you've played one, you've played them all. Felt a bit stale in the last one, and I'd like to see more effort put into some new gameplay. Of course, it's Ubisoft, so I don't have any real hope of that happening.

It's impossible to test everything pre-release. I'm a huge Bethesda fan, and I've just learned to accept there are going to be bugs when the games are new.
@Omnistalgic I was going to say something along the lines of what @nessisonett said. These online games tend to be why people have soured towards Bethesda. Skyrim special edition would be the way to go, and a great way into The Elder Scrolls.
Loved the games, couldn't care less about a movie. Games had you tied up in the story for over 100 hours. How's a 90 minute movie supposed to compete with that? It can only be a very shallow scratching of the surface. I wish they'd stop tarnishing good games with lame movies.

@Joyfultoad That's right. Every single game ever made has gameplay. That's why they call it a game. It takes more than that. It's got to be something that interests me. This doesn't. If you like it, go play it to death. It's something better to do than pick over my words.
@Ryu_Niiyama Thanks much for the reply! Unfortunately, I don't have game pass yet. I'll be getting it as soon as I can find a new XBox at a retail store. I love tactics, and enjoyed both XCOM games immensely. Once it hits the $19.95 price range, I'm in.
Say, did they ever fix this game? I heard it was an interesting mesh of ideas with some XCOM style of gameplay, but they almost tried to mix too many things together, and had a hard time having the whole thing coalesce.

Still hopelessly addicted to Mass Effect. I find myself doing what I always used to do with this game. I'm still on the first game of the trilogy, because, like in days of old, I got about 2/3 of the way through, then decided to start over with a different build so I could team up better with different squadmates. I'll finish both playthroughs before moving on to ME2. I'm in no hurry, and don't want to rush the experience. I'm already hit with the feeling that whatever I play next, it won't be as great as what I'm playing right now. Forgot how much I love these games!
I just find the whole look and concept unappealing. It might have the greatest gameplay in the world, but there's nothing about the artwork, the hook, or the dodgeball idea that immerses me.
