Re: Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail Dev's Profits Eclipse Even PlayStation

These Eastern gacha games works by having the option to either just grind the "Premium" gacha currency in game, which can take months and you'll have to take advantage of as many opportunities that offer them in-game as possible or you can sink Hundreds or maybe even thousands to (attempt to) get the best-in-class characters/skills (and in the case of some games like GI, weapons) in next to no time.

Publishers and Publishers of these games rely on the paying players to keep the servers running but also equally needs the more majority of the lower-spending or non-spending players to help keep the balance in check and also because the raw number of players are important as well.

I think the only reason these games get off lightly overall is because there's nothing game-changing in their gacha banners that you can't get for free with the patience at grinding and getting some luck in your favour, but if it's possible to buy the gacha currency then the odds legally has to be disclosed, with most even disclosing the odds right down to each individual character/skill/card.

I'm really hoping that 1) they don't make it the same miserable grindfest AL was and 2) all the game-original characters are available before DLCs.

At least they ditched the Accuracy/Evasion modifiers again. It worked with HF because bosses weren't literally upto 800 levels above you, but HR felt more forward-thinking by not having Acc/Eva and that game was genuinely fun and still my most-played PS game by time played by a long shot, but it wasn't without its own flaws.

The thing I'm most concerned about though is that they didn't rotate their studios for this one so I hope Aquria doesn't burn out and ruin the game...

@huyi the first can be done in about 6 hours without factoring in trophies. Maybe even less if you really don't care about trophies because you don't have to back-track for enemies or loot and the boost significantly reduces grinding by giving you upto 4x EXP and money.

The first 3 are remastered NES games, hardly long with those limited Cartridge capacities. I'd even dare say that without trophies, all 6 combined are probably quicker than P5R.

@tameshiyaku It was something they wanted to do way back in PS Now's infancy. They were looking to get the services on almost any device with an OS. Apple poured cold water on any plans to get it on iOS. Apple and Google has a history of shutting down subscription services from their app store, even Microsoft were forced to find a workaround for their xCloud service.

@johnny30 it was considered a premium product aimed at people with a 4K display or those who wanted a sharper, supersampled lower resolution with all the Pro-enhancement benefits, so it didn't flop relative to its target consumers.

Also it wasn't just discontinued within a year, it released in late 2016 and discontinued in 2021 along with all but the latest PS4 Slim SKUs.
