Re: First Screenshots of Dynasty Warriors' PS4 Strategy RPG March into View

If this is done right, it would definitely get my attention more than the main Warriors titles. I couldn't decide which title to get and I just see myself playing it for one hour and then putting it down. But this could be right up my alley (unless they give Samurai Warriors the same treatment). It's giving me Langrisser vibes, as well, with the one vs. multiple enemies battles.

Re: A Very Happy Fourth Birthday to Our Fave Handheld, PS Vita

Depending on the user, opinions go from the Vita having notable games in abundance to only having a few. Some folks are still making observations on why the Vita under-performed in sales. As it is my first-ever Playstation console, ports are not a problem because they would be all-new experiences for me. Seeing as how it is unrealistic for devs to put a lot of money into creating a "AAA" title for it, ports are a fine alternative to expanding the library. There's such a rich back catalogue of games that could be ported that there are so many possibilities.

Crazy suggestion that ignores business-savvy: Port each of the campaigns from Resident Evil 6 as separate, episodic releases to the PS Vita. Revelations 2 (Vita) may have had frame-rate issues but it made the top 10 in sales in Japan. Release Leon's in a physical retail version and include the option of downloading the others (Jakes, Chris', and Ada's) from the PSN a la Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD. (They already have some of the assets b/c RE 6 maps were included in Revelations 2 Raid Mode.)

Re: Surprise! Sony Isn't Working on First-Party Titles for PS Vita

ollietaro

It sounds like doom for the Vita was planned a long time ago. You can't tell me the Sony PlayStation crew don't know how to sell it. They consciously refused to. Instead of first party titles, how about ports of major games like The Last Of Us and Resident Evils 4, 5, & 6? For me, a port is a new game b/c Vita is my first and only Playstation console. I paid $55 for an import of Resident Evil Revelations 2 and I have no issues with the framerate thanks to my humble upbringing on Nintendo games.

Re: Review: One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (PS Vita)

I want to play at least one PS Vita Warriors game in my lifetime and this looks it. The developers are perfect for handling combat in fantastic, large-scale stages and that meshes perfectly well with One Piece crazy combat and unique and colourful worlds.

Re: PS Vita Prototype Looked a Lot Like the PSPgo

ollietaro

It's the developers who should be angry with Sony. Vita owners are buying less games on the PSN b/c they're huge and memory is like prime real estate. Plus, some publishers skip retail releases altogether which forces consumers to buy only from the PSN. I have a 16GB card and I bought FF X/X-2 retail however I was STILL required to download X-2 which is a whopping 3GB so already space is getting limited b/c usable memory is around 14GB...And I know we're all familiar with swapping out our game cards to play a different game but now I have to swap out memory cards, too, since I have the included 8 GB card with Borderlands 2 on it (which takes up more than 4GB...) I have not taken out my 3DS' 32gb SD card ONCE. I am now more open to the idea of buying PSP Classics in favour of Vita games since they take up less space but that's not the way things should be.

Re: Sony: We Aren't Making Vita Games Because of Consumer Expectations

I think I'll keep my Vita around just in case Monster Hunter Frontier gets a worldwide, multi-platform release. I originally bought it for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite but then almost all 2nd gen monsters were re-configured for MH4U's tighter controls and I'm so jealous of iOS owners being able to play MHFU with lock-on cam and HD graphics. I wouldn't pay a ridiculous price for an iPad just to pay MHFU, though. I'm stuck with Vita but I have THREE of the Monster Hunter knockoffs yet to play once my interest in MH4U subsides: Toukiden: KIwami, Soul Sacrifice Delta, and Freedom Wars.

Re: Sony: PlayStation Vita Is a Legacy Platform

@JLPick I don't understand how handheld consoles can be dead in the water. It appears the 3DS is doing well and the prime reason Nintendo stays in business. I don't know what the future holds (a Nintendo app store for smartphones?) but there's plenty to play in the present.

Re: Samurai Warriors 4-2 Invades Western PS4s and Vitas This October

ollietaro

So this is coming out, and Chronicles III is coming out, and Samurai Warriors 4 might go on sale soon so now it's going to be a difficult decision for a non-fan to choose one of these games to dip my toes into. I think I'm going to choose between SW4 and SWC3 as it would be silly to start with 4-II at this point. Then there's One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 to add more difficulty in choosing to the mix... (Maybe I should actually try to get through my copy of Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3DS)

Re: April 2015 NPD: PS4 Slumps to Shock Defeat

ollietaro

People are free to choose the top-seller, whichever it may be for whatever reasons they have and they have the freedom to do so just like I have the freedom to choose. I chose to buy both the 3DS and Vita so that I could have access to a more comprehensive library of games. I love the 3DS game library but there is a lack of jrpgs, visual novels, and quite frankly, sometimes I would like to play a game in HD like Samurai Warriors and that's why I bought the Vita, too. I've only always owned the Nintendo handheld before b/c it suited my lifestyle best and the games were always fun to play so I'm not even going to touch home consoles just yet.

Re: April 2015 NPD: PS4 Slumps to Shock Defeat

@Gamer83 So you're saying Nintendo paid Capcom the most money to get Monster Hunter as an exclusive onto its systems? One would think Sony had more than enough cash to keep the franchise to its systems. I would love to see Freedom Unite remastered for 3DS. It's just not the same when I play MHFU on my Vita after playing MH3U AND MH4U on 3DS. All I want is to see the remarkable landscapes in stereoscopic 3D, most of the monsters have been ported over to 4U.

Re: Ar nosurge Plus Is Getting a Limited Physical Edition After All, But Only In North America

ollietaro

@Vineleaf I'll be waiting to see the price of the digital version. First of all, they added a few cheap gifts with the physical release to bump the price up to $53.99. Second of all, I am waiting to see how many GBs the digital version would take up on my Vita memory card. You know, memory card space is prime real estate due to how much it costs and games can be large file sizes so there is not much room for many like there is on my 32 GB SD card in my 3DS. This would prevent me from looking into digital games that are not from my immediate favourite franchises but still look noteworthy b/c the space on my card is limited. However, I appreciate that digital games are cheaper in most respects. Also, if I buy a game physical, and buy DLC for it, the DLC will be saved to the Memory card, right? I already have two memory cards and if I get more it will be a nightmare trying to figure out which one has the DLC.

Re: Opinion: How Reviews Can Colour a Game's Reception

ollietaro

I'm one who can easily be swayed not to buy a game due to reading about minor negative traits in a game. When I read something like "bad menu placement/interface" it will deter me from buying the game even though I play games with challenging menu placement/interfaces and it usually doesn't bother me if the gameplay is good. Like for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, the NintendoLife reviewer commented on the tiny text being an issue however I played over 1000 hours of that game (and still playing) and the text never bothered me one bit. I think reviewers could handle gripes with somewhat more careful language. It's like how teachers need to be careful HOW they speak to their students. One reviewer's choice of words could cause more people to avoid good/great games that they might have enjoyed.

Re: Sony: PS Vita's Remarkably Resilient, and Won't Fade Away

ollietaro

To play blockbuster games, we will all have to stream them from a PS4. I believe you can do this outside as long as your PS4 is on at home and you can connect thru a strong wifi network, am I correct? I'm happy with the Japanese support and ports as I never got a chance to play them on PS3. There's not a lot of money nor time for games and I believe that the PS Vita already excels in delivering top-quality games. I don't need another reason to lose more money, such as buying blockbuster games. We can already acknowledge it's not as powerful as PS3 (b/c of lag and scale-backs in Borderlands 2) so why should devs care to scale back their PS4 releases for a system with a smaller user base? That takes too much effort for little reward, in their eyes.

Re: Here's a Quick Look At Destiny on Vita via PS4 Remote Play

ollietaro

So it's not possible to play Destiny on the Vita without a PS4? I assume that the PS4 hardware is the one running the game and it's just streamed wirelessly to the Vita but having a Destiny Vita game is a different story b/c the Vita is not powerful enough to run it by itself? As a sole Vita owner, I could care less about remote play but if you can stream without wifi a la Wii U I would consider buying a PS4 and just play PS4 games on my Vita at home instead of buying an expensive TV.

Re: A Brand New Entry in the Beloved Ys Series is Coming to PS4 and Vita in 2015

ollietaro

I bought Memories of Celceta used for $20 and I feel I got a great deal on this game. It's pretty fun and the world is beautiful. It's very Zelda-like with its adventuring and strategy required for boss battles but it also has the RPG twist of leveling up your characters and upgrading weapons/armor. You travel across the vast overworld and then you go to said dungeon and figure out the puzzle, find chests and keys, and defeat the mini-boss and boss. Sound familiar? Maybe, but imagine if Link had AI companions with different weapons (Spear, Fists, Maces) and that you can switch between them and you've got Ys: Memories of Celceta.
