Destiny DLC reveal, or small teaser of destiny 2.
The Sony bend game hasn't been in development for 4 years. They were working on a couple of vita projects after golden abyss shipped, and they were cancelled. There were reports of minor layoffs at bend probably due to the shift. I would reckon the earliest it's been in development has been 2013., maybe even early last year.
@Shellybird27 Like I said, that's news to me. Everywhere else I've gone, have said it's mediocre, okay, or solid. 65-75 is a mediocre game imo. 60 and below is flop. 76-85 is a good game, and 86 and above is can't miss. Of course all imo, but nowhere did I feel in my time with the was it a success. Generally unenjoyment, gameplay was alright, but story was garbage.
Dying Light was received well? Googles metacritic. Sees a "74". Lol, that's news to me. Looked and played pretty mediocre, but that's in my opinion. My main problem with the game was that it as drab, angsty, and not fun from a narrative standpoint. Tried to be deep, or somewhat intellectual when the concept itself is a little silly. Zombies. The color palette was kinda muted, browns and darker colors, which made me not enjoy dying light's world.
I'd rather play Dead Island 2 to be honest. It looks fun, light hearted, and hilarious. The type of game like sunset overdrive, which I enjoyed a lot. Dying light failed, because it took itself more serious than it should have.
I'm sure after being with Sony for so many years, Stig wanted a fresh start. It makes sense for him to join a third party, and be able to stretch his imagination. Cory Barlog was brought back, so I'm thinking he's the new lead director of the studio. It's very apparent that Santa Monica is going through a reorganization at this point, probably because of over budget and bloating within the studio. They're kinda like SCE Japan before Alan Becker arrived, they had so many projects going on and less organization. It got to the point that their big projects suffered in quality and couldn't progress through development.
Think of all the collaborations SSM does, in addition to their own AAA games. I'm not surprised at all Sony is bringing back Barlog to right the ship after GOW ascension, and many agree that GOW2 was the best entry in the franchise. So good luck to Stig at respawn!
Shuhei Yoshida has been bringing up Syphon Filter in his interviews for awhile. He's mentioned Logan from the franchise as well. He also described Sony Bend's PS4 game as "Panic", so the best guess is a reboot of the franchise.
Now for Bloodborne, I do think it is from Guerrilla Games. Think about it, Angie from GG said they started on a new IP about 3 years ago & Herman Hultz confirmed a new game was in Dev in 2011. This isn't from the killzone team since they expanded to having 2 internal teams.
So SSM's new IP probably grew a huge budget and the amount of money it would have took to complete the game could have negated their fiscal estimate for game sales. No matter if they completed the game, it likely would not go into the black for a long time. This game sounded very ambitious, which Destiny is also. Ambitious games often have large budgets and Sony decided to stop the bleeding and salvage what they could.
When a game that ambitious fails, with a huge studio like SSM, the only ending that can happen is cuts to the studio. They likely ran into a spot where they had to cut jobs in order to bring the studio's finances back in shape. The amount of money spent and wasted, meant they could not retain some of the higher and best employees. It's a shame, but like I said it seems like it just wasn't meant to be.
What this clearly means, is that Sony is casting a lot of chips into Destiny and they will likely spend $100 million on marketing it. They really believe in Destiny, and playstation will be the definitive home for the game.
Apparently, Bungie's destiny happened. They were caught off guard when Destiny was revealed and how similar their game was to it. So, they tried to salvage the IP by changing up some core principles, but that likely created a much bigger budget and the game started to go into development hell. They couldn't get back on track, and Sony made the hard decision to can it before the budget spirals out of control. They didn't want another last guardian or Agent.
I can understand why this happened. It was a conflict of interest, as Sony has a partnership for exclsuive/timed DLC for Destiny. You bet activision is going to push Destiny hard, it will not flop. Having SSM's game in the same genre, which has been rumored to be a Sci-Fi FPS too, is a conflict of interest. The game would have been seen as a B rate version of destiny if they revealed it later. This is no one in particular's fault, it was just a victim of circumstance. It just wasn't meant to be.....
I'm not sure how I feel about this new strategy at Sony. Keeping quiet all year, and blowing the doors open at E3. That strategy is just....outdated. In today's market, having consistency and a steady stream of content is so important. Why? Because it keeps consumers invested in your ecosystem, and legitimizes their investment. Consoles aren't just entertainment purchases, they are a mid-long term investment of entertainment, being media related or just video gaming.
The growth of the game industry, in the past 10 years is clashing with Sony's old school approach. Video game commercials, gaming events, investor and consumer announcements, etc have thrusted gaming into a higher form of entertainment known widely in popular culture. What I'm trying to say is that gaming events, and separate opportunities for exposure have opened up in the game industry, so the momentum of sales can be continued.
PAX, TGS, Eurogamer expo, Gamescom, VGA/X awards, GDC, E3 are examples of bigger commercial opportunities for companies to take advantage of a larger market. It makes no sense, why we are still huddled up , when people always state that they want gaming to become a bigger part of our culture. Sony continues to let opportunities to increase momentum slide, and yes I know PS4 is still selling out. The time of secluded and ultra secrecy has past. That went out the window with the continued development of the internet, emergence of "insiders", and once video game secured places on T.V commercials. We'll see what happens at E3 this year, but Phil Spencer at Microsoft has echoed exactly what I've said here. They are preparing for E3, Gamescom, PAX, because there are tons of opportunities to increase exposure of xbox One to potential consumers.
Sorry guys, but I've got to be objective and agree with @gamer83 this time. PS4 is doing well, but among the other facets of Sony's business and they are still closing studios and laying off workers. 50 people is not a small number, that is pretty much a AAA team in today's market. People need to wake up, and see that not everything is Roses in the Sony camp. They are a business and are dealing with significant financial issues. For the record @sanquine, you did attack him for stating his opinion. If you can't handle negative opinions without getting upset, then forums aren't for you.
That is the way of internet. It's been like that, and will always be like that. I can understand why he feels that way, because he's seeing a whole lot of exciting third party exclusives being announced at microsoft. Sunset Overdrive looks good, and Titanfall is probably going to be the biggest game of March. I'm in love with my PS4 too, but these fast sales of PS4 won't last forever, it's typical business logic.
@Gamer83 I don't think they need to worry.. Big rumor right now, as an insider on GAF leaked that Microsoft is planning on releasing Halo 2 anniversary on Xbox One in November, so that would leave sunset overdrive and quantum break as holiday games. Having the halo 5 beta in the H2 anniversary would push sales, but it won't necessarily be a huge system seller.
Uncharted 4 releasing in December or November as a holiday seller is a huge blow to microsoft. A re-release going up against a guaranteed seller from one of the most iconic developers in the gaming industry? Not only that, but Sony has strategic marketing with activision/bungie for destiny. Bundling destiny with PS4 and marketing it having early/exclusive dlc with sell PS4 consoles absolutely.
The Order 1886 is Ready At Dawn's game. People get it confused because santa monica's logo was shown at the reveal, which just means their external Dev team is assisting on the project.
My bets are on Sony Santa Monica, because his past experience just matches up with the leaks about SSM PS4 IP. Sci-Fi, open world, vehicular combat, etc.
@Sanquine lmao Vita defense force is out. Sure, you're getting vita games now, with sales looking worse than the Wii U. I give Sony till 2015 or 2016 before vita starts being phased out. Can't see them pouring more exclusives into a system that only 70k in a month. Just because you want, or think you deserve games doesn't render the business side of the game industry irrelevant. If they're not making a return on games like tearaway, there will be less and less of them.
Let's be honest, the Vita is a niche system in the West. Rarely anyone I talk to cares abut the Vita, in person or on forums. I Feel bad that MM's talents are being wasted on a system that sold only 70,000 units in November.
Killzone Mercenary, Soul Sacrifice, and now Tearaway have failed to catch on in the West. Meh.
It's clear that EA made these deals with Microsoft probably in 2012 or prior to their May Xbox one announcement. Strategic deals because they wanted to ride the "Xbox success" & steer clear in case things don't explode into success for Sony, they would be close enough to Microsoft to make good amounts of money. Flash forward to almost October, and on the eve of a new console, and EA may be thinking they jumped the gun a little quick. We are in for a great generation from Sony. Titanfall 2 will come to PS4 because of the type of guy Zampella is. He loves games, period. He'd love to see gamers everywhere enjoying and being invested in their new IP.
@Gamer83 I think we all know what happened. Microsoft believed that they pretty much had the competition wrapped up at the end of this gen. Their success with Xbox Live & the mainstream/commercial success they've garnered led them to think they could just "coast" into next gen. Without even acknowledging that Sony actually overcame so much adversity to even the score at the end, with both 360 & ps3 at around 80 million sold in their lifetimes. Microsoft believed that they probably could ut their next gen planes on hold for just a little longer because Sony couldn't possibly be further ahead then they were?
EA was prepared for the same route. They thought Microsoft was going to extend their success into the next gen. It's very hilarious because now the cat's out the bag. EA as been back tracking on their close relationship with MS because of all the negativity. They were surprised at the reception to PS4. The biggest bit of irony is that EA & MS probably though Sony was in a state of disarray and confusion at where they want to go.
@Cloud7794 lol its all good man. I just get slightly annoyed when I see all of the subs vs dub wars. Man, just enjoy what you like. But I don't think people should go out of their way to trash voice actors that spend hours on end recording.I do think knack sounds more natural in Japanese, because his character archetype is made by studio japan.
Anyway, my bad if I caused a ruckus. It's just a pet peeve when I hear this "I can't stand this awful dub, or voice impersonation". Man, chill lol
Here we go again with that subs vs Dubs BS. "Sounds more natural in the Japanese voices". What does that even mean? I have no idea what Knack you've been watching. And why would you make an entire article dedicated to trashing a voice actor's work? This article seems very pointless, a waste of space, and sounds pretentious. If you wanna hear Knack's Japanese voice so bad, then import the Japanese version . For goodness sake...
I really like the new Assault Helghast designs. Overall I'm pleased with the progress of the game, I just want them to speed up the action around the player not necessarily the player tho. The player movement is what makes killzone standout from the competition, the weight system.
If the game can keep a rock solid 30 fps then I will be more than happy. Since this is one of the first generation of PS4 games, I won't fault Guerilla Games for not going 60 fps immediately. I trust them to know what's best for their game. Oh and no one should worry about the multiplayer, its in good hands.
The creative director/lead designer from killzone 2's multiplayer is back with Guerilla Games and he's leading the development of the multiplayer. He slipped up and gave us some cool info about the multiplayer.....over 20 weapons & possible customization of our players.
So disappointing, that even ports don't get he proper attention. Seriously, we need to contact sony and ask for a patch to fix these problems. Seriously, we need a patch or I won't be buying the other collections that release.
