Re: PS5 Firmware Update Finally Changes How Game Discs Work

Interesting I just assumed this was already a thing. I don't own a PS5 yet but I used one extensively at my old job. However the game I worked on doesn't even have a disc version so never dealt with that. While the switch doesn't install cart games to the system/sd card it has worked in a somewhat similar way that if you had a cart first then download a game it won't show up as a another entry, itll launch off of the same tile and vis-versa.

@Wookers84 Oh I haven't had any issues either. I just mean that eventually it may happen. I hate to be paranoid about it, but someday, maybe in a few years we could lose access to redownloading if they ever decide to take the servers down. The simple answer is to just download the games now but hard drives can fail. I'm glad we can still do it to this point so I'm hopeful Sony comes up with a long term solution for this in the future.

@lordzand Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't that what happened with the wii shop channel? Where regardless of if you purchased the games or not, you can no longer download them. Of course this is Sony and that was Nintendo but the possibility is still there. I dread the day when I may not be able to redownload my ps3 games.

@WanderingBullet Well yes and no, it depends on the type of plan you get. The entry plan which is what I used to do is $13 a month for 1 character per server. The standard plans are $15, $14, and $13 per month for 30, 90, and 180 days respectively, which allow for 8 characters per server but a casual player would have no need for that many characters so the entry plan of $13 a month is the best option in this case. The 60 day time card is $30 but it's for the standard sub and not the entry level which is already $15 anyway so you don't actually save with a time card.
